EXPERIENCE .
Research Assistant Florida International University (FIU) Miami, FL 2012 |Present
+ Conducted 5 Concurrent Research Projects, listed below, Funded by Governmental Agencies (FDOT*, IHRC*, FDEM*,
USDOT*)
+ Development of a New Roof-to-Wall FRP Connection for Retrofitting
Development of a Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composite roof-to-wall connection system for eliminating problems
associated with conventional roof-to-wall connections; & validating the efficacy of such system for retrofitting residential
buildings by conducting holistic component-level testing, as well as system-level testing under realistic dynamic wind loading
conditions in wind tunnel facility.
+ Wind Effect on Cladding, Roof, Walls & Structure of Elevated Buildings
Studies on determining the aerodynamic wind force coefficients & localized cladding loads for a variety of elevated buildings
through the testing a selection of elevated buildings modeled at reduced scale instrumented with pressure taps, tested in the WOW
wind tunnel facility at FIU for the full range of wind directions. From the test data, pressure coefficients would be derived suitable
for use in the design by code methods of the building’s main structural systems & outer envelope.
+ Extending Application of SDCL Steel Girder Bridges in Seismic Region
Experimental test on a 1/3 scaled bridge to evaluate the structural performance of the proposed SDCL for seismic regions.
+ Develop Guidance & Test Methods to Eliminate Thermal Cracking at Anchorages of Post-Tensioned Concrete Bridges
Studies on thermal/Shrinkage cracks of epoxy grout pourbacks at post-tensioning anchorages of concrete bridges
through the experimental tests on full-scale & small-scale specimens, & analytical study using finite element (FE) stress &
thermal analysis to investigate the cause of problem. The failure mechanisms were detected & specified, & provided new
technique & guidelines for eliminating thermal cracks. Link to the final report
+ Developed a Lightweight Hurricane-Resistant UHPC Roof System
Developed an innovative lightweight hurricane-resistant UHPC roof system, including works on all facets of development from
concept of study to structural & experimental design, specimens fabrication, instrumentation, experimental tests & analysis,
preparation of technical reports, & documenting project progress & publications. Under patent process.
Graduate Teaching Assistant Florida International University (FIU) Miami, FL 2016
+ Project Planning | Designed & evaluated assignments & exams for civil engineer students.
Data Analyst Intern State Farm Insurance Bloomington, IL 2016
+ Forensic & data analyses | Studied homeowner insurance losses resulting from Hurricane Irene | Conducted analysis of housing
performance after hurricanes | Quantified several losses characteristics such as: claim frequency; damage by building systems;
& root causes of damage | Prepared the final report.

+ The effective flange width of prestressed concrete bridges was evaluated using Finite Element analyses on 12 bridges designed in
accordance with AASHTO-LRFD provisions. Then, Finite Element results were compared with the current AASHTO-LRFD
specification. Finally, simplified equations were recommended for calculating the actual effective flange width.
