4. ROLE OF NGO’S
• Fighting individual violations of human rights either directly
or by supporting particular ‘test cases' through relevant courts
• Offering direct assistance to those whose rights have been
violated
• Lobbying for changes to national, regional or international law
helping to develop the substance of those laws
• Promoting knowledge of, and respect for, human rights among
the population.

Thematic areas:
NGO’s working on some selected and specified areas for the
betterment of the people . They advocate the problem of the
people and then trying to sort out it through lobbying. i.e. UN
women, UNFPA , work on women protection and empowerment.
operational/geographical areas:
An overarching term encompassing more descriptive terms for
geographic areas in which NGO operations are conducted.
NGO’s working in an area i.e SPARC working in kp, Punjab.

the Vienna Conference – was attended by 841 NGOs from
throughout the world, all of which described themselves as

7. NGO’S AND HUMAN RIGHTS
• The best known of such organizations, at least on the
international stage, include Amnesty International, Human
Rights Watch, and the International Federation for Human
Rights.
8. AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
• Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7
million people who take injustice personally.
• They are campaigning for a world where human rights are
enjoyed by all.
• Through their detailed research and determined campaigning,
they help fight abuses of human rights worldwide.

10. HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH
• Human Rights Watch investigates and reports on abuses
happening in all corners of the world.
• We are people who are country experts, lawyers, journalists,
and others who work to protect the most at risk, from
vulnerable minorities and civilians in wartime, to refugees and
children in need.
• Thematic areas
• We direct our advocacy towards governments, armed groups
and businesses, pushing them to change or enforce their laws,
policies and practices.
• We partner with organizations large and small across the globe
to protect embattled activists and to help hold abusers to
account and bring justice to victims.

some countries, uncovering facts that create an
undeniable record of human rights abuses.
• Expose: they tell the stories of what we found, sharing
them with millions of social media and online followers
each day. News media often report on our investigations,
furthering our reach.

policy is changed, laws are enforced, and justice is
served.
12. HRCP
• Human rights commission of Pakistan
• Created in 1987, main office in Lahore.
• It has developed to become an influential country wide human
rights body.
• The HRCP has established a leading role in providing a highly
informed and objective voice on a national level in the struggle
for the provision of human rights for all and democratic
development in Pakistan.
• Thematic areas
• Working for implementation of universal declaration of human
rights.
13. HRCP…
• Besides monitoring human rights violations and seeking
redress through public campaigns, lobbying and intervention
in courts, HRCP organizes seminars, workshops and fact
finding missions
• Operational areas
• Working throughout the country
• It also issues a monthly magazine in the Urdu language called
Jehd-i-Haq and an annual report on the state of human rights
in the country, available in both English and Urdu.
• To promote research and studies in the field of human rights.
14. Society for the protection of rights of the child
• Established in 1992
• Thematic areas
• Securing and protecting the rights of children in pakistan.
• Child rights governance (implement the policies)
• Promoting child friendly education
• Improvement of the juvenile justice system and laws
• Capacitate and enable the rights of the poor and marginalized
and discriminated children in poverty.

16. Aurat Foundation
• Established in 1986.
• Registered under the society’s registration act 1860.
• Thematic areas
• Aurat foundation is committed to create widespread
awareness and commitment for a just, democratic and caring
society in Pakistan, where women and men are recognized as
equals, with the right to lead their lives with self-respect and
dignity.
• Over the last 28 years, Aurat Foundation has come to be
recognised nationally and internationally as one of the
leading institutions creating, facilitating and strengthening
civil society groups and networks for promoting trust.

19. PILER;
• The Pakistan institute of labor education and research
• Founded on 1 May 1982.
• Thematic areas
• Labor rights have always been a priority for PILER
• They work for working class people’s right to a decent
livelihood through lobbying with government departments and
ministries; capacity building of grass root organizations, trade
and labor unions; awareness raising activities and research
work.
• Special emphasis is laid upon female workers, bonded labor
and workers of the informal sector. PILER believes that for
rights to be achieved, the laborers of the world needed.

• PILER strongly advocates equal rights for all citizens of
Pakistan without any discrimination.
• From the restoration of democracy and the judiciary, to target
killings in Balochistan and Karachi, religious extremism,
kidnapping and forced conversion of religious minorities,
PILER has consistently objected to and campaigned against
human rights violations.

21. HEDO
• Health and Education Development Organization
• Thematic areas
• Providing services of health and education for the poor and
needy people in Pakistan
• The major activities of HAEDO includes provision of health
care through hospitals and maternal and child health centers.
In addition education for children is provided through formal
and informal schools.
• Vocational centers provide computers and vocational training
for youth
