Wood's Location
For the forest location, this being the main location we
decided to use, we needed the location to big, and while also
having trees to also have pathway's that we could use later
on in the music video. This is shown in the photos on the
slide, which show the pathways as well as the woods.
We needed somewhere that fit this type of description as the
plot is that the main character will be making his way from
the woods as he travels back into civilisation. The trees and
the emptiness of the location will represent isolation that the
character is feeling, after breaking up with his girlfriend
(which will be shown through flashbacks).
The pathways will be a guide as to where he needs to go next,
and as a way for the audience to know when the character
will be starting to come back to the 'real world' as he will
begin to walk/run on a pathway instead of going through the
woods.
Moreover, as well as using this location for the main
sequence we want to shoot, we will be using it for 'flashback'
scenes. By this I mean that so the locations have significance
to the plot, as there will be flashbacks of a 'break-up' scene.
Canal location
For this location we wanted to pick a setting that was
able to transition and blend both this canal and the
wooded area together.
This is as it fits with the story and the narrative of the
music video our group wants to create. The concept of the
video is that the main character will be slowing making
his way into back into civilisation and the canal, being
surrounded by trees, will act as a secondary location that
actually fits so it doesn’t look as if e have changed the
setting. The canal also still creates a sense of isolation
with is then developed further when the character moves
to a third location, the road/pathway.
As well as using this location as a transitioning point in
the video, as a way to progress from one setting to
another, it will also be used for flashback scenes. This is
as in the plot of the story there will be flashbacks to show
when the main character and our secondary character
break up. This will also link the locations as it will go
from the forest to the canal where the event happened so
it is relevant to the overall story.
Lecture theater
For the lecture theater, we wanted to use this location for two
sections of the music video. This would include the performance
based part of the video and for a 'bedroom scene' at the end. Firstly
for the performance, we wanted to use a wide open space where we
would be able to control the lights, equipment and the time we had
to use the locations, this being made easier by the fact that we can
book times to use the space when needed. We also needed a room
that was able to become pitch black, so the lights and atmospheric
effect we wanted to create was easier to mimic, without ambient
light coming into the room and spoiling this effect. The room is also
very large, with the addition of the white walls being able to be
removed and crossing over into the dance studio.
For the 'bedroom scene' we decided to also use the lecture theater
again because of the space and light. This is because for this
location there will be wide and high angle shots, which we thought
would be to difficult and ineffective to try and film in someone's own
room at home. Additionally, we again need the room to be able to
become pitch black, as we wanted the character to feel isolated, as
well as to use light more effectively (as if we are anting the scene
with the use of lights).
Lastly, we also picked this location as we wanted to place the
instruments around a bed area, to symbolize that the main
character has envisioned himself as the whole band. The fact that
we needed this hall for the performance proves that where wouldn’t
be enough space anywhere else like this, as well as with the
addition of the instruments, hence why we have chosen to utilize
the space again.
