  1. 1. COMMITTEE REPORT ON THE RE-OPENING OF PLACES OF WORSHIP IN EKITI STATE PREPARATION FOR OPENING 1) Fumigation and sanitization of worship places, including chairs, pews, windows, the entire house of worship, and its environment. 2) Provision of running water with soap, preferably pedal-operated tap, and provision of 70% alcohol-based hand sanitizers. 3) Use of face mask by all 4) Use of infrared thermometers for checking worshippers' temperature at the entrance. 5) Sensitization of worshippers about COVID-19 prevention measures. RESOLUTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS The committee agreed and recommended the following: Place of worship identified are: • Churches • Mosques • Synagogues 1. All places of worship to be fumigated or sanitized by the authorities of places of worship. 2. Provision of liquid soap and running water preferably pedal-operated tap at the entrance of the place of worship. Page of1 3
  2. 2. 3. All worshippers must wash their hands at the designated washing stands before entering into a place of worship. 4. Social distancing should be observed while performing ablution. 5. All worshippers MUST use their face masks before entering the places of worship. 6. Worship should be conducted within one hour thus: • Muslims to conduct Jumat Services on Fridays from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm; • Christians to worship on Sundays between 10:00 am and 12:00noon but not more than one hour. • Saturday worships between 10:00am-11:00am. • In churches and mosques where there is more than one auditorium, services can conduct si- multaneously. 7. A distance of at least 2meters (6fts) should be kept among worshippers in sitting arrange- ments. 8. Religious leaders to use tape markings on the floor marking 2meters (6fts) apart. 9. Personal Kettles and mats to be used in Mosques. 10. Number of worshippers allowed in a place of worship to be determined strictly by the ob- servance of 2 meters (6fts) distancing on the available worship space. 11. Entrance and Exits to places of worship to be clearly demarcated and separated. 12. Children under 12 and adults over 65years are prohibited from worship at this time because of their vulnerability. 13. Presiding priests over 65 years are exempted from the rule 14 above. 14. Presiding priests at places of worship should make announcements that vulnerable individ- uals, the young, the old, and the sick individuals are exempted. Examples of sick individuals are people with hypertension, Diabetes, Asthma, Tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS. 15. At least, one health worker should be stationed in a place of worship during service for quick response to emergencies. Page of2 3

All places of worship are to ensure adequate cross ventilation, all windows, and doors in the place of worship should be widely opened at least thirty (30) minutes before the start of service. The use of air conditioners is prohibited at this time. 17. Wedding and Burial ceremonies should be done with not more than 20 people and 2 meters (6ft) social distancing should be observed. 18. For Offerings, a container/basket should be placed at a location where worshippers would drop their offerings one after the other maintaining social distancing. 19. Communion to be placed on the believer's hand and not mouth. 20. General absolution is recommended for penitence. 21. Continuous enlightenment and sensitization on prevention of COVID-19 pandemic should be embarked upon by the Government and the religious leaders amongst the congregants. 22. There should be no commercial activities in and around the place of worship. 23. Presiding Priests should designate at least two officials to monitor compliance at the place of worship. All the aforementioned regulations will be re-assessed as needed. The preparedness of places of worship for re-opening should be verified before the re-opening date Place of worship is hereby recommended to be re-opened effective from Friday 17th July 2020 as follows: • Mosques - Friday, 17th July 2020 • Synagogues - Saturday, 18th July 2020 • Churches - Sunday, 19th July 2020.
