Notes de l'éditeur
Let me begin this EVU mini-course on the many benefits of the Tesla Model S by apologizing for the unabashedly salesy feel of this discussion. I’m a Tesla Model S owner (that’s my car on the screen), and the tesla Model S is the best car I’ve ever owned — going away. So if I sound a enthusiastic about this car, it’s because the Model S is a car that deserves that level of enthusiasm.
If you want
>> spectacular looks
>> awesome performance
>> cool tech, and
>> a truly unique automobile
it’s well worth considering a Model S
>> The Model S combines the stylish feel of a premium automobile, with fit and finish to match,
>> with the elegant look of a vehicle that (of necessity) must move through the air with minimal resistance.
>> Yet it incorporates an aggressive stance that provides indication of a car that outperforms most, if not all, of its competitors.
The headline shown on your screen tells only part of the story. Sure, in its performance version, the Model S competes with supercars that cost 2 to 5 times more.
But for everyday driving,
>> the performance and handling of this car make driving a please
>> normally hyper critical automotive reviewers tend to gush about Model S performance!
>> in its new “ludicrous” driving model the P90D is one of the quickest cars in the world, doing 0-60 in 2.8 seconds!!
>> handling, braking and corning are superior making a 4,600 hundred pound sedan drive more like a sports car
>> Because tesla Motors is dedicated to the development of EVs, they must be innovators, not followers. They are, to be charitable, years ahead of their premium competitors in the EV space.
>> Tesla Motors has battery tech and production capabilities that are #1 in the world. In fact, the “gigafactory, now being completed in nevada, will become the largest battery production facility on the planet
>>The Model S was designed from the ground up to be an EV. That means there were no constraints or any effort to repurpose existing ICE vehicle designs, components, or business models.
All of this along with
>> a zero emissions vehicle, with all of the environmental benefits that name implies
>> The true convenience of home charging, allowing you to leave the house every morning with your battery gauge on “full”
>> great range that gives you well over 220 miles without any worry
>> free long distance travel using a supercharger network that is growing by the month, and
>> a unique ownership experience in which you truly are part of an owners community
One of the under appreciated characteristics of the model S is its interior volume.
The car’s carrying capacity is huge, with over 58 cubic feet of storage space.
>> That’s a premium sedan that can act like an SUV
>> It has all of the storage benefits of a hatchback with a fold down seat, for example, you can easily carry
>> four sets of golf clubs,
>> or six pieces of luggage
>> in almost 6 ft of linear space
>> Tesla Motors is not your father’s car company. Its business models is different; its sales approach is different, and its maintenance approach strays from the “dealership model”
>> repair/service is not a profit center. It uses regional service centers, rather than dealerships.
>> the overall simplicity of EVs means very little repair/service—no transmission, no oil changes, no belts
>> in many cases Tesla will pick-up and delivery your vehicle for any maintenance that is required
>> the company prides itself on customer care, and my personal experience bears that out.
The model s is on the leading edge of a transition to a software-based vehicle.
>> In fact, Some have called the car “a computer on four wheels”
>> that means that OTA software updates enhance not only ergonomic features of the car, but also the physical performance of the vehicle
For example, it has been possible to enhance voice input or improve acceleration,
and future updates will enable automatic lane change and self steering,
leading to full ‘autopilot’ (the ability of the car to drive 90% of a journey with
no driver input).
I think it’s fair to say that the Model S has been a river for
>> One of the industries most enthusiastic owner bases
>> Regional owners’ groups are active across North America and Europe
>> Web Forums at Tesla Motors and Tesla Motors Club, along with Facebook pages and other social media outlets form a unique community
>> and that means, if you have a question, crowd sourced answers are almost immediately available
