Extentia designed for one of its global agribusiness clients, an Android mobile app which tracks farm cultivation and yields. The app enabled their field supervisors to collect data accurately and make real-time decisions in sync with the headquarters. CLIENT COMPANY PROFILE ■ Business Type: ■ Food processing business that sources produce from over 150,000 small acreage farmers ■ Requirement:  Maintain accurate details about each farm for purchase and payment of farm produce  More accurate prediction of production yields for the futures market.  Balance harvesting/cutting orders with the factory process lines for greater efficiency and yield

ENTERPRISE CHALLENGES ■ Company relied on 300 field supervisors to track the required information ■ Information was collected on hand-filled forms which caused time-lags and inaccuracies in the transfer of information ■ Absence of real-time data made it difficult for field supervisors to make decisions on whether to harvest the crop based on the crop maturity along with real time factory-loading at that time ■ Oversupply and undersupply issues ■ Very slow decision making process due to absence of real time data

EXTENTIA’S SOLUTION ■ Prepared detailed mockups of the proposed digital transformation application to the client ■ The development team created an Android-based tablet application which accessed the existing data on the farms and farmers – and could register new farms as well ■ The application integrated GPS functionality which:  Allowed the field supervisor to accurately map the farm and the portion of the farm under cultivation  Ensured that all operations were still available offline

EXTENTIA’S SOLUTION ■ The data could be stored locally offline and then exchanged with the central servers when the device was back online ■ During harvest time: ■ The field supervisors were able to communicate the maturity of the crops to the factory manager ■ Factory managers could in turn convey their decisions on harvesting orders to the field supervisors in real time.

BENEFITS ■ Digitizing their agricultural process provided a wide range of benefits to the client:  With much greater data accuracy and data retrieval, the company saw a great boost to efficiency  In addition to greatly improving accuracy, the app helped eliminate the need for 10% of the field supervisors  With exact mapping of the area under cultivation (with all the details of crop type, irrigation, etc.), the prediction of future crop yields significantly helped the company to make correct pricing decisions in the futures market  The improved real-time reporting and live synchronization of information made harvesting decisions much more effective and improved factory utilization
