made preparations to
hire helicopters on rent
till the commencement
of the code of conduct
for the assembly polls.
A proposal has been
sent to the Finance De-

ders for five to eight
seater helicopters will
be issued after the ap-
proval from the CM.
The helicopter with
VVIP facilities will be
taken from the compa-

Helicopters are need-

ernment’s plan to buy
new government air-
craft and helicopters
has been shelved. After
the presentation of the
companies regarding
this, the whole process
could have taken up to
one-and-a-half-years.
So, the government will
have to run its work
only with hired aircraft
during election tours.
Earlier, the govern-

comings of those heli-

process of purchasing
multi-turbine engine
helicopters was started.
A VVIP helicopter with
a multi-turbine engine
was to be purchased,
which could cost Rs 100
crore. Besides, VVIP 12

This would have cost be-

process from tender to
completion. So, helicop-

Earlier this week, the
World Health Organiza-

that Covid-19 no longer
represents a “global

he coronation ceremony Charles
III is about to go through reflects
how monarchy has developed
since Saxon times, but it still
carries many vestiges of Brit-
ain’s imperial past.
In the 18th century, the royal
title changed from “King of Eng-
land” to “King of the United
Kingdom”, as successive Acts of
Union joined England, Scotland
and Ireland into one political
unit. However, the biggest
change in the royal title came in
1876, when the Royal Titles Act
made Queen Victoria Empress
of India. This gave her authority
even over those areas of India
which were not formally subject
to British rule.
To give this change of title a
formal announcement in India,
the British authorities staged
what became the first of three
durbars – ceremonial events
held in the British Raj to formal-
ly proclaim the imperial title.
Queen Victoria’s was held in
1877, the year following the act,
but Edward VII’s and George V’s
were held in conjunction with
their coronations.
The viceroy of India in 1877,
Lord Lytton, concocted the orig-
inal durbar from a mixture of
Persian, Mughal and English
ceremonial traditions, as a for-
mal proclamation of the queen’s
title. When her son became Ed-
ward VII in 1901, a bigger dur-
bar was organised to proclaim
his imperial title – although,
like his mother, Edward re-
mained in London.
In 1911, George V and Queen
Mary travelled to India for an
elaborately staged coronation
durbar, where they would take
centre stage. This raised tricky
questions of protocol. George’s
coronation in Westminster Ab-
bey invested him with all his
imperial titles, so what would be
the impact of being “crowned”
in India? Would it mean that his
successors would not be emper-
ors unless they held a durbar?
And what did it mean for his
predecessors who had not at-
tended theirs?
The crown of England was
not allowed to leave the country,
so a special crown was con-
structed for George V to wear in
India, while Queen Mary wore
her “best diadem” – a heavily
ornamented headband. They sat
sweating under the Delhi sun in
their heavy coronation robes,
furs and all.
In the end, the Delhi durbar
consisted of Indian princes pay-
ing homage to the king-emperor
in a ceremony that owed as
much to European feudalism as
it did to Indian tradition. Plans
for George VI to have an Indian
durbar were postponed in the
post-abdication sense of general
exhaustion, and abandoned as
war loomed.
CORONATION AND THE
COMMONWEALTH
The 1931 Statute of Westminster
formalised the evolution of
some former colonies into self-
governing dominions within a
British commonwealth. Both
George VI and Elizabeth II were
crowned as monarchs over the
UK and of territories overseas.
The coronation oath, a legal re-
quirement dating back to the
Coronation Oath Act of 1688,
has been amended on various
occasions, taking account of
former colonies which have be-
come republics.
The oath Charles III will take
has been amended slightly to
cover his duties to his other
kingdoms by agreement with
their governments. Even so, for
the king of Canada to be
crowned in London is a remind-
er that the modern monarch’s
title still reflects the old empire.
ELEMENTS OF EMPIRE
Even the medieval roots of the
coronation have elements of em-
pire built into them. The Stone
of Scone, which will be placed
beneath the coronation chair,
was removed from Scotland by
Edward I as a symbol of Scot-
land’s subjugation to England.
Scottish nationalists demanded
the stone’s return to Scotland
for years.
When John Major acceded to
their wishes in 1996, it was on
condition that the stone would
return to Westminster for fu-
ture coronations – a gesture
some see as an unwelcome rem-
nant of England’s imperial hold
over Scotland, though others
regard it as a symbol of unity
.
In a nod to Welsh nationalist
feeling, King Charles’s corona-
tion will also include the kyrie
(Lord Have Mercy) performed in
Welsh.
One item of the crown jewels
is a stark reminder of empire –
but it will notably be missing
from the coronation ceremony.
The Koh-i-Noor diamond was
taken by the British after their
wars with the Sikh kingdom of
Punjab, and presented to Queen
Victoria in 1849. It was reshaped
by Prince Albert and fitted into
the crown jewels. Both Queen
Alexandra and Queen Mary
wore it at their coronations,
though Queen Mary, tactfully,
did not wear it for the 1911 coro-
nation durbar.
Seeing the diamond as symbol
of British imperial acquisitive-
ness, the Indian government has
demanded its return, though,
historically, both Pakistan and
Iran could also lay claim to it.
Camilla, the Queen Consort, has
decided to be crowned in Queen
Mary’s crown, from which the
famous diamond has been re-
moved. The controversy about
the Koh-i-Noor will doubtless
continue, but won’t intrude on
this coronation ceremony
.
A NEW-LOOK GUEST LIST
The biggest move away from im-
perial tradition has been in the
compilation of the guest list. In
the past, the only rulers to re-
ceive an invite were those of
British overseas territories,
such as Queen Salote of Tonga,
who delighted the crowds in
1953 by braving the rain in an
open-top carriage and scorning
an umbrella.
Charles III has departed from
precedent by issuing invitations
to monarchs from Europe and
the Middle East, regardless of
whether or not they had ties to
the British empire. Some other
heads of state are also attending,
though the US will be represent-
ed by the first lady, Jill Biden,
rather than the president.
At a time when polling sug-
gests declining support for the
monarchy, especially among the
young, the coronation might
seem an irrelevant, if colourful,
distraction from more pressing
concerns.
There has been similar indif-
ference before other royal
events. Elizabeth II’s silver jubi-
lee in 1977 was preceded by
“stuff the jubilee” protests, but
still proved a popular success.
The unexpectedly warm public
responses to her subsequent ju-
bilees, and especially to her fu-
neral, might suggest that many
British are secretly more royal-
ist than polling would suggest.
By inviting representatives of
a wide range of ethnic groups
and different faiths to partici-
pate in the ceremony, the king is
turning his coronation into a
reflection of his diverse and de-
cidedly post-imperial kingdom.
The coronation is still not en-
tirely free of echoes of empire,
but it represents an important
stage in the modern monarchy’s
move away from its shadow.

