ON FRIDAY
An organisation of former
militants had asked Meiteis
living in Mizoram to exer-
cise ‘caution’amid the eth-
nic violence in Manipur.
The statement issued by
PAMRA (Peace Accord
MNF Returnees’Associa-
tion) said it was no longer
safe for Meiteis from Ma-
nipurtoliveinMizoram“in
the wake of barbaric and
heinous acts committed by
miscreants in Manipur”.
WHY WAS SUCH A
WARNING ISSUED?
This warning triggered the
exodus of Meiteis from
Mizoram and Meiteis took
the flight from Aizawl’s
LengpuiAirport to Imphal.
Mizoram houses about a
few thousand Meiteis who
are mostly from Manipur.
Some are even from South
Assam. The horrendous
video of two Kuki women
paraded naked had spread
fresh panic among the
Meitei community living
outside their hometown
Manipur.
Mizoram’s chief minis-
ter Zoramthanga had to
enter the scene and make
an emotional appeal call-
ing for an end to the vio-
lence in Manipur. “The
onset of May witnessed a
brutal, untoward and un-
called-for incident in Ma-
nipur. At this very mo-
ment, 3:30 am, July the
4th, 2023; nothing seems
to have changed. We are
counting, and today is the
62nd day,” the chief minis-
ter said in a long post on
Twitter, accompanied by a
poster of himself that
asked: “When will it stop?”
Calling the Kuki-Zomis
“my Manipuri Zo ethnic
brethren”, CM Zo-
ramthanga said he does not
want to see any more pic-
tures and videos of
“churches being burnt,
brutal killings and violence
of all nature”.
CM Zoramthanga also
urged for “immediate res-
toration of peace and nor-
malcy.” “It is incumbent
and imperative upon those
responsible and law-abid-
ing citizens or entities of
India to look for immedi-
ate ways for peace restora-
tion. Development with a
human touch and Sabka
Saath Sabka Vikas applies
to my Zo ethnic tribes in
Manipur too!”
HOW MANIPUR’S
CRISIS HAS IMPACTED
MIZORAM
The situation and case
study requires some under-
standing. Mizoram’s Miz-
os and Manipur’s Kukis
share a deep-rooted ethnic
bond. The Chin-Kuki-
Mizo tribes come under
the larger “Zo” ethnic cat-
egory or umbrella. In Ma-
nipur, Kuki-Zomis mainly
live in Churachandpur,
Kangpokpi and Pherzawl
districts, with some of
them also living in Teng-
noupal and Chandel.
Quoting professor Jang-
khongam Doungel of the
department of political sci-
ence at Mizoram Univer-
sity, who recently told In-
dian Express: “Historical-
ly, culturally, socially, lin-
guistically, they are all re-
lated.” He said these “Eth-
nic tribes commonly traced
their historical origin to a
mythological cave known
by different names by dif-
ferent tribes”.
“They are known as
Chin when they settle in
the Burmese plains and
Chin became their official
name in Burma (which is
now Myanmar). Those
who moved down to
Lushai Hills (Mizoram)
and Chittagong Hill Tracts
(Bangladesh) from Chin
Hills were known as Kuki
and Kuki became the offi-
cial name in India. The
term ‘Mizo’ began to be
used officially in Lushai
Hills (presently Mizoram)
in 1946. After that, Mizo
began to be used popularly
in Mizoram,” the Mizoram
University professor went
on to inform Indian Ex-
press.
SHARING BORDERS
Apart from the ethnic
bonds, Mizoram’s Aizawl
and Saitual districts also
share a 90 km-long border
with Manipur’s Chura-
chandpur and Pherzawl
districts.

IMPACT OF MANIPUR UNREST ON MIZORAM
Just after the violence took place in Manipur in
May 2023, the Mizoram home department had
issued a statement and had expressed solidarity
with the “Zohnahthlak community”
, or the Kuki-
Chin-Mizo ethnic group. It was the first state to
express “deep concern” about the unrest. As per
reports, more than 12,000 people from Manipur
have escaped to Mizoram since the violence
broke out. While about 2,500-3,000 displaced
individuals are in relief camps set up by the
Mizoram government, the rest are living with
their Mizo kith and kin. Aizawl district is
providing shelter to 4,000 displaced people with
the civil society organisation Young Mizo
Association (YMA) setting up 12 relief camps.

