3. What can I/You Do?
• Seek help!
• SSCC Toll Free Line – 2222
• Talk to a trustworthy friend/family member
• Professional counselor
• Talk to someone who might be in need of help (struggling with their
mental health)!
• Advocacy for prevention of suicide
• Speak up and take action – stop stigma and discrimination for any reason on
any one!
• Prevention programs at institutions of learning
• Create community programs to tackle suicide and prevent it
• Talk to policymakers to enact policies on prevention and management of
suicide
4. CDC Recommendations for Suicide Prevention
• Strengthen economic supports (household financial security;
housing stabilization policies)
• Strengthen access and delivery of suicide care (insurance
cover; equity)
• Create protective environments (↓risk (e.g., alcohol);
organizational policies/culture)
• Promote connectedness (peer norm; community
engagement)
• Teach coping & problem-solving skills (social-emotional
learning programs; parenting skill & family relationship
programs)
5. • Identify & support people at risk (treatment for at-risk &
prevent re-attempts; crisis intervention – hotlines, etc.)
• Lessen harms & prevent future risk (postvention approaches;
safe reporting and messaging)
