– Action 1A: EM Master Courses (EMMC)

– high-quality curricula
– for excellent students / doctoral candidates!!!

Consortium:
– “Europe”: EU27 and EEA (FL, IS, NO)
– Consortium of HEI from at least 3 different “European” countries
– May also include HEI from Third-Countries (3C) and companies
Fellowship holders’ Categories:
– Category A: 3C-doctoral candidates less than 12 months over the
last 5 years in “Europe” (exception for former EMMC students)
– Category B: other than Category A

EMJD (I):
– Curriculum has to be integrated in all aspects
– Lasting max. 4 years, but EMJD fellowships only for 3 years!
– Fully developed at the time of application (30 April 2012 – 12:00
CET) and ready for 5 consecutive editions as from 2013/14
– Fully recognised EMJD by first doctoral candidates’ enrolment
(around June 2013)
– Fully recognised double, multiple or joint degree
– At least 2 European languages

EMJD (II):
– Scholarships for top-class doctoral candidates (Cat. A + B)
– Obligatory study period in at least 2 “European” countries:
• At least 6 months (cumulative or consecutive)
• For Cat. B: 2 ”European” countries different from country obtained
the last HEI degree
– If mobility to 3C-HEI foreseen:
• At least two thirds at “European” HEI
• For Cat. A: max. 1 semester / 6 months (cumulative or consecutive),
3C has to be different from the country of origin
• For Cat. B: max. 1 year (cumulative or consecutive)
– Internships and placements possible

EMJD (III):
– Employment contacts should be offered, if not possible social
security coverage is necessary
– Support candidates in obtaining visas, residence permits,
housing, perhaps schools for their children
– Later: offer tutoring / buddy system
– Doctoral candidate agreements on rights and obligations
– Different levels of management boards

Flat rate for management costs: € 50.000 / edition
Cat. A fellowship Cat. B fellowship
Travel, installation, visa € 7.500 € 3.000 (only if 3C-HEI visit is
related and other costs foreseen)
Participation costs € 300 / month (for non-laboratory based EMJD)
€ 600 / month (for laboratory based EMJD)
Living allowance € 1.400 / month (for a stipend)
€ 2.800 / month (for an employment contract)
Total € 61.200 - € 129.900

Example for the calculation of a three years EMJD for 5 editions:
Flat rate for management costs: € 50.000 x 5 editions = € 250.000 for consortium
Cat. A fellowship Cat. B fellowship
(6 per edition) (2 only EU / 2 with 3C-visit per edition)
Travel, installation, visa… € 7.500 € 3.000 (only if 3C-HEI visit)
(for doctoral candidates) € 7.500x6x5 = € 225.000 € 3.000x2x5 = € 30.000
Participation costs € 600 / month (for laboratory based EMJD)
(for consortium) € 600x36x10x5= € 1.080.000
Living allowance € 2.800 / month (for an employment contract)
(for doctoral candidates) € 2.800x36x10x5 = € 5.040.000
Total € 6.625.000

– Academic and research quality 25%
objectives, excellence, innovation, competitiveness
– Partnership experience and composition 25%
adequacy of the partnership, scientific excellence and their education,
research and innovation capacities
– European integration and functioning of the programme 20%
efficiency and effectiveness of implementation
– Provisions for EMJD candidates and fellowship holders 15%
promotion and marketing strategy, recruitment conditions, support
– Management and quality assurance 15%
overall organisational arrangements and cooperation mechanisms,
evaluation and sustainability plan