Population of Muslims
in 2023 and their angst
NETANYAHU HAS HIS
WAY ON JUDICIARY
he projected Muslim population in India in
2023 would be about 20 crore, 19.75 crore to
be precise, the Lok Sabha was recently in-
formed. This reflects an increase over the 14.2 percent
of Muslims at the time of 2011 census. The country’s
population is projected to be 138.82 crore in 2023.
Important in Minority Affairs Minister Smriti Ira-
ni’s written reply are the details about the socio-eco-
nomic status of Muslims. The literacy rate among
Muslims aged seven years and above, stands at 77.7
percent while participation in the labour force (for all
ages) is 35.1 percent.
There are grievances among Muslims regarding
discrimination in the job market which forces them
more towards self-employment where they account
for 49 percent compared to 41 percent for Hindus in
2020-21. There is also a difference in their earnings.
While Hindus are believed to earn on an average Rs
16,521 per month, the average monthly income of
Muslims is only Rs 12,473 per month.

rael’s judiciary, which has been proving to
be problematic for him, lost its bite after the
Knesset passed a law that takes away the Supreme
Court’s powers to strike down parliament’s deci-
sions. The process of selecting judges has also been
changed. Israel has been reeling under widespread
protests against the subjugation of the judiciary. Op-
position parties and the people of Israel are of the
opinion that Netanyahu has brought in the changes
to save his own skin. Yasir Lapid, the main opposi-
tion leader, predict-
ed, “We are heading
for disaster.”
Netanyahu is on
trial for three corrup-
tion charges. In the
first case he and his
wife are accused of
accepting gifts from
a Hollywood produc-
er and an Australian
billionaire in lieu of
favours. The second
case pertains to a
deal Netanyahu
struck with Yedioth
Ahronoth, a daily
newspaper in Israel,
for legislative action
against its rival in ex-
change for favoura-
ble coverage of the
prime minister. The
third case is also
about granting fa-
vours to a telecom
company in return
for positive media
coverage on the company’s website.
Netanyahu has pleaded not guilty to the charges of
fraud, breach of trust and corruption. The trial began
in 2020. Netanyahu’s critics fear that the bill passed
on Monday could save him from conviction. The
other part of the bill which allows the government to
have more members on the committee which appoints
judges could also lead to more friendly judges in the
Supreme Courts. Independent judiciary, which is cru-
cial for democracy, is an eyesore for many of the
independently-elected governments.

the ISRO said.
The Chandrayaan-3

The main object of the
mission is to safely land
the lander on the lunar

to make a soft-landing
near the South Pole of
the moon at 5.47 p.m. on

THE ‘INSIDE’ STORY
14 days and counting of ‘Vanvaas’for 3 IAS!
First India Bureau
Jaipur
new ‘problem’
has come to fore
in the Secretari-
at as three Secretaries of
the State government do
not have a room for them
to work from as office.
Secretary LSG Kailash
Chand Meena, JS (Reve-
nue) Balmukund Asawa
and JS (Education) Harsh
Sawan Sukha are roam-
ing for the past 14 days
for rooms. In the July 13
transfer list, these three
officers have come to the
Secretariat from outside,
but no rooms are availa-
ble for them.
Due to this, Secretary
LSG, KC Meena, is
working from the office
of Director, Local Self
Government (DLB)
which is located outside
the Secretariat, in C-
Scheme, as Director
Hridesh Sharma has pro-
vided his room. Whereas,
both JSAsawa and Sukha
are working from home.
Knowledgeable sourc-
es claim that such a short-
age of rooms has never
occurred in the past and
this is also an interesting
development that a Sec-
retary is working from
Directorate and not in
Secretariat.
DoPsources have clar-
ified that half a dozen
rooms have been allotted
to political appointees,
although these appoin-
tees seldom come to their
offices in Secretariat.
Moreover, half a dozen
large rooms previously
allotted to Secretary level
officers are under the
‘grip’ of junior officers.
Owing to their ‘influ-
ence’ these officers have
got these big rooms allot-
ted. Moreover, three
Principal Secretaries, al-
though sit in Corporation
or Directorate, yet have
rooms allotted in Secre-
tariat. Getting a room va-
cated is a difficult task.
Now it remains to be
seen when do these 3
IAS, who have been
roaming for past 14 days,
are allotted their rooms!

