Academic History
At GCSE I studied Maths, English, Combined science trilogy, iMedia where I built up a
skill in photoshop, illustrator and web comic websites such as Pixton. I also studied
Media Studies which helped me use and build my skills in photoshop, powerdirector,
illustrator and written essays. Finally I also studied Religious Studies where I built up a
skill in understanding different communities and basic social skills. For all of these I
got grade 4’s and above alongside a grade 7 in Media Studies.
I really enjoyed Media studies and iMedia as a result of this so I wanted to go into a
college course with a similar idea and I then chose the creative media course which
was a mic between the two.
Current Study
I then went onto doing a 2 year, vocational Creative Media course at college where I
built up skills in different parts of the media industry. These included filming on both
handheld and static cameras, editing on video software such as premiere pro, audio
recording and editing using adobe audition, foley audio creating, print production by
creating magazines and posters, photography and animation on photoshop which also
included animation design.
From both my GCSE and College years I decided that I want to stay in the media
industry and I am very much leaning towards radio as it is something I really enjoyed
learning about and working towards in both high school and college as well as outside
of these when doing my work experience ay YorkMix Radio.
The Future
In the future I am going to be applying to courses in the
radio industry. Ones I have looked at so far and I am
considering include broadcast journalism, television and
radio productions courses and media and
communications. These are all courses which will allow
me to create contacts and meet people not only wanting
to go in the same direction as me but also meet people in
the industry with the university contacts.
My goal is to work in radio, hosting or producing.
University will help me gain and build the skills I need to
do this. It will also help me gain contacts and experience
with big companies in the media industry.
Outside College
Outside of college I was doing scouting and I was a young leader at beavers, alongside doing explorers. I
then had to stop shortly after starting college due to timing issues getting back from work. But then I
went onto looking for a volunteering job which I was then doing voluntary, charity works for British
Heart Foundation and Selby Hands of Hope. I did these from approximately 6 months. I also started
doing work experience at York Mix Radio for 4 months where I was building on skills in finance, scrip
writing, recording and editing using adobe audition. Some of the things I had created during tis time
was played out on the radio. Whilst being at YorkMix I also did a live broadcast as a guest for a part of
the show that they call .the quizzical’. I also used my charity shop experience with YorkMix as we did
fundraising events in York to raise money for Yorkshire’s air ambulance.
After finishing at both YorkMix and both charity shops, I decided to look for a job which pays to start
saving for university and driving etc. from there I started working at Selby’s Wetherspoons which is
where I am currently. This helps me to work on my skills for customer service and communication which
is heavily needed when working in the radio industry.
After not being able to carry on at beavers, I recently started back into scouting as a young leader for
cubs where I am doing doing young leaders training. This is helping e build leadership skills again as well
as communication and childcare.
to practise my editing skills outside of college I do ‘fan edits’ using photoshop and phone app
alternatives alongside video editing apps. I like to share these on Instagram pages I have set up.
This makes me a better candidate for university as I have a lot of experience between college, high
school and my outside of college hobbies and work. In my spare time I also like to read. This allows me
to expand my vocabulary and helps me with my writing which makes me a better candidate too as I am
constantly expanding my vocabulary.
Conclusion
I want to go to university and eventually, after university, I would like to make it into
the radio industry and this if the first step I want to take for this to have more training,
skill building and gain new skills withing the media industry. Specifically, radio. I am a
good candidate because I am hard working, dedicated and take a great interest in the
subject I am wanting to study. I have already got some experience using some
software too which means I would need a little less support in some areas.
Introduction
I am applying for a subjects withing the radio and broadcast industry. This includes
television and radio production as well as broadcast journalism. I am doing this as this
will be the course I need to do to get to where I want to be, get the right experience
and contacts too. I want to go to university to meet new people with the same
interests as me, make contact and have experience with people working in the
industry and gain contacts also for a career in my pathway.
Year 1 Review
Which projects have you enjoyed most
this year & why?
This year, I have enjoyed the audio productions and the print productions. I really liked
learning new things on both audition and photoshop and these are the projects I was
most happy about from the outcome.
Which projects have you least enjoyed
[& why]?
The topic/project I liked the least was the filming and video editing as I don’t really like
the software as much and I’m not creative enough for filming. I didn’t do as well as I
had wanted on that project.
What is you biggest success
I think my biggest success was my print based products that I created when I was
doing my adventure project. I was really happy with the way they all turned out. This
also allowed me to practice more editing on photoshop which I really enjoyed doing .
What has been your biggest mistake in
coursework
The biggest mistake in my coursework is probably the sizing of the game animation as I
made the canvas the wrong side and I was unable to add much detail compared to
what I had in mind. This was a problem I had realised too late on and was
unchangeable without restarting and I would not have had time to restart.
Which skills do you think you have
develop most?
I think the skills I have developed most in are photoshop and audition skills as I used
these the most out of everything and it was software I had had some experience with
before so I found it easier to progress with these skills.
What area are aiming to specialise in
during Year 2?
I am wanting to study audio for my second year to prepare myself for university and
gain more experience using audition and perhaps learn how to use some other audio
software. It will also give me more scripting experience and help me gain more
experience which will be helpful for working in the radio industry in the future.

