“It’s always something! Operating old buildings
is always an adventure! The latest Mission ad-
venture has led us into the cold…..that is, a
broken boiler on the 100 year old side that
was producing NO HEAT when we returned to
work on December 26! It was fixed enough to
keep it going until some extensive work could
be done. The time is now! The work will be
done on January 18. We ask that you prayer-
fully consider a donation to our “Operation
Heat $3000” fund. We’ve already received
some seed money for the project from a fami-
ly’s Christmas gift. Can you help us with this
necessary repair? Donations can be sent by
mail to Canton Calvary Mission, 1345 Gibbs
Ave NE, Canton, OH 44705 or electronically
through our website cantoncalvarymis-
sion.net. Please mark your donation
“boiler.” Thank you in advance for your sup-
port!”

The Liturgical Season of Epiphany
We are at the start of the season in the church we call. Epiphany, which begins on January 6th
. It is when we re-
member and honor the Magi, or Wise Men who followed the star seeking the “King of the Jews” They came follow-
ing a star in the heavens. We know that story, but if you asked the “man on the street” what epiphany meant you
might get a blank stare or some explanation that is reflective of the definition of epiphany found in the dictionary!
Here is the third set of definitions found in Webster’s Dictionary. It reflects the more secular, and worldly way of
understanding the term: Definition of epiphany
“3a(1): a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something
(2): an intuitive grasp of reality through something (such as an event) usually simple and striking
(3): an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure
b: a revealing scene or moment”
But if someone doesn’t know the definition of Epiphany and they turn to the dictionary, the first and second definition
is this:
1: January 6 observed as a church festival in commemoration of the coming of the Magi as the first manifestation of
Christ to the Gentiles or in the Eastern Church in commemoration of the baptism of Christ
2: an appearance or manifestation especially of a divine being.
The dictionary does the very thing that we should be doing—sharing our faith and understanding of who Jesus Christ
is and how he came for everyone! May we be just as diligent in seeking Jesus Christ and just as willing to share the
“Good News” with others.
This season lasts until Ash Wednesday and the first Sunday of Lent as then we prepare our hearts and lives to be
purified and strengthened in our faith and witness.
Hopefully, you are as blessed and as excited about Jesus being our Messiah, the Christ as those who travelled so far
to find him!

The latest Mission ad- venture has led us into the cold…..that is, a broken boiler on the 100 year old side that was producing NO HEAT when we returned to work on December 26! It was fixed enough to keep it going until some extensive work could be done. The time is now! The work will be done on January 18. We ask that you prayer- fully consider a donation to our “Operation Heat $3000” fund. We’ve already received some seed money for the project from a fami- ly’s Christmas gift. Can you help us with this necessary repair? Donations can be sent by mail to Canton Calvary Mission, 1345 Gibbs Ave NE, Canton, OH 44705 or electronically through our website cantoncalvarymis- sion.net. Please mark your donation “boiler.” Thank you in advance for your sup- port!” Adult Sunday School Sunday School classes for adults of all ages are held each week after wor- ship. Pastor’s Pen Church Office Hours 9 am—Noon, Monday-Thursday Please call the office if you or a family member are to be hospitalized, are under a doctor’s care, need a pastoral visit. When admitted, please inform the hospital of your church affiliation. Pastor Les Home #330.938.7704 Cell#330.284.6531 Prayer Line—Barb Dillen: 330.705.9049 or 330.832.7253 The Liturgical Season of Epiphany We are at the start of the season in the church we call. Epiphany, which begins on January 6th . It is when we re- member and honor the Magi, or Wise Men who followed the star seeking the “King of the Jews” They came follow- ing a star in the heavens. We know that story, but if you asked the “man on the street” what epiphany meant you might get a blank stare or some explanation that is reflective of the definition of epiphany found in the dictionary! Here is the third set of definitions found in Webster’s Dictionary. It reflects the more secular, and worldly way of understanding the term: Definition of epiphany “3a(1): a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something (2): an intuitive grasp of reality through something (such as an event) usually simple and striking (3): an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure b: a revealing scene or moment” But if someone doesn’t know the definition of Epiphany and they turn to the dictionary, the first and second definition is this: 1: January 6 observed as a church festival in commemoration of the coming of the Magi as the first manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles or in the Eastern Church in commemoration of the baptism of Christ 2: an appearance or manifestation especially of a divine being. The dictionary does the very thing that we should be doing—sharing our faith and understanding of who Jesus Christ is and how he came for everyone! May we be just as diligent in seeking Jesus Christ and just as willing to share the “Good News” with others. This season lasts until Ash Wednesday and the first Sunday of Lent as then we prepare our hearts and lives to be purified and strengthened in our faith and witness. Hopefully, you are as blessed and as excited about Jesus being our Messiah, the Christ as those who travelled so far to find him! Rev Les Peine