one are the
days when
workout at-
tire was sole-
ly reserved
for the gym.
Today, incor-
porating workout fashion
into your daily life has be-
come a trendy and comfort-
able way to express your
personal style while em-
bracing an active lifestyle.
Workout, also known as
exercise or
physical
activity,
is any
planned
and struc-
tured move-
ment of the
body that
aims to im-
prove or
maintain
physical
f i t n e s s
and overall health. Exercise
has its own benefits to one’s
body and mind but the en-
semble that is worn on the
outside can showcase what
you truly are on the inside.
So, let’s dive right into the
ways we can spice up our
fitness fits. First and fore-
most, comfort is the key.
While focusing on fash-
ion, never compromise on
comfort. Opt for workout
clothing made from breath-
able, moisture-wicking fab-
rics that allow freedom of
movement. Look for
stretchy materials that offer
flexibility and support.
When you feel comfortable,
it enhances your confidence
and makes your daily ac-
tivities more enjoyable.
Secondly, sneakers or
shoes. These make a bold
statement whenever it
comes to wrapping up any
outfit. Sneakers have transi-
tioned from being just
workout shoes to fashion-
forward statement pieces.
Invest in a few versatile
pairs that can complement
various outfits. Opt for clas-
sic white sneakers for a
clean and minimalist look
or experiment with bold
colours and patterns to add
a pop of excitement to your
ensemble.
Now, let’s talk about the
trick that can be twitched
whenever and wherever
needed, which is to play
with color schemes and pat-
terns. Don’t be afraid to ex-
periment with vibrant colors
and bold patterns. Mix and
match different pieces to
create eye-catching and en-
ergetic ensembles. Incorpo-
rate patterned leggings,
colour-blocked tops or
statement sports bras to add
flair to your workout-in-
spired looks. Even cycling
shorts with various patterns
can make a declaration
these days. So, go all out
when it comes to creating
any outfit. Just remember,
incorporating workout fash-
ion into your daily life is all
about finding the right bal-
ance between comfort, cre-
ativity and style. So, step
out in elegance and let your
workout fashion be a reflec-
tion of your vibrant and dy-
namic personality.