New Delhi: America,
the world's biggest su-
perpower, is passing
through a period of cri-
sis and the country has
less than a month left to
save its reputation. US
Treasury Secretary Ja-
net Yellen has warned
that the US could run
out of cash by June 1 if
the Biden Administra-
tion fails to extend or
suspendthedebtceiling.
It means the US gov-
ernment has crossed its
spending limit and if it
does not increase the
borrowing limit imme-
diately, then on June 1,
2023 the government
will run out of money to
runthecountry
.Toavoid
such a situation, Yellen
has appealed to the gov-
ernment to take action
as soon as possible.
US President Joe
Biden has called a meet-
ing of Congress leaders
on this issue on May 9.
The opposition House
Republicans in the US
Parliament last week
passed a bill to raise the
debt ceiling, with sug-
gestions of drastic cuts
in spending from
healthcare for the poor
to airfares for the
wealthy, but the ruling
Democrats rejected it
outrightly
. Biden is firm
on his stance of any dis-
cussion on budget cuts
only after increasing
the debt limit. Looking
back, the debt ceiling in
the US has been raised
or revised 78 times since
the 1960s. Ronald Rea-
gan extended it 19 times,
Bill Clinton 8 times,
George W
. Bush 7 times,
and Barack Obama 5
times. That is, whoever
the government may be,
the debt crisis is not a
new thing for America.
There is a possibility
that due to default,
America may be in the
grip of recession, GDP
may take a 5% dive
unemployment may
cross all limits with 70
lakh jobs at immediate
stake. The situation is
that America's debt-to-
GDP ratio has reached
120%, which is even
higher than during the
2nd World War.

The defence ministry
,
in March, had circulat-

The memorandum

After deliberations, it
has been decided that
the Republic Day Pa-

women participants in
the contingents (march-

Unseasonal rains hit sales of cooling appliances in Raj
Jaipur (PTI): While a
relatively cool start to
the summer season in
Rajasthan due to unsea-
sonal rains has most
people thanking the
weather gods, traders
selling air conditioners
and coolers are feeling
the heat due to weak
sales.
Large parts of Ra-
jasthan witnessed be-
low-normal tempera-
tures over the last two
months due to rains and
thunderstorms trig-
gered by back-to-back
western disturbances,
weather systems that
originate in the Medi-
terranean region and
bring unseasonal rain-
fall to northwest India.
The unseasonably
cool weather has affect-
ed the sale of cooling ap-
pliances.
According to Sachin
Gupta, president of Jay-
anti Market here, the
sale of air conditioners
has dropped 40 per cent
compared to last year
and that of coolers has
seen a 60 per cent de-
cline.
“The start of the sea-
son was good in Febru-
ary but soon after Holi,
when the weather start-
ed changing, sales start-
ed slowing down.
Throughout March and
April, sales were low be-
cause the temperature
hovered around 30-32
degrees Celsius,” said
Gupta, who is also a dis-
tributor of air condi-
tioners.
Companies are also
running various offers,
including cashback of-
fers, to boost sales, he
said. Ashutosh Joshi,
who sells coolers, said
there was a shortage of
coolers in the market
last year and the same
situation was expected
this year.
“However, March and
April have been dull for
us. Now the tempera-
ture has started increas-
ing and we expect sales
to pick up,” he said.
Cooler temperatures
have also hit potters’
earnings.
Mukesh Prajapat, a
potter in Gajsinghpura,
said he usually sells
around 1,500 earthen
pots from February to
June but has only sold
150 so far this year.
This is because of
rains keeping the tem-
perature in check, he
said. Bageshwari Devi,
a customer visiting Pra-
japat’s shop, said she
didn’t feel the need to
buy an earthen pot until
now.
“Because of cooler
weather in March and
April, I didn’t feel the
need to buy an earthen
pot. Now that the tem-
perature is starting to
rise, I have come to buy
one,” she said.
Traders and potters
can expect sales to pick
up soon as the meteoro-
logical department has
predicted warmer days
ahead. The weather of-
fice has forecast dry
weather and an in-
crease in day tempera-
tures over the next
three days.

