2. More Americans are going under the knife. In 2016, the American Society of
Plastic Surgery revealed in a press release that there were 17.1 million surgical
and minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures performed.
Cosmetic surgeries went up by 4% while minimally-invasive procedures
increased by 3%.
More Money on Aesthetic Surgery for the First Time
Statistics suggest that Americans are spending more money on plastic surgery
than ever before.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery revealed that, for the first
time in history, Americans are spending more than $15 billion dollars on
surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures. This accounts for an 11%
increase in 2016 alone.
3. Using Fat to Enhance Other Parts of the Body
People used to get liposuction to remove excess fat out of their bodies. But an
emerging trend suggests that people are harvesting their own fat to enhance
other areas of their bodies. The President of the American Society of Plastic
Surgeons, Debra Johnson, MD shares that this is an option for some people
because the results of the material injected lasts longer than fillers.
The press release also revealed that there was a 13% increase in minimally
invasive cosmetic fat injections; a 26% increase in buttock augmentation using
fat grafting; and a 72% increase in breast augmentation through fat grafting.
Demand for skin tightening procedures is also on the rise, with cosmetic
physicians using a technology that freezes fat.

Other trends expected to hit clinics this year include the emergence of FTM
(Female to Male) and MTF (Male to Female) procedures, as well as fillers for
specific areas of the face, Brazilian butt lifts, and dimplectomy, which is a
scarless procedure that adds dimples. Procedures that smoothen rather plump
up will also gain traction.
Clients of medical spas and cosmetic surgeons can expect new trends in plastic
surgery, as well as more innovative procedures to defy age and enhance one’s
look.