he beauty and
wellness industry
in India has been
growing at a rap-
id pace over the
past few years.
With increasing awareness about
the importance of self-care, people
are now more interested in invest-
ing in beauty and wellness products
and services. This has led to a surge
in demand for skilled professionals
in the beauty and wellness industry,
which in turn has given rise to the
need for quality education and
training programs in this sector.
The Beauty and Wellness indus-
try of India offers unparalleled po-
tential in terms of employment
generation and overseas place-
ments. Realising the vast opportu-
nity and huge challenge, the gov-
ernment has already initiated sev-
eral initiatives through ‘The Beau-
ty and Wellness Sector Skill Coun-
cil (BWSSC)’ in terms of creat-
ing relevant content and curricula,
information databases, delivery
systems, standardization of accred-
itation and certification process,
setting up industry-aligned infra-
structure etc.
To further develop and nurture
the desired skills ecosystem in the
beauty and wellness sector for eco-
nomic growth and social develop-
ment, the following are the recom-
mendations with an overview of its
future, challenges and solutions.
Some possible ways in which the
future of beauty and wellness edu-
cation in India could shape are:
As the beauty and wellness in-
dustry continues to grow, there is a
greater need for professionals who
possess a diverse range of skills. To
keep up with the changing trends,
educational institutions are likely
to place a greater emphasis on skill-
based education. This could mean
that students will be exposed to a
wider range of practical training
methods, such as hands-on intern-
ships and apprenticeships. In addi-
tion, collaborations with industry
experts may become more com-
mon, allowing students to learn
directly from those who are already
established in the field. Further-
more, the use of advanced technol-
ogy and equipment is also likely to
play a larger role in beauty and
wellness education programs.
Integration of digital learning:
The COVID-19 pandemic has ac-
celerated the shift towards online
learning, and beauty and wellness
education is no exception. In the
future, we could see more online
courses, webinars, and virtual
classrooms being offered to stu-
dents. This could make education
more accessible and flexible, while
also allowing for greater collabora-
tion and interaction between stu-
dents and teachers.
Emphasis on sustainability and
ethical practices:As consumers be-
come more conscious of their im-
pact on the environment and soci-
ety, there is likely to be a greater
emphasis on sustainability and
ethical practices in the beauty and
wellness industry.
CHALLENGES IN
BEAUTY WELLNESS
EDUCATION IN INDIA
Lack of
standardization
One of the biggest
challenges in beauty
and wellness educa-
tion in India is the
lack of standardiza-
tion in the curricu-
lum. This leads to a
variation in the qual-
ity of education pro-
vided across different
institutes.
Limited
resources
Another challenge
faced by the in-
dustry is the lim-
ited resources
available for
training. Many
institutes do not
have access to the
latest technology
and equipment,
which can hinder the
quality of education
provided.
Perception of the industry
The beauty and wellness industry
is often viewed as a low-paying
and low-status career option. This
perception needs to change to at-
tract more students to the field and
provide them with better career
prospects.
Lack of skilled trainers
The shortage of skilled trainers is
another challenge faced by the in-
dustry. Many institutes struggle to
find trainers who have the neces-
sary skills and experience to pro-
vide quality education.
To overcome these challenges,
the industry needs to work towards
standardizing the curriculum, pro-
viding better resources for training,
promoting the industry as a viable
career option, and investing in
training programs to produce more
skilled trainers.
SOLUTIONS
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Rationalise course curricula
in the beauty and wellness sec-
tor with more focus towards
industry exposure.As the coun-
try’s beauty and wellness indus-
try is gradually shifting towards
becoming more organised, pro-
fessionals in the sector should be
informed about the need for fol-
lowing professional standards in
their services, seek formal indus-
try-specific qualifications and cer-
tification by respectable organiza-
