2. Introduction
• Since 2003, Eufaula Garrett has guided new business development
for hip-hop legend Andre 3000’s Benjamin Company. A cum laude
graduate of Florida A&M University, Eufaula Garrett stays active
with her alma mater as a lifetime member of the alumni
association.
Founded in 1901, the Florida A&M University National Alumni
Association was initially formed to provide support for the
school’s library. Over the next 100 years, the association evolved
into one of the nation’s most prominent alumni groups, with
accomplishments such as spearheading a $100 million endowment
campaign while helping to maintain Florida A&M’s identity as a
historically black college.
Among other initiatives, the alumni association recognizes
outstanding alumni through its annual Distinguished Alumni Award
program.

3. Florida A&M
• Recipients must have established themselves not only as
distinguished members of their chosen professions but
also as stand-out alumni who have committed
themselves to the welfare of Florida A&M.
Currently, the alumni association offers annual awards
to one member in each of 17 different fields, including
the arts, athletics, education, and government. All
members of the alumni association are welcome to
nominate individuals for the awards, though self-
nominations are not permitted. Awardees are chosen by
a seven-member committee comprising individuals from
the alumni association and university.
