PORTO CITY
Porto city is known as Invicta City. It is the city that gave the name to Portugal – since long
time ago (200 b.C), when it was called Portus Cale, and after it become to be the capital of the
Condado Portucalense (County of Portugal). It is also a city known worldwide for its wine, its
bridges, ancient and contemporary architecture, and its historical center, listed as World
Heritage by UNESCO.
"tripeiros" Legend
The native of Porto are known as "tripeiros". According to the legend the Oporto people made
sacrifices to support the preparation of armed for the conquest of Ceuta in 1415: it is said that
they offered the expedition all the meat available, just getting the guts. That’s why the
traditional dish of the city is still, today, the "tripas à moda do Porto" (guts in the Porto way).

São Bento Train station:
It is one of the most beautiful spots of Porto. Inside is decorated with more than 20.00 tiles
that form distinct images. Some represent the arrival of the first train, others medieval

Stock Exchange Palace
The Stock Exchange Palace, or Palace of Porto Commercial Association, is a national
monument, built between 1842 and 1891. The Arab Hall holds the biggest highlight of all the

characters that fill the walls and ceiling of the room.

Port Wine Cellars – Vila Nova de Gaia
Port wine is a natural and fortified wine, produced exclusively from grapes from the Douro
region in the north of Portugal, about 100 miles east of Porto. Although produced with grapes
from the Douro and stored in the cellars Vila Nova de Gaia, this alcoholic beverage became
known as "port wine" from the second half of the seventeenth century to be exported around
the world from this city.