tions, as well as improve their ex-
isting qualifications through access
to higher education and research.
To provide candidates with hands-
on practical training and make
them employable and future-ready,
the job-related mix of classroom/
lab and workshop/ OJT could be
revisited to 10:20:70 from the cur-
rent 20:60:20 mix for job roles in
the beauty and wellness sector.The
industry’s involvement at this level
will also strengthen the industry-
academia connection and can
move away from the trend of cap-
tive skilling by a few industry play-
ers to the industry’s contribution to
skilling initiatives for the sector at
large. Incorporating an element of
extensive internship/ apprentice-
ship/ OJT opportunities for the
candidates would help them in
gaining work ex-
perience and a practical under-
standing of the work.
The lack of employer-led
apprenticeship standards and
career pathways in the sector
results in lower demand from
organisations to provide in-
ternship opportunities, there-
by barring many students from
availing of this learning oppor-
tunity. Accordingly, academic
pathways should be created for
apprentices, where apprentices
can earn an advanced diploma/
certificate using the credit-based
system in the sector. The credibil-
ity of apprenticeship certificates
should also be enhanced, through
well-established and qualified
third-party assessments. This will
further help in strengthening the
TVET ecosystem within the sec-
tor and making the sector more
aspirational among the country’s
youth.
Enable early introduction
of beauty and wellness courses
in schools
As our current education systems
emphasise knowledge-oriented
training based on rote learning,
rather than practical and experien-
tial learning of what a student
could perform in real life using his/
her mind and hand, it is necessary
to orient our students in school to-
wards vocational education as an
alternative career choice. The ab-
sence of such practical and experi-
ential learning thwarts the process
of innovation, imagination, and
creativity among the learners, leav-
ing the children bereft of any nec-
essary knowledge or skills for what
awaits them in the future – the un-
certain and ever-evolving world of
work. NEP 2020 calls for the inte-
gration of vocational education
with mainstream education.
The aim would be to ex-
pose 50 per cent of the learners in
K12 and PG to vocational skills by
2025 and 100 per cent by 2030. In
this regard, schools can play an im-
portant role in disseminating
awareness about career paths to
students, should they choose to
take up vocational courses.
Entrepreneurship development
and facilitation support for
beauty and wellness industries
Industry interactions have high-
lighted that while more than 50 per
cent of vocational pass-outs in the
beauty and wellness
sector opt for self-
employment, there is also a
noticeable tendency among the
people working in the sector to start
their enterprises as soon as they
have acquired a few years of indus-
try experience. Such entrepreneurs
in the sector would need a vibrant
support system to sustain their
businesses, foster entrepreneur-
ship, and support higher levels of
innovation and employment
generation in the beauty and
wellness industry.While it is
necessary to take many ini-
tiatives in this regard, the
most signifi-
cant first step
is to formal-
ize their
businesses
through appro-
priate registrations to
obtain a legal identity
and link them with
mentors, net-
working plat-
forms and
loans. Gov-
ernments play
a key role in
developing an
enabling reg-
ulatory envi-
ronment to un-
leash the poten-
tial of entrepre-
neurship within
any nation.
By reform-
ing their
policies,
laws and
regulations,
the government
must ensure that entrepreneurial
activities are facilitated by an eco-
system for entrepreneurship educa-
tion and development.
In addition to this, entrepreneur-
ship development in the sector
could be further bolstered by de-
signing an entrepreneurship devel-
opment roadmap with the ethos of
‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan;
which would have elements of
coaching from national and inter-
national practitioners in the sector,
capacity building through relevant
skills training programs, platform
to access market linkages, selection
of right service-mix, customer seg-
mentation techniques, hand-hold-
ing such entrepreneurs in times
of necessity to cope with
vagaries of business,
among many others.
ITIs/ training pro-
viders will be en-

