The 5 Core Principles Of Lasallian
Schools
 Faith in the Presence of God. We believe in
and are animated by the living presence of
God in our students, our community, and our
world.
 Concern for the Poor & Social Justice. We
live and act in solidarity with the poor and
advocate for all who suffer injustice.
 Quality Education. We instruct and guide
our students to strive for scholastic excellence,
to value life-long learning, and to be servant
leaders.
 Inclusive Community. We welcome and
celebrate diversity, fostering mutual
acceptance, appreciation, and solidarity
among all persons.
 Respect for All Persons. We honor the
dignity of all persons, building and sustaining
with others relationships of care, compassion,
and love.
PRAYER
Lectio Divina
Prayer
Short Q.
Closing prayer
LECTIO Read slowly. Note what beckons,
disturbs, “shimmers” or touches you.
MEDITATIO Savor the word or phrase. Allow
it to stir up feelings, images, memories. Reflect
on its connection to your life. Listen for an
invitation or summons to new understanding
or action.
ORATIO Respond from the heart.
CONTEMPLATIO Silently rest in God’s love.
What are the words that, disturbs,
“shimmers” or touches you?
Why?
Key Term:
Prayer is a form of attentive listening to
God. It is not static but dynamic. It is
constantly changing. It is a heart to heart
relationship.
In a relationship we need to communicate,
otherwise, it will die a natural death.
What is Prayer?
Prayer is the elevation of the soul to God.
Before we pray, we have to invoke the Holy
Spirit. As the scripture says, “No one can
say Jesus is Lord unless he is under the
influence of the Holy Spirit.”
Jesus in the gospel tells us to pray
continually and never lose heart (Lk. 18:1-
8). To pray continually means to live
habitually in the presence of God.
Forms of Prayer
1.Blessing
2.Adoration
3.Petition
4.Intercession
5.Thanksgiving
6.Praise
Blessing?
2 types of Blessings:
2. A blessing from People toward
God
Adoration?
it is to prostrate ourselves in silence before
our God. As the scripture says: “Come in,
let us bow, prostrate ourselves, and kneel in
front of Yahweh our maker, for He is our
God.” (Psalm 95:6)
Petition ?
it is to ask God for spiritual
and material graces.
Intercession?
it is to ask God for spiritual
and material graces on
behalf of our neighbors.
Thanksgiving?
it is to thank God for everything
He has given us. As Saint Paul
said: “Always and everywhere
give thanks to God who is our
Father.” (Ephesians 5:20)
Praise ?
it is to glorify God for the
very fact that He is God,
apart from what He does.
Luke 4: 16-30
1. How many times have you been
rejected? How do you deal with
it?
2. What’s the story you tell
yourself when you’ve been
rejected?
3. How can you reframe rejection
from a negative to a positive
how did it change you?
Kinds of Prayer
Vocal Prayer
Meditation
Silent Prayer
Prayer of the heart
Vocal Prayer
it is to give glory to God
through our voice and our
songs. We must pray with
a clear voice, and
accompany the words with
our heart.
Meditation
it is to search in the silence
of our heart for God’s love
and will.
Silent Prayer
it is the silent and loving
contemplation of God’s
Love.
Prayer of the heart
it is the condition of continuous
prayer in which we repeat.
The hindrances of Prayer
1. Distraction
2. Spiritual Dryness
3. Worldly Occupations
4. Discouragement
Distraction
it turns our attention away from
God and makes us concentrate on
other things. We can overcome it
through vigilance of the heart.
Spiritual Dryness
it makes us cold towards God.
We can overcome it through
perseverance in prayer.
Worldly Occupations
they take us away from prayer by
occupying us with our daily
activities. We can overcome it by
alternating work and prayer, and
by making our work part of our
prayer.
Discouragement
it drives us away from prayer when
our petitions are not immediately
answered by God.
STEPS IN PRAYING
A – adoration
C – contrition
T – thanksgiving
S – supplication
Adoration – humble
ourselves
before God.
• “ Come let us bow down,
prostrate and kneel in front
of Yahweh our maker, for
He is our God.” (Psalm
95:6)
Contrition – to ask God for
forgiveness.
Thanksgiving – to thank
God
for the many
blessing received.
• “Always and
everywhere give thanks
to God who is our
Father.” (Ephesians
5:20) :
Supplication – to ask
God for personal needs.
