We would like to share our experience, thoughts and knowledge gained by our visit to the company responsible for the waste management in Western Macedonia, Greece.
2. What is it?
EPADYM S.A. is a Special Purpose
Vehicle established for the
implementation of the project “Design,
Financing, Construction, Maintenance
and Operation of the Infrastructure of
the Integrated Solid Waste Management
System of the Region of Western
Macedonia”.
3.
4. We had prepared some
works to offer before
our visit…
They are made with
recycling materials (at least
we thought they were!)
5.
6.
7. First, we watched a presentation on waste
management and recycling...
11. We learnt interesting things...
● People do not recycle in the right way, so their efforts do
not bring the expected results
● Plastic glasses cannot be recycled
● Only 4 kinds of plastic can be recycled (1,2,4,5) - the other
3 types (3,6,7) cannot be recycled
● We can recycle organic waste in the brown bins EPADYM
will give us
12. ● There are 160 employees working in the company
● Two years later, energy can be produced by the waste
gases
● Each person produces 1kg waste/day
● Our prefecture is the only one in Greece which has had this
system since 2017, but the structures have been prepared
since 2005
13. Our thoughts about/after the visit...
● “Where are we heading as a planet?” Anastasia
● “Waste can return us much money, if we use it in the right
way” Anastasia
14.

16.
17. What can citizens do to protect the environment?
● They can recycle
● They can reuse
● They can push governments to create companies like
EPADYM
● They can save resources (water, metal, etc)
● Teachers can run projects on recycling and waste
management
● They can carry their own bags when they go shopping
18. ● Parents should teach their children to recycle
● We should dispose of dangerous waste in the right way
19. What can companies do to protect the
environment?
● To use environmentally friendly materials for packaging
● To be responsible when they manage their own waste
● They should run campaigns to inform their customers
● They should minimize their waste
● They should comply with the laws
● They should use raw materials friendly to the environment