which the insti-
tutes can help

ing and running their
venture/start-up after
their training is over or dur-
ing the training period itself.
Promote Recognition of Prior
Learning(RPL)forinformalwork-
ers in the sector with significant
industry experience
As already highlighted, more than
60 per cent of the workforce in the
beauty and wellness industry of the
country are school dropouts with
minimal or no access to even voca-
tional education. Many of these
work in the unorganised sector,
where, despite possessing the re-
quired skills in varying degrees of
competencies, skill levels are high-
ly underreported.Asignificant pro-
portion of learning for such a work-
force happens on the job, which is
difficult to quantify and certify.
While candidates with industry-
specific skilling and certifications
have been able to gain skill premi-
ums, workers without formal certi-
fication of skills are often deprived
of a wage premium despite equiva-
lent or even better skills standards.

Even today some loyal fans
wish that the duo should have mar-

on wrist is perhaps one of his
most popular tattoos. The said
tattoo was inspired by her Elle mag-

tried to have the face altered. Besides
that Justin also has a rose with a faint

It also seems to be for his former
flame as the Rare Beauty founder
loves roses. Bieber revealed that he
tried to cover up this tattoo by shad-

  • 7. hat hap- pened after the horren- dous video went viral and the political aftermath of it especially in Delhi is well reported across the country and the world and is known to one and all. However, that the ripples of the unrest in Manipur is slowly shifting across oth- er northeastern states is now a matter of grave con- cern and before it escalates into a major issue, it is time to defuse the crisis right away. ON FRIDAY An organisation of former militants had asked Meiteis living in Mizoram to exer- cise ‘caution’amid the eth- nic violence in Manipur. The statement issued by PAMRA (Peace Accord MNF Returnees’Associa- tion) said it was no longer safe for Meiteis from Ma- nipurtoliveinMizoram“in the wake of barbaric and heinous acts committed by miscreants in Manipur”. WHY WAS SUCH A WARNING ISSUED? This warning triggered the exodus of Meiteis from Mizoram and Meiteis took the flight from Aizawl’s LengpuiAirport to Imphal. Mizoram houses about a few thousand Meiteis who are mostly from Manipur. Some are even from South Assam. The horrendous video of two Kuki women paraded naked had spread fresh panic among the Meitei community living outside their hometown Manipur. Mizoram’s chief minis- ter Zoramthanga had to enter the scene and make an emotional appeal call- ing for an end to the vio- lence in Manipur. “The onset of May witnessed a brutal, untoward and un- called-for incident in Ma- nipur. At this very mo- ment, 3:30 am, July the 4th, 2023; nothing seems to have changed. We are counting, and today is the 62nd day,” the chief minis- ter said in a long post on Twitter, accompanied by a poster of himself that asked: “When will it stop?” Calling the Kuki-Zomis “my Manipuri Zo ethnic brethren”, CM Zo- ramthanga said he does not want to see any more pic- tures and videos of “churches being burnt, brutal killings and violence of all nature”. CM Zoramthanga also urged for “immediate res- toration of peace and nor- malcy.” “It is incumbent and imperative upon those responsible and law-abid- ing citizens or entities of India to look for immedi- ate ways for peace restora- tion. Development with a human touch and Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas applies to my Zo ethnic tribes in Manipur too!” HOW MANIPUR’S CRISIS HAS IMPACTED MIZORAM The situation and case study requires some under- standing. Mizoram’s Miz- os and Manipur’s Kukis share a deep-rooted ethnic bond. The Chin-Kuki- Mizo tribes come under the larger “Zo” ethnic cat- egory or umbrella. In Ma- nipur, Kuki-Zomis mainly live in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Pherzawl districts, with some of them also living in Teng- noupal and Chandel. Quoting professor Jang- khongam Doungel of the department of political sci- ence at Mizoram Univer- sity, who recently told In- dian Express: “Historical- ly, culturally, socially, lin- guistically, they are all re- lated.” He said these “Eth- nic tribes commonly traced their historical origin to a mythological cave known by different names by dif- ferent tribes”. “They are known as Chin when they settle in the Burmese plains and Chin became their official name in Burma (which is now Myanmar). Those who moved down to Lushai Hills (Mizoram) and Chittagong Hill Tracts (Bangladesh) from Chin Hills were known as Kuki and Kuki became the offi- cial name in India. The term ‘Mizo’ began to be used officially in Lushai Hills (presently Mizoram) in 1946. After that, Mizo began to be used popularly in Mizoram,” the Mizoram University professor went on to inform Indian Ex- press. SHARING BORDERS Apart from the ethnic bonds, Mizoram’s Aizawl and Saitual districts also share a 90 km-long border with Manipur’s Chura- chandpur and Pherzawl districts. Mizoram now knocks on Centre’s doors: Interestingly, Mizo- ram’s Assembly polls are slated later this year and a hardpressed Mizoram CM Zoramthanga had also mentioned about the crisis in Bangladesh’s Chit- tagong Hill Tracts which led to people entering Mi- zoram. He mentioned this in his letter to PM Modi. On May 23, Zoramthanga wrote to PM Modi asking for Rs 10 crore as immedi- ate relief to take care of these displaced people from Manipur. In June 2023, Mizoram tourism minister Robert Romawia Royte met Union home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and urged him to sanction funds. Seeking Centre’s