2. U rated Films
• U- This is a film made suitable for everyone over the age of 4 years
old. This type of film will strive to portray equality for all races and
Genders. Very little amounts of violence may be used but their will be
quick resolutions, with no bloody images being solved. Kissing scenes
may take place, however there will be no focus on sexual behavior or
innuendos. They usually have no references to banned drugs. The
language will be non-explicit and no swear words will be used. An
example of a U rated movie is finding Nemo.
3. PG films.
•
PG is the medium between U rated films and 12’s. It stands for parental
guidance. PG films can be aimed at adults, just less explicit. Alcohol use of
smoking will not be glorified. PG’s will emphasise the harmful side of drugs.
References towards sex may be allowed if the kid doesn’t understand the
innuendo or reference. Although there might be blood, the story behind the
injury wont’t be explained or in great detail. Violence is more acceptable in
fantasy PG’s like lord of the rings.
4. 12 A movies
• 12 - This film has a slightly higher age
regulation than PG or U rated movies.
There may be a very slight use of explicit
language, but it won’t be littered across
the whole duration of the movie. A film of
this certificate may have mild nudity and
very brief or discreet sexual activities.
There will be some sort of violence, but
none that could cause stress to the
viewer. Weapons shouldn’t be used that
people of the age of 12 could gain access
to.
5. 15 Films
•
Films of a 15 rating have slightly more
leeway than films of a 12 certificate. It is
likely a 15 movie will have strong violence,
for example punching and drawing blood.
However they might not glorify weapons
that teenagers can gain easy access to.
There may be racist and discriminatory
language, but none too extreme. There
may be references towards sex or
descriptions of sexual violence like rape.
Lastly, drugs easily accessible to teenagers
may not be encouraged or necessarily
shown. An example of a film with a 15
certificate is the Inbetweeners movie.
6. 18 rated Films.
• 18 rated movies are more extreme than 15
certificates in a number of area. There is very
strong violence like stabbings and brutal
beatings, strong and offensive language is more
frequent with constant discriminatory behaviour
throughout. There may be scenes of sexual
violence like rape and in rare circumstances
where sex might take place. strong blood and
gore will be portrayed throughout. An example
of a film that is an 18 is pulp fiction, which
contains a number of these conventions.
7. Our films certificate
Our film contains many scenes of a violent nature and some
gruesome images and therefore it will be a 15. These images
will be unsuitable for anyone under the age of 15 as they may
be disturbing and inappropriate. 12A only account for
‘moderate violence’ and due to the mass murdering and brutal
nature of this this will not be an appropriate certificate for our
film. There is also some scenes of bad influencing behaviour
and this is inappropriate for people under the age of 15 as they
may be influenced or given ideas due to their more vulnerable
and immature nature. We have not given it an 18 because it
does not have any explicit sexual scenes, little swearing and
no drug use. We feel that an 18 would only reduced our target
market without us benefiting from the more explicit scenes we
would be able to include as we don’t need to include these
scenes.
