13. Resume Do’s/Don’ts
DO:
• Results-oriented based resume
• Use easy to read, but contemporary professional font (Cambria, Arial, Calibri, etc.)
• Limit to 4-5 work experience bullets
• Use only previous 10 years of work experience
• Tailor or format resume to each job description
DO NOT:
• Use personal pronouns
• Use excessive format elements (bullets, bold font, underline, italics)
• Use street address (123 Carmichael Ave)
• Use info which may cause a personal perception of you as a risk to hire,
irresponsible, etc.)
• Include references on resume
• Print resume on front and back

• Name and contact info:
– Name: Bold, no larger than 18 or 20pt font
– City, state, zip code (no street address)
– Phone and email address
• Profile abstract
– Academic degree
– Previous or current experience
– Targeted career position or area
– Relevant certifications and skills
– Professional affiliations

– GPA (if 3.0 or above), Honors

• Additional Experience (relevant work experience over 10 years)

Additional Resume Sections
• Licenses/Certificates: Include A&P, CPR, EMT, etc.
• Activities/Involvement: Include memberships in organizations, fraternities, sororities, and clubs with
dates of involvement
• Leadership: List any positions held in the clubs or organizations with dates of involvement
• Awards: Scholarships, Honors, Recognitions, Awards, and Commendations can be listed. Include info
such as locations and dates when relevant
• Volunteer: List volunteer experiences or other experiences relevant to the position
• Publications, Research, and Personal Projects can also be included