  • 13. Academic History At GCSE I studied Maths, English, Combined science trilogy, iMedia where I built up a skill in photoshop, illustrator and web comic websites such as Pixton. I also studied Media Studies which helped me use and build my skills in photoshop, powerdirector, illustrator and written essays. Finally I also studied Religious Studies where I built up a skill in understanding different communities and basic social skills. For all of these I got grade 4’s and above alongside a grade 7 in Media Studies. I really enjoyed Media studies and iMedia as a result of this so I wanted to go into a college course with a similar idea and I then chose the creative media course which was a mic between the two.
  • 14. Current Study I then went onto doing a 2 year, vocational Creative Media course at college where I built up skills in different parts of the media industry. These included filming on both handheld and static cameras, editing on video software such as premiere pro, audio recording and editing using adobe audition, foley audio creating, print production by creating magazines and posters, photography and animation on photoshop which also included animation design. From both my GCSE and College years I decided that I want to stay in the media industry and I am very much leaning towards radio as it is something I really enjoyed learning about and working towards in both high school and college as well as outside of these when doing my work experience ay YorkMix Radio.
  • 15. The Future In the future I am going to be applying to courses in the radio industry. Ones I have looked at so far and I am considering include broadcast journalism, television and radio productions courses and media and communications. These are all courses which will allow me to create contacts and meet people not only wanting to go in the same direction as me but also meet people in the industry with the university contacts. My goal is to work in radio, hosting or producing. University will help me gain and build the skills I need to do this. It will also help me gain contacts and experience with big companies in the media industry.
  • 16. Outside College Outside of college I was doing scouting and I was a young leader at beavers, alongside doing explorers. I then had to stop shortly after starting college due to timing issues getting back from work. But then I went onto looking for a volunteering job which I was then doing voluntary, charity works for British Heart Foundation and Selby Hands of Hope. I did these from approximately 6 months. I also started doing work experience at York Mix Radio for 4 months where I was building on skills in finance, scrip writing, recording and editing using adobe audition. Some of the things I had created during tis time was played out on the radio. Whilst being at YorkMix I also did a live broadcast as a guest for a part of the show that they call .the quizzical’. I also used my charity shop experience with YorkMix as we did fundraising events in York to raise money for Yorkshire’s air ambulance. After finishing at both YorkMix and both charity shops, I decided to look for a job which pays to start saving for university and driving etc. from there I started working at Selby’s Wetherspoons which is where I am currently. This helps me to work on my skills for customer service and communication which is heavily needed when working in the radio industry. After not being able to carry on at beavers, I recently started back into scouting as a young leader for cubs where I am doing doing young leaders training. This is helping e build leadership skills again as well as communication and childcare. to practise my editing skills outside of college I do ‘fan edits’ using photoshop and phone app alternatives alongside video editing apps. I like to share these on Instagram pages I have set up. This makes me a better candidate for university as I have a lot of experience between college, high school and my outside of college hobbies and work. In my spare time I also like to read. This allows me to expand my vocabulary and helps me with my writing which makes me a better candidate too as I am constantly expanding my vocabulary.
  • 17. Conclusion I want to go to university and eventually, after university, I would like to make it into the radio industry and this if the first step I want to take for this to have more training, skill building and gain new skills withing the media industry. Specifically, radio. I am a good candidate because I am hard working, dedicated and take a great interest in the subject I am wanting to study. I have already got some experience using some software too which means I would need a little less support in some areas.
  • 18. Introduction I am applying for a subjects withing the radio and broadcast industry. This includes television and radio production as well as broadcast journalism. I am doing this as this will be the course I need to do to get to where I want to be, get the right experience and contacts too. I want to go to university to meet new people with the same interests as me, make contact and have experience with people working in the industry and gain contacts also for a career in my pathway.
  • 20. Which projects have you enjoyed most this year & why? This year, I have enjoyed the audio productions and the print productions. I really liked learning new things on both audition and photoshop and these are the projects I was most happy about from the outcome.
  • 21. Which projects have you least enjoyed [& why]? The topic/project I liked the least was the filming and video editing as I don’t really like the software as much and I’m not creative enough for filming. I didn’t do as well as I had wanted on that project.
  • 22. What is you biggest success I think my biggest success was my print based products that I created when I was doing my adventure project. I was really happy with the way they all turned out. This also allowed me to practice more editing on photoshop which I really enjoyed doing .
  • 23. What has been your biggest mistake in coursework The biggest mistake in my coursework is probably the sizing of the game animation as I made the canvas the wrong side and I was unable to add much detail compared to what I had in mind. This was a problem I had realised too late on and was unchangeable without restarting and I would not have had time to restart.
  • 24. Which skills do you think you have develop most? I think the skills I have developed most in are photoshop and audition skills as I used these the most out of everything and it was software I had had some experience with before so I found it easier to progress with these skills.
  • 25. What area are aiming to specialise in during Year 2? I am wanting to study audio for my second year to prepare myself for university and gain more experience using audition and perhaps learn how to use some other audio software. It will also give me more scripting experience and help me gain more experience which will be helpful for working in the radio industry in the future.
