Project and Teach.
The material in these lessons may be above the reading
and comprehension levels of most Kindergarten students
and, thus, is more suitable for First and Second Grades.

For Kindergarten students and for those with limited
reading skills or who speak another language, we have
designed a series of projectable lessons that are more age
appropriate.

The lessons for all grades, K-2, can be projected in a
classroom or other venue while the teacher reads the text.

                  Adventure #1: The Amazing Humanoid
                       Transformer-like Machine. 3
Would you like to have me, CPU-PO,
read the words to you?
If you have chosen an avatar to represent
you in this adventure, you may choose to
have him or her read the text (words) to
you.

You may need help from your teacher or
Mom and Dad to make it work.

When you walk, you take one step at a time.

Usually, the steps are forward.

They allow you to move from one area to
another.

Earning Certificates and Kung Fu
Komputing Belts.
To help reward you for your efforts to learn about
computers, we have provided your teacher with
two fun things:
1. Certificates that you can mount on your wall at
home.
2. Points that you can earn as you work to become
a black belt Kung Fu Komputing champion.

Or, not.
Before you can earn certificates and belts, you
MUST be the best possible student possible.

You cannot cheat, disturb your classmates, or
misuse your computer.

You must obey ALL of the rules OR we have
instructed your teacher to cancel all rewards
programs. Can you do this?

             Adventure #1: The Amazing Humanoid
                  Transformer-like Machine. 36
Answer These Questions:
We titled this first adventure the amazing
humanoid transformer like machine. Why?

Humanoid means human-like. Why is it like
a human? Why might we compare a
computer to a human?

              Adventure #1: The Amazing Humanoid
                   Transformer-like Machine. 37
Answer This Question:
Why a transformer? Well, it not really a
transformer. The transformers you might be
familiar with change shapes, like robots that
transform to cars or buildings.

Why did we make this analogy?

              Adventure #1: The Amazing Humanoid
                   Transformer-like Machine. 38
Wait for it!

In the next part of this first adventure, we
are going to ask this question: How is a
computer used?

After you complete the lesson, we will
once again ask you “why did we compare
a computer to a transformer?”

My Quest: Define Computer.
As I traveled across cyber land, I had a
goal: learn what a computer is and how it is
used.

So, as I met new people, I asked them two
questions: 1. What is a computer? And, 2)
How is a computer used at home or in
school?
Here is what I learned:

My first human was a teenager named Andy

I asked him what a computer was. He said:
“It’s a game machine and that’s all I care
about.”

students could use to find information and
enhance their learning.

Doctor Kneau.

For him a computer was also a tool, but a
very powerful one that enabled him to
assemble much data and make many
calculations.

A computer is ALL that-and more!
Each of these uses is correct.

A computer is a tool for education, work, and
communication (that is, talking to others).

It can also be used to play games.

So, what is a computer and how is
it used?
A computer is one of the most powerful
tools for work, school, communication, and
fun ever devised.

And, they can be found in one form or
another in many of the things we use each
day.

How to Proceed, All Projects.
Our goals for these projects are to:
  – Practice new computer skills.
  – Learn how to integrate these skills into other
    areas you are studying.
  – Introduce you to new STEM (Science,
    Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects
by having you participate in projects relating
to or utilizing (using) one or more of these
    fields.

Project 12 How are computers NOT
like people or animals?
We made several analogies about the ways a computer
may be like a person or even an animal.
Are they really the same? Do computers have arms legs
wings or fins that they can use to move around?

Computers have been designed to duplicate some human
actions. But, are they really the same? In your STEM
Projects folder, you will find a fun project that you can use
to compare computers and animals and perhaps make a
animal-like robot.