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24
Rajendra Chhabra
Jaipur: For the past
some time, Rajasthan
cadre officials are ea-
gerly awaiting central
deputation as well as
being empanelled, and
picked for posting. This
is a story of eight IAS
officials.
The recent issue is of
empanelment on the
postof AdditionalSecre-
tary
. After the review
meeting, the Appoint-
mentCommitteeof Cab-
inet, on April 24, took
out approval order for
IAS of 1995-97 batch for
Additional Secretary
post. But in this, our
three officers - Shikhar
Agrawal,DineshKumar
and Rajesh Yadav’s
names were missing.
Among these, it was a
surprise for the entire
Rajasthan cadre offi-
cials that Rajesh Yadav
was not considered.
RajeshhadgonetoDelhi
in March 2022 after be-
coming JS. Generally, a
JS serving in Delhi for
one year is empanelled
for the post of Addition-
alsecretary
,yetRajesh
Yadav was left out.
Similarly, Shikhar
Agrawal (1993 batch)
and Dinesh Kumar (1996
batch) returned to Ra-
jasthan cadre after serv-
ing at the Centre as DS
and JS. Both the offi-
cials are eagerly await-
ing their empanelment
for the post of Addition-
al Secretary
. Several re-
view lists have been re-
leased, and yet, even in
the latest review list,
both the officials have
been left. Whereas, their
junior IAS of 1995 batch
are already working on
the post of Additional
Secretary
.
Moreover, capable,
meritorious brilliant
officer of 2006 batch,
Gaurav Goyal’s non-em-
panelment has also been
considered a surprising
and uncommon develop-
ment whereas, his batch
mate IAS, in other state
cadres, have been em-
panelled.
Now let us talk about
posting and appoint-
ments. People have not
forgotten how long Sud-
hansh Pant had to wait
for becoming Secretary
.
1993 batch IAS Sandeep
Verma is awaiting a call
from Delhi for the post
of Additional Secretary
and the state govern-
ment has given its NOC
nearly six months back.
In this time, three lists
for appointment on the
post of Additional Sec-
retary have come, but
Sandeep’s name fea-
tured in none of them,
which is a surprise.
Similarly, it has been
long time since Praveen
Gupta, Ajeetabh Shar-
ma and Subeer Kumar
were issued NOC for
becoming JS, but no
one knows the reason
why these officials are
not being picked.
Whereas, Praveen and
Ajeetabh’s batches have
been freezed because of-
ficials junior to them,
have become Addition-
al Secretary
. Intermsof
ability and talent, our
IAS are second to none,
and the cases of Sand-
eep and Shikhar are ut-
most serious.

First India Bureau
Jaipur: Chief Minis-
ter Ashok Gehlot has
voiced concern over
the safety of students
from the state stranded
in violence-hit Ma-
nipur.
Manipur is witness-
ing violent clashes over
a move to grant sched-
uled tribe status to the
majority Metei commu-
nity in the state. Naga
and Kuki tribes who are
opposing this plan or-
ganised a ‘Tribal Soli-
darity March’ on
Wednesday after which
the clashes broke out.
Gehlot on Saturday
said that top officials of
his government are in
touch with officials in
the northeastern state.
“The news of some
students of Rajasthan
being trapped in Ma-
nipur violence is wor-
rying,” he said in a
tweet in Hindi.
“The Chief Secretary
and the Director Gen-
eral of Police of Ra-
jasthan are in touch
with senior officials
there and soon efforts
will be made to bring
them home safely,” the
Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister
further added saying,
“The State government
is engaged in ensuring
safe return of students
and it will bear the en-
tire travel expenses of
students coming to Ra-
jasthan due to violence
in Manipur. Chief Res-
ident Commissioner in
Delhi and Commis-
sioner of Rajasthan
Foundation will coor-
dinate for students’
safe return.”
Raje, 2...
Addressing a pro-
gramme in Dholpur, Ge-
hlot said his govern-
ment could be saved be-
cause of the support of
three BJP leaders, for-
mer CM Vasundhara
Raje, former assembly
speaker Kailash Megh-
wal and MLA Shobha-
rani Kushwah. “(Union
ministers) Amit Shah,
GS Shekhawat and
Dharmendra Pradhan
conspired together to
topple my government.
They distributed money
in Rajasthan and they
are not taking the mon-
ey back now. I am sur-
prised why they are not
demanding the money
back from them (the
MLAs),” he claimed. “I
have even told the MLAs
that whatever money
they have taken, Rs 10
crore or Rs 20 crore, if
you have spent any-
thing, I will give that
part or I will get it from
AICC (All India Con-
gress Committee),” he
said. Gehlot alleged that
if the MLAs did not re-
turn the money, they
will always be under
pressure from Amit
Shah. “He is the Union
home minister, he will
intimidate...in Maha-
rashtra he divided Shiv
Sena,” Gehlot alleged.
He said that he was
made the Chief Minis-
ter by the party for a
third time and it was his
duty to take all along
and forget past happen-
ings and ensure the re-
turn of the party to
power in the assembly
elections, slated for later
this year.

the state budget, he
said, efforts have been
made to provide relief
to every areas of the
state including Karauli

Dholpur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot patted the back of
Dholpur Collector, Anil Agrawal and admired the good
work carried out by the district administration in the
various inflation relief camps being organised in the dis-
trict. Dholpur ranks second in the state in organising the
Mehangai Rahat camps.More than 5.35 lakh guarantee
cards under various schemes have been distributed in
the camps in Dholpur. District Collector is monitoring
the progress of inflation relief camps everyday.
CM Ashok Gehlot on Sunday expressed his pain over
not making ministers those MLAs who saved his gov-
ernment. “My govt survived because of 102 people. Rohit
Bohra, and Danish mAbrar were entitled to become min-
isters. 6 MLAs from BSP and independents were entitled
to become ministers. But could not make them ministers
due to political reasons,” he said in Dholpur. Out of BSP
MLAs, only Rajendra Gudha could become a minister.

