2. BELhospice
•BELhospice is the first specialized charity organization in Serbia that provides
palliative care to cancer patients during terminal phase of their illness. All BH services
are free of charge for the patients and their families, since the work of the
organization is financed solely through donations, sponsorships, volunteering work,
and participations in sports/charity events organized by BH. Besides providing
palliative care to terminally ill patients, BELhospice assists in the process of education
of relevant professionals and general public, and promotes the palliative care concept
in the wider community. BH is engaged in lobbying for relevant policy and legislation
changes on the national level, aimed at incorporating palliative care within the
existing health care system.
•Long-term goal of BH is to improve the existing status and establish the first in-
patient hospice for providing palliative care in Serbia. The building permit was
promised from the local authorities, whereas BH will be engaged in fundraising. The
Ministry of Health provided its support in principle, and it will have a supervisory role
in the project.
