2. Steps to Prevent Overheating
Step 1:
● Carry extra coolant in your trunk, your engine overheating
can be caused by various factors, one of which is low
levels of coolant.
● Be prepared by storing some in your trunk for emergency
situations.
● If you are having issues but don't have coolant, water can
work while you try to make it to a gas station.
3. Step 2:
Stop your car as soon as possible.
The best thing to do is pull over and
turn off your car as soon as you
can. This will help avoid any
damage to your vehicle.
Step 3:
● Release some of the heat.
● If you're in heavy traffic and have trouble pulling over right away, turn
off your air conditioner to relieve some of the pressure on your
engine.
● When you have pulled over and turned off your vehicle, pop the hood
to let some of the heat escape.
4. Step 4:
● Let things cool down, leave your hood open but don't touch anything yet.
● Your engine will be extremely hot and can cause burns.
● Wait for things to cool before opening the radiator cap and topping off
your coolant.
Step 5:
Get your car checked. Your overheating troubles may have been caused by low
levels of coolant, but it is best to make sure. You might have other issues like cracks
and leaks in your hoses.