Shanti Dhariwal greets the people of Khatik community during a
programme held at the UIT Auditorium in Kota on Sunday.
“CM’s statement...
The truth is that he has made such outrageous and untrue al-
legations in his fury because of the rebellion happening in his
own party and the mass base slipping away,”
she said. Raje said that as far as horse-trading
is concerned, Ashok Gehlot himself is the
mastermind behind it. “He did this in 2008 and
2018 as he was in minority. At that time nei-
ther BJP nor Congress got a majority. At that
time, if we wanted, we too could have formed
the government, but it was against the principles of the BJP.
On the contrary, Gehlot formed the government both the
times by arranging MLAs through his transactions,” she said.
To avoid the historic defeat in 2023 elections, he is creating
such fabricated stories, which is unfortunate and this trick of
his is not going to be successful.

Your own Fashion
City First brings to you glimpses of the royal red lehengas that
will add charisma to your look in this wedding season!
s wedding season ap-
proaches, the search
for the perfect attire
becomes more and
more intense. One of
the most popular
choices for brides-to-
be is the royal red le-
henga. This tradi-
tional attire has been
worn for genera-
tions and has be-
come a symbol
of elegance and
sophistication.
The royal red lehenga is a
three-piece ensemble consist-
ing of a skirt, a blouse, and a
dupatta (scarf). The skirt is
typically heavily embellished
with intricate embroidery, in-
tricate sequin work, and
beautiful beadwork. The
blouse is also usually heavily
embellished with the same at-
tention to detail. The dupatta
is typically made of soft, flow-
ing material and is also
adorned with embroidery or
sequin work.
The color red has a signifi-
cant meaning in Indian cul-
ture. It symbolizes love, pas-
sion, and fertility, making it
the perfect color for weddings.
The royal red lehenga is also a
symbol of wealth and prosper-
ity, as it is often made of ex-
pensivematerialsandfeatures
intricate designs that require
skilled craftsmanship.
One of the main reasons
why the royal red lehenga is
so popular is that it suits all
skin tones. The rich red hue
flatters both fair and darker
skin tones, making it a versa-
tile option for all brides. The
lehenga can also be custom-
ized to suit different prefer-
ences and tastes. For example,
some brides opt for a lighter
shade of red or add touches of
gold or silver for a more glam-
orous look.
The royal red lehenga has
been worn by many famous
Indian brides, including Aish-
warya Rai, Deepika Padu-
kone, and Priyanka Chopra.
Their iconic wedding lehen-
gas have inspired many
brides-to-be to choose a simi-
lar style for their big day

AssociationofIron-deficiency
ANEMIA IN KIDS
withfebrile seizure
DR YOGESH YADAV
The writer is a senior child
specialist Associate
Professor at JK Lone
Hospital
DR GOVIND CHAUDHARY
The writer is a
resident doctor
at JK Lone
Hospital
n this research work done
in Rajasthan’s JK Lone
Hospital, it was found
that children who come
with febrile convulsions
have some relationship
with iron deficiency ane-
mia and iron deficiency in the
body
. This research work has also
been published in the Indian Jour-
nal of Applied Research. Seizures
in fever are such a problem that
always worries the parents.
Febrile convulsions are a com-
mon condition that affects young
children,typicallybetweentheages
of 6monthsand5years.Theyoccur
when a child develops a fever, usu-
ally as a result of an infection, and
the fever triggers a seizure. Febrile
convulsions can be frightening for
parents to witness but do not cause
anylong-termharm.Thechanceof
future epilepsy is only 1 to 2%.
The problem occurs in 2-5% of
children. At the age of six months
to five years, seizures with fever
are usually present, in this, when
children have fever, then the child
becomes unconscious along with
jerks in the hands and feet. Most of
them come at the age of 1-2 years.
Apart from hemoglobin in the
body
, iron is a major component of
brain metabolism and many en-
zymes. That’s why iron deficiency
increases the chances of seizures
in children.
In the research work, two
groups of 80-80 children were
made and one group was of chil-
dren having seizures with fever
and the other group was of chil-
dren with fever who did not have
seizures. It was found that chil-
dren who had seizures were found
to be iron deficient.
 Children suffer no pain or discomfort during a fit.
 A febrile convulsion is not epilepsy. No regular drugs are needed.
 A short-lived fit will not cause brain damage. Even a long fit almost never
causes harm. Children who have had a febrile convulsion grow up healthy.
 If you have concerns or questions, contact your doctor. In an emergency, take
your child to the nearest hospital emergency department.
 There is a medication called Midazolam that is sometimes recommended for
children who have a history of febrile convulsions lasting longer than 5 minutes.
Most children do not require this medication. If you would like more information
about this treatment, you should talk with your doctor.
REASSURANCE FOR PARENTS ABOUT FEBRILE CONVULSIONS
MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS
The most common symptoms of febrile
convulsions include shaking or twitch-
ing, loss of consciousness, and some-
times, loss of bowel or bladder control.
These symptoms usually last for just a
few minutes and then subside on their
own. Neither anti-seizure medication
nor anti-fever medication is recom-
mended to prevent further febrile sei-
zures. Efforts to rapidly cool the child’s
body during a seizure have not been ex-
tensively studied but are not recom-
mended. The long-term outcome of chil-
dren with febrile seizures is generally
excellent with similar academic achieve-
ments to other children.
Febrile convulsions can be scary, but
they are generally not serious and do not
cause any long-term harm. With proper
care and attention, your child should re-
cover quickly and be back to their nor-
mal self in no time.
One in every 20 chil-
dren will have one or
more febrile convul-
sions. A febrile convulsion is not epi-
lepsy and does not cause brain damage.
Around 30% of babies and children who
have had one febrile convulsion will
have another. There is no way to predict
who will be affected or when this will
happen.
GENETIC
There is evidence that many children
with febrile seizures have a genetic pre-
disposition to have febrile seizures. If a
child with a febrile seizure has an identi-
cal twin (monozygotic), the twin is much
more likely to also have a febrile seizure
than if the twin is non-identical (dizy-
gotic). First-degree relatives (mother,
father, sibling) of a child with febrile sei-
zures have a risk of 10–15% of having a
febrile seizure compared with the gen-
eral risk in the population of only
3–4%.
If your child experiences a
febrile convulsion, there are a
few things you can do to help:
 Stay calm. Although it can be scary
to see your child having a seizure, re-
member that febrile convulsions are
not usually serious and will
pass on their own.
 Protect your child
from injury. Move any
objects that your child
might bump into out of
the way, and gently hold
your child to prevent them from fall-
ing.
 Monitor your child’s breathing. Make
sure your child is breathing normally
and that their airway is clear.
 Take your child’s temperature and
give them medication if necessary
. If
your child’s fever is high, you can give
them acetaminophen or ibuprofen to
bring it down.
 Seek medical attention if necessary.
In most cases, febrile convulsions do
not require medical treatment.
However, you should call your doctor
if your child has a prolonged seizure
(more than 5 minutes), if they
have difficulty breathing, or if they
have another seizure soon after the
first one.
TYPES OF FEBRILE SEIZURES
There are two types of febrile seizures: Simple and Complex. Simple febrile seizures
involve an otherwise healthy child with a single, one episode of a generalized
seizure lasting less than 15 minutes. Complex febrile seizures have one or more of
the following: focal symptoms such as jerking of only one side of the body, duration
greater than 15 minutes, or two or more seizures within 24 hours. About 60–70% are
classified as simple febrile seizures and 30–40% as complex.

