From looking at the difference between my two magazines, it is clear to see that I have improved. I think this
because over time I finally understood about everything being set out in layers in Photoshop, therefore I could
layout everything I wanted, in a way to make my magazine look professional.
Also over time I understood more about the forms and conventions of a music magazine, so when it came to
making the cover and contents page for my music magazine, I knew what was to be expected. Which for me I had
a checklist to make sure I had included the majority of the forms and conventions.
For both my cover and contents page, I had better photographs the second time round. I think this because the
quality of them is much better, they can be seen more clearly. Also they follow the theme I have. Whilst when I
took the photos for the student magazine, they were taken from my iPhone camera and I think it was all slightly
rushed. I also knew what photos I wanted for the music magazine, I think it was easier for me to decide who I
wanted to be on the front and how I wanted them.
I had a better theme for my music magazine as I had a better idea of who I wanted to aim the magazine at. As I
had done more research I found out more about the target audience, which helped a lot. With the student
magazine I think I had a lack of understanding about who my target audience were.
I understand more about how important it is for certain parts of a magazine to stand out to catch peoples eye so
they will buy it. I also now know that it has to be exciting in a sense, as no one wants to buy a boring magazine
which sticks to two very bland colours.
Having the correct cover lines was also important, as they play a big factor as to who will buy your magazine. So
for my music magazine I decided to have very well known artists which many people like, this can give more of a
chance to make the magazine more successful. As customers will buy the magazine so they can see their
favourite artists inside.
