enricaDESIGN PORTFOILO
This is a portfolio consists of a selection of my work since 2012. It includes
interiors as well as product design. Since I have always been interested in
anything style related, I made the decision to persue a degree in Interior de-
sign to further my knowledge and creativty in the area of study at the Malta
Institute of Art and Design.
I often keep myself updated with the latest trends in fashion and interiors by
reading blogs, magazines and books. Three women who have inspired me
are, Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and Olivia Palermo. All women come
from different decades but are always so timeless and elegant.
Besides design, I also practice music and have achevied a grade 5 in both
Singing and Musical Theory and Rock and Pop exams, awarded by the Trin-
ity Guildhall College.

D E S I G NFor one of the Initial assignments, we collaborated with a
recognised local design company, Camilleri Paris Mode, to
design a chair using their fabrics. My design was ultimately
chosen to be produced as a life sized seat. This was a ben-
eficial experience since I was able to visit their factory while
the chair was being manufactured.
The idea was to have a seat suitable for indoors and out-
doors, depending on the customizable fabrics being used. It
has a raffia back rest, and an upholstered seat were one can
chose the fabrics according to colour, texture and weather.
While collobaroting with another local company, Domestica, we were given an assignment using sustainable guidelines.
My initial idea was to create a lighting structure using sawdust from a wood workshop to create a solid shade, the use
recycled corrugated cardboard to create a lighter structre exposing more light and shadow. During the experimentation
process, different types of home made, natural glues were tested to hold the sawdust in a solid form, but none were
successful due to the sofness of the material.
Bio Resin was the next option which resulted in a more solid form. A mold was created using two bowls for the solid
shade. The sawdust and resin were mixed, then poured into the mold. Once solid, the resin mix was removed from the
mold and shaped accordingly. The cardbard rings were cut and placed onto the shade using wooden dowels.
The final lighting structure resulted in a glass like shade, that glows while shedding light into a lighter cardboard structure.

Continuity is a chair designed according to my own de-
sign hypothesis. I wanted to create something minimal
and sleek by using minimum components. The less com-
ponents used, the more minimal the chair looks, hence
the name continuity, reflecting the continuous materials
used. The only material that makes the chair is acrylic
since its light weight and translucent. The scaled model
of the chair was exhibited at Malta Design Week, May
2014.

In a team of three, we were assigned to design
a capsule collection of transformable garments,
then chose one to produce for a fashion show.
The image shown is the final, chosen garment,
We focused on exploring different textures and
techniques to make the transformation more
dramatic. The garment starts as a black wrap
dress which features a tube like texture made
using a folding technique filled with foam.
The dress is then unclipped from the shoul-
ders to turn it into a collar - like cape using a
grey, woolen texture. The style was kept quite
minimal, using monochromatic colours, and a
simpe black and white photoshoot to enhance
the materials used.

nique to create texture.

Cara Cucina
In groups of two, we had a project assigned with another Local company, Fino, who supply Venteta Cucine to Malta. The
assignment was to design a functional kitchen space for a young couple, who enjoy entertaining. Immediately we thought of
incorporating a dining and social area to the kitchen so that it can be an overall interactive space.

As one of our Interior design assignments, we
were given a traditional Maltese townhouse to
renovate. As a group of three, we analyzed the
space and transformed it into one that is func-
tional, stylish and comfortable for a family of
three in this day and age. We tackled the space
asa whole by eliminating walls to create a more
functional space. While introducing contempo-
rary features, we still noted the traditional ele-
ments and enhanced them to create a certain
contrast.