It is said that anemia
due to iron is a com-
mon problem and we
can easily get rid of the
problem by supplement-
ing iron and not only it removes
anemia in children but also helps in
preventing seizures. If this hap-
pens, we should give iron supple-
ments to the children and keep
checking their iron status from time
to time.

  • 4. he coronation ceremony Charles III is about to go through reflects how monarchy has developed since Saxon times, but it still carries many vestiges of Brit- ain’s imperial past. In the 18th century, the royal title changed from “King of Eng- land” to “King of the United Kingdom”, as successive Acts of Union joined England, Scotland and Ireland into one political unit. However, the biggest change in the royal title came in 1876, when the Royal Titles Act made Queen Victoria Empress of India. This gave her authority even over those areas of India which were not formally subject to British rule. To give this change of title a formal announcement in India, the British authorities staged what became the first of three durbars – ceremonial events held in the British Raj to formal- ly proclaim the imperial title. Queen Victoria’s was held in 1877, the year following the act, but Edward VII’s and George V’s were held in conjunction with their coronations. The viceroy of India in 1877, Lord Lytton, concocted the orig- inal durbar from a mixture of Persian, Mughal and English ceremonial traditions, as a for- mal proclamation of the queen’s title. When her son became Ed- ward VII in 1901, a bigger dur- bar was organised to proclaim his imperial title – although, like his mother, Edward re- mained in London. In 1911, George V and Queen Mary travelled to India for an elaborately staged coronation durbar, where they would take centre stage. This raised tricky questions of protocol. George’s coronation in Westminster Ab- bey invested him with all his imperial titles, so what would be the impact of being “crowned” in India? Would it mean that his successors would not be emper- ors unless they held a durbar? And what did it mean for his predecessors who had not at- tended theirs? The crown of England was not allowed to leave the country, so a special crown was con- structed for George V to wear in India, while Queen Mary wore her “best diadem” – a heavily ornamented headband. They sat sweating under the Delhi sun in their heavy coronation robes, furs and all. In the end, the Delhi durbar consisted of Indian princes pay- ing homage to the king-emperor in a ceremony that owed as much to European feudalism as it did to Indian tradition. Plans for George VI to have an Indian durbar were postponed in the post-abdication sense of general exhaustion, and abandoned as war loomed. CORONATION AND THE COMMONWEALTH The 1931 Statute of Westminster formalised the evolution of some former colonies into self- governing dominions within a British commonwealth. Both George VI and Elizabeth II were crowned as monarchs over the UK and of territories overseas. The coronation oath, a legal re- quirement dating back to the Coronation Oath Act of 1688, has been amended on various occasions, taking account of former colonies which have be- come republics. The oath Charles III will take has been amended slightly to cover his duties to his other kingdoms by agreement with their governments. Even so, for the king of Canada to be crowned in London is a remind- er that the modern monarch’s title still reflects the old empire. ELEMENTS OF EMPIRE Even the medieval roots of the coronation have elements of em- pire built into them. The Stone of Scone, which will be placed beneath the coronation chair, was removed from Scotland by Edward I as a symbol of Scot- land’s subjugation to England. Scottish nationalists demanded the stone’s return to Scotland for years. When John Major acceded to their wishes in 1996, it was on condition that the stone would return to Westminster for fu- ture coronations – a gesture some see as an unwelcome rem- nant of England’s imperial hold over Scotland, though others regard it as a symbol of unity . In a nod to Welsh nationalist feeling, King Charles’s corona- tion will also include the kyrie (Lord Have Mercy) performed in Welsh. One item of the crown jewels is a stark reminder of empire – but it will notably be missing from the coronation ceremony. The Koh-i-Noor diamond was taken by the British after their wars with the Sikh kingdom of Punjab, and presented to Queen Victoria in 1849. It was reshaped by Prince Albert and fitted into the crown jewels. Both Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary wore it at their coronations, though Queen Mary, tactfully, did not wear it for the 1911 coro- nation durbar. Seeing the diamond as symbol of British imperial acquisitive- ness, the Indian government has demanded its return, though, historically, both Pakistan and Iran could also lay claim to it. Camilla, the Queen Consort, has decided to be crowned in Queen Mary’s crown, from which the famous diamond has been re- moved. The controversy about the Koh-i-Noor will doubtless continue, but won’t intrude on this coronation ceremony . A NEW-LOOK GUEST LIST The biggest move away from im- perial tradition has been in the compilation of the guest list. In the past, the only rulers to re- ceive an invite were those of British overseas territories, such as Queen Salote of Tonga, who delighted the crowds in 1953 by braving the rain in an open-top carriage and scorning an umbrella. Charles III has departed from precedent by issuing invitations to monarchs from Europe and the Middle East, regardless of whether or not they had ties to the British empire. Some other heads of state are also attending, though the US will be represent- ed by the first lady, Jill Biden, rather than the president. At a time when polling sug- gests declining support for the monarchy, especially among the young, the coronation might seem an irrelevant, if colourful, distraction from more pressing concerns. There has been similar indif- ference before other royal events. Elizabeth II’s silver jubi- lee in 1977 was preceded by “stuff the jubilee” protests, but still proved a popular success. The unexpectedly warm public responses to her subsequent ju- bilees, and especially to her fu- neral, might suggest that many British are secretly more royal- ist than polling would suggest. By inviting representatives of a wide range of ethnic groups and different faiths to partici- pate in the ceremony, the king is turning his coronation into a reflection of his diverse and de- cidedly post-imperial kingdom. The coronation is still not en- tirely free of echoes of empire, but it represents an important stage in the modern monarchy’s move away from its shadow. —THECONVERSATION Spoke in Mysuru on foreign policy of Modi Government. New Delhi: America, the world's biggest su- perpower, is passing through a period of cri- sis and the country has less than a month left to save its reputation. US Treasury Secretary Ja- net Yellen has warned that the US could run out of cash by June 1 if the Biden Administra- tion fails to extend or suspendthedebtceiling. It means the US gov- ernment has crossed its spending limit and if it does not increase the borrowing limit imme- diately, then on June 1, 2023 the government will run out of money to runthecountry .Toavoid such a situation, Yellen has appealed to the gov- ernment to take action as soon as possible. US President Joe Biden has called a meet- ing of Congress leaders on this issue on May 9. The opposition House Republicans in the US Parliament last week passed a bill to raise the debt ceiling, with sug- gestions of drastic cuts in spending from healthcare for the poor to airfares for the wealthy, but the ruling Democrats rejected it outrightly . Biden is firm on his stance of any dis- cussion on budget cuts only after increasing the debt limit. Looking back, the debt ceiling in the US has been raised or revised 78 times since the 1960s. Ronald Rea- gan extended it 19 times, Bill Clinton 8 times, George W . Bush 7 times, and Barack Obama 5 times. That is, whoever the government may be, the debt crisis is not a new thing for America. There is a possibility that due to default, America may be in the grip of recession, GDP may take a 5% dive unemployment may cross all limits with 70 lakh jobs at immediate stake. The situation is that America's debt-to- GDP ratio has reached 120%, which is even higher than during the 2nd World War. Laxmikant Sharma Dausa: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sun- day expressed surprise and was overwhelmed at the huge crowd that gathered to listen to him during a public meeting at Geejgarh in Dausa. Crowd estima- tion analysts are com- paring the crowd with the recent public meet- ing of PM Narendra Modi in Dhanawad. Gehlot inspected the Mehangai Rahat Camps and in his address, the CM repeated many times that he has not seen such a public meet- ing till date. He congrat- ulated Women and Child Development Minister Mamta Bhu- pesh. He was so im- pressed with the meet- ing that on the demand of Mamta Bhupesh, it was announced to up- grade Sikrai to Munici- pality , Paparda to Tehsil and four schools includ- ing Geejgarh to senior level. CM Gehlot once again surrounded the Centre on ERCP and said that this is the life- line of East Rajasthan, yet the Prime Minister is not ready to do any- thing on it. “People of 13 districts of eastern Rajasthan should de- mand answers from BJP MPs and MLAs as to why the Centre is not saying anything on ERCP. If the public will create pressure then definitely PM Modi will have to declare it as a national project,” he said. Ministers Mahendra- jeet Singh Malviya, Pramod Jain Bhaya, PL Meena and GS Dotasra reached the meeting in a helicopter with CM Ashok Gehlot. JPC/004/2022-24 Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur: For the past some time, Rajasthan cadre officials are ea- gerly awaiting central deputation as well as being empanelled, and picked for posting. This is a story of eight IAS officials. The recent issue is of empanelment on the postof AdditionalSecre- tary . After the review meeting, the Appoint- mentCommitteeof Cab- inet, on April 24, took out approval order for IAS of 1995-97 batch for Additional Secretary post. But in this, our three officers - Shikhar Agrawal,DineshKumar and Rajesh Yadav’s names were missing. Among these, it was a surprise for the entire Rajasthan cadre offi- cials that Rajesh Yadav was not considered. RajeshhadgonetoDelhi in March 2022 after be- coming JS. Generally, a JS serving in Delhi for one year is empanelled for the post of Addition- alsecretary ,yetRajesh Yadav was left out. Similarly, Shikhar Agrawal (1993 batch) and Dinesh Kumar (1996 batch) returned to Ra- jasthan cadre after serv- ing at the Centre as DS and JS. Both the offi- cials are eagerly await- ing their empanelment for the post of Addition- al Secretary . Several re- view lists have been re- leased, and yet, even in the latest review list, both the officials have been left. Whereas, their junior IAS of 1995 batch are already working on the post of Additional Secretary . Moreover, capable, meritorious brilliant officer of 2006 batch, Gaurav Goyal’s non-em- panelment has also been considered a surprising and uncommon develop- ment whereas, his batch mate IAS, in other state cadres, have been em- panelled. Now let us talk about posting and appoint- ments. People have not forgotten how long Sud- hansh Pant had to wait for becoming Secretary . 1993 batch IAS Sandeep Verma is awaiting a call from Delhi for the post of Additional Secretary and the state govern- ment has given its NOC nearly six months back. In this time, three lists for appointment on the post of Additional Sec- retary have come, but Sandeep’s name fea- tured in none of them, which is a surprise. Similarly, it has been long time since Praveen Gupta, Ajeetabh Shar- ma and Subeer Kumar were issued NOC for becoming JS, but no one knows the reason why these officials are not being picked. Whereas, Praveen and Ajeetabh’s batches have been freezed because of- ficials junior to them, have become Addition- al Secretary . First India Bureau Jaipur: Chief Minis- ter Ashok Gehlot has voiced concern over the safety of students from the state stranded in violence-hit Ma- nipur. Manipur is witness- ing violent clashes over a move to grant sched- uled tribe status to the majority Metei commu- nity in the state. Naga and Kuki tribes who are opposing this plan or- ganised a ‘Tribal Soli- darity March’ on Wednesday after which the clashes broke out. Gehlot on Saturday said that top officials of his government are in touch with officials in the northeastern state. “The news of some students of Rajasthan being trapped in Ma- nipur violence is wor- rying,” he said in a tweet in Hindi. “The Chief Secretary and the Director Gen- eral of Police of Ra- jasthan are in touch with senior officials there and soon efforts will be made to bring them home safely,” the Chief Minister said. The Chief Minister further added saying, “The State government is engaged in ensuring safe return of students and it will bear the en- tire travel expenses of students coming to Ra- jasthan due to violence in Manipur. Chief Res- ident Commissioner in Delhi and Commis- sioner of Rajasthan Foundation will coor- dinate for students’ safe return.” Raje, 2... Addressing a pro- gramme in Dholpur, Ge- hlot said his govern- ment could be saved be- cause of the support of three BJP leaders, for- mer CM Vasundhara Raje, former assembly speaker Kailash Megh- wal and MLA Shobha- rani Kushwah. “(Union ministers) Amit Shah, GS Shekhawat and Dharmendra Pradhan conspired together to topple my government. They distributed money in Rajasthan and they are not taking the mon- ey back now. I am sur- prised why they are not demanding the money back from them (the MLAs),” he claimed. “I have even told the MLAs that whatever money they have taken, Rs 10 crore or Rs 20 crore, if you have spent any- thing, I will give that part or I will get it from AICC (All India Con- gress Committee),” he said. Gehlot alleged that if the MLAs did not re- turn the money, they will always be under pressure from Amit Shah. “He is the Union home minister, he will intimidate...in Maha- rashtra he divided Shiv Sena,” Gehlot alleged. He said that he was made the Chief Minis- ter by the party for a third time and it was his duty to take all along and forget past happen- ings and ensure the re- turn of the party to power in the assembly elections, slated for later this year. State govt ensuring safe return of Raj students from Manipur: CM FROM P1… Raj govt will bear entire travel expenses of students coming to Raj due to violence in Manipur, he adds Priyanka leaves for K’taka after 2-day stay in R’bore Bhanwar S Charan and Manoj Jain Karauli: CM Ashok Gehlot while address- ing a public meeting at the inflation relief camp at Mandrayal vil- lage in Karauli on Sun- day, said that his gov- ernment is benefiting the people of the state through public welfare schemes and providing relief from rising in- flation. Gehlot said that the government has left no stone unturned in the all-round development of the common man. In the state budget, he said, efforts have been made to provide relief to every areas of the state including Karauli district. Gehlot said that more than 300 new colleges have been opened by the state government in the present tenure. In the camp, the Chief Minister inspect- ed departmental stalls based on public welfare schemes and talked to the beneficiaries and handed over the CM’s Guarantee Card to them. During the Ka- rauli visit, Gehlot also vsited Shaili wale Ha- numan temple par- ticipated in Murti Pran Pratishtha ceremony . CM: Government left no stone unturned in benefiting masses CM PRAISES DHOLPUR COLLECTOR WHY BOHRA, ABRAR OTHERS COULDN’T BE MINS? Dholpur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot patted the back of Dholpur Collector, Anil Agrawal and admired the good work carried out by the district administration in the various inflation relief camps being organised in the dis- trict. Dholpur ranks second in the state in organising the Mehangai Rahat camps.More than 5.35 lakh guarantee cards under various schemes have been distributed in the camps in Dholpur. District Collector is monitoring the progress of inflation relief camps everyday. CM Ashok Gehlot on Sunday expressed his pain over not making ministers those MLAs who saved his gov- ernment. “My govt survived because of 102 people. Rohit Bohra, and Danish mAbrar were entitled to become min- isters. 6 MLAs from BSP and independents were entitled to become ministers. But could not make them ministers due to political reasons,” he said in Dholpur. Out of BSP MLAs, only Rajendra Gudha could become a minister. First India Bureau Kota: The Congress government has allot- ted land to each society for their welfare has excelled in social wel- fare works, said UDH Minister Shanti Dhari- wal during his address in a programme organ- ised at UIT Auditorium on Sunday during the ‘Boy-Girl Introduction Conference’ of Khatik Samaj. The event also witnessed the swear- ing-in ceremony of the new executive and the building construction programme of Girls Hostel. Dhariwal ad- ministered oath to the newly appointed execu- tive committee of the Khatik Samaj. ‘Cong govt excelled in social welfare works’ Shanti Dhariwal greets the people of Khatik community during a programme held at the UIT Auditorium in Kota on Sunday. “CM’s statement... The truth is that he has made such outrageous and untrue al- legations in his fury because of the rebellion happening in his own party and the mass base slipping away,” she said. Raje said that as far as horse-trading is concerned, Ashok Gehlot himself is the mastermind behind it. “He did this in 2008 and 2018 as he was in minority. At that time nei- ther BJP nor Congress got a majority. At that time, if we wanted, we too could have formed the government, but it was against the principles of the BJP. On the contrary, Gehlot formed the government both the times by arranging MLAs through his transactions,” she said. To avoid the historic defeat in 2023 elections, he is creating such fabricated stories, which is unfortunate and this trick of his is not going to be successful.

This research work has also been published in the Indian Jour- nal of Applied Research. Seizures in fever are such a problem that always worries the parents. Febrile convulsions are a com- mon condition that affects young children, typicallybetweentheages of 6monthsand5years.Theyoccur when a child develops a fever, usu- ally as a result of an infection, and the fever triggers a seizure. Febrile convulsions can be frightening for parents to witness but do not cause anylong-termharm.Thechanceof future epilepsy is only 1 to 2%. The problem occurs in 2-5% of children. At the age of six months to five years, seizures with fever are usually present, in this, when children have fever, then the child becomes unconscious along with jerks in the hands and feet. Most of them come at the age of 1-2 years. Apart from hemoglobin in the body , iron is a major component of brain metabolism and many en- zymes. That’s why iron deficiency increases the chances of seizures in children. In the research work, two groups of 80-80 children were made and one group was of chil- dren having seizures with fever and the other group was of chil- dren with fever who did not have seizures. It was found that chil- dren who had seizures were found to be iron deficient.  Children suffer no pain or discomfort during a fit.  A febrile convulsion is not epilepsy. No regular drugs are needed.  A short-lived fit will not cause brain damage. Even a long fit almost never causes harm. Children who have had a febrile convulsion grow up healthy.  If you have concerns or questions, contact your doctor. In an emergency, take your child to the nearest hospital emergency department.  There is a medication called Midazolam that is sometimes recommended for children who have a history of febrile convulsions lasting longer than 5 minutes. Most children do not require this medication. If you would like more information about this treatment, you should talk with your doctor. REASSURANCE FOR PARENTS ABOUT FEBRILE CONVULSIONS MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS The most common symptoms of febrile convulsions include shaking or twitch- ing, loss of consciousness, and some- times, loss of bowel or bladder control. These symptoms usually last for just a few minutes and then subside on their own. Neither anti-seizure medication nor anti-fever medication is recom- mended to prevent further febrile sei- zures. Efforts to rapidly cool the child’s body during a seizure have not been ex- tensively studied but are not recom- mended. The long-term outcome of chil- dren with febrile seizures is generally excellent with similar academic achieve- ments to other children. Febrile convulsions can be scary, but they are generally not serious and do not cause any long-term harm. With proper care and attention, your child should re- cover quickly and be back to their nor- mal self in no time. One in every 20 chil- dren will have one or more febrile convul- sions. A febrile convulsion is not epi- lepsy and does not cause brain damage. Around 30% of babies and children who have had one febrile convulsion will have another. There is no way to predict who will be affected or when this will happen. GENETIC There is evidence that many children with febrile seizures have a genetic pre- disposition to have febrile seizures. If a child with a febrile seizure has an identi- cal twin (monozygotic), the twin is much more likely to also have a febrile seizure than if the twin is non-identical (dizy- gotic). First-degree relatives (mother, father, sibling) of a child with febrile sei- zures have a risk of 10–15% of having a febrile seizure compared with the gen- eral risk in the population of only 3–4%. If your child experiences a febrile convulsion, there are a few things you can do to help:  Stay calm. Although it can be scary to see your child having a seizure, re- member that febrile convulsions are not usually serious and will pass on their own.  Protect your child from injury. Move any objects that your child might bump into out of the way, and gently hold your child to prevent them from fall- ing.  Monitor your child’s breathing. Make sure your child is breathing normally and that their airway is clear.  Take your child’s temperature and give them medication if necessary . If your child’s fever is high, you can give them acetaminophen or ibuprofen to bring it down.  Seek medical attention if necessary. In most cases, febrile convulsions do not require medical treatment. However, you should call your doctor if your child has a prolonged seizure (more than 5 minutes), if they have difficulty breathing, or if they have another seizure soon after the first one. TYPES OF FEBRILE SEIZURES There are two types of febrile seizures: Simple and Complex. Simple febrile seizures involve an otherwise healthy child with a single, one episode of a generalized seizure lasting less than 15 minutes. Complex febrile seizures have one or more of the following: focal symptoms such as jerking of only one side of the body, duration greater than 15 minutes, or two or more seizures within 24 hours. About 60–70% are classified as simple febrile seizures and 30–40% as complex. Dr Govind Chaudhary has done this research work with the help of his guide Dr Yogesh Yadav, Associate Professor, JK Lone Hospital and Head of Department, Dr Ashok Gupta and Dr Shailja Vajpayee and Dr Kavita Yadav, Assistant Professor SMS medical college, Jaipur I It is said that anemia due to iron is a com- mon problem and we can easily get rid of the problem by supplement- ing iron and not only it removes anemia in children but also helps in preventing seizures. If this hap- pens, we should give iron supple- ments to the children and keep checking their iron status from time to time. —DR ASHOK GUPTA, JK Lone Hospital