assis- tance again, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga appealed in the wee hours of 4 July, “The brutal violence in Manipur has resulted in Internally Displaced People to tune of 12,000 in Mizoram. Refugees and/or IDPs from Manipur, Myan- mar and Bangladesh have risen to over 50,000. I wish and pray that Centre, on humanitarian grounds, lend us an immediate help- ing hand.” It is time, Oppn and Union govt joined hands and looked into BIGGER PICTURE of the crisis to soothe the nerves and apply balms to avert another major crisis… MANIPURUNREST’SRIPPLE EFFECTSPREADINGELSEWHERE? IMPACT OF MANIPUR UNREST ON MIZORAM Just after the violence took place in Manipur in May 2023, the Mizoram home department had issued a statement and had expressed solidarity with the “Zohnahthlak community” , or the Kuki- Chin-Mizo ethnic group. It was the first state to express “deep concern” about the unrest. As per reports, more than 12,000 people from Manipur have escaped to Mizoram since the violence broke out. While about 2,500-3,000 displaced individuals are in relief camps set up by the Mizoram government, the rest are living with their Mizo kith and kin. Aizawl district is providing shelter to 4,000 displaced people with the civil society organisation Young Mizo Association (YMA) setting up 12 relief camps. The country’s population is projected to be 138.82 crore in 2023. Important in Minority Affairs Minister Smriti Ira- ni’s written reply are the details about the socio-eco- nomic status of Muslims. The literacy rate among Muslims aged seven years and above, stands at 77.7 percent while participation in the labour force (for all ages) is 35.1 percent. There are grievances among Muslims regarding discrimination in the job market which forces them more towards self-employment where they account for 49 percent compared to 41 percent for Hindus in 2020-21. There is also a difference in their earnings. While Hindus are believed to earn on an average Rs 16,521 per month, the average monthly income of Muslims is only Rs 12,473 per month. The process of selecting judges has also been changed. Israel has been reeling under widespread protests against the subjugation of the judiciary. Op- position parties and the people of Israel are of the opinion that Netanyahu has brought in the changes to save his own skin. Yasir Lapid, the main opposi- tion leader, predict- ed, “We are heading for disaster.” Netanyahu is on trial for three corrup- tion charges. In the first case he and his wife are accused of accepting gifts from a Hollywood produc- er and an Australian billionaire in lieu of favours. The second case pertains to a deal Netanyahu struck with Yedioth Ahronoth, a daily newspaper in Israel, for legislative action against its rival in ex- change for favoura- ble coverage of the prime minister. The third case is also about granting fa- vours to a telecom company in return for positive media coverage on the company’s website. Netanyahu has pleaded not guilty to the charges of fraud, breach of trust and corruption. The trial began in 2020. Netanyahu’s critics fear that the bill passed on Monday could save him from conviction. The other part of the bill which allows the government to have more members on the committee which appoints judges could also lead to more friendly judges in the Supreme Courts. • 9. THE ‘INSIDE’ STORY 14 days and counting of ‘Vanvaas’for 3 IAS! First India Bureau Jaipur new ‘problem’ has come to fore in the Secretari- at as three Secretaries of the State government do not have a room for them to work from as office. Secretary LSG Kailash Chand Meena, JS (Reve- nue) Balmukund Asawa and JS (Education) Harsh Sawan Sukha are roam- ing for the past 14 days for rooms. In the July 13 transfer list, these three officers have come to the Secretariat from outside, but no rooms are availa- ble for them. Due to this, Secretary LSG, KC Meena, is working from the office of Director, Local Self Government (DLB) which is located outside the Secretariat, in C- Scheme, as Director Hridesh Sharma has pro- vided his room. Whereas, both JSAsawa and Sukha are working from home. Knowledgeable sourc- es claim that such a short- age of rooms has never occurred in the past and this is also an interesting development that a Sec- retary is working from Directorate and not in Secretariat. DoPsources have clar- ified that half a dozen rooms have been allotted to political appointees, although these appoin- tees seldom come to their offices in Secretariat. Moreover, half a dozen large rooms previously allotted to Secretary level officers are under the ‘grip’ of junior officers. Owing to their ‘influ- ence’ these officers have got these big rooms allot- ted. Moreover, three Principal Secretaries, al- though sit in Corporation or Directorate, yet have rooms allotted in Secre- tariat. Getting a room va- cated is a difficult task. Now it remains to be seen when do these 3 IAS, who have been roaming for past 14 days, are allotted their rooms! Today, incor- porating workout fashion into your daily life has be- come a trendy and comfort- able way to express your personal style while em- bracing an active lifestyle. Workout, also known as exercise or physical activity, is any planned and struc- tured move- ment of the body that aims to im- prove or maintain physical f i t n e s s and overall health. Exercise has its own benefits to one’s body and mind but the en- semble that is worn on the outside can showcase what you truly are on the inside. So, let’s dive right into the ways we can spice up our fitness fits. First and fore- most, comfort is the key. While focusing on fash- ion, never compromise on comfort. Opt for workout clothing made from breath- able, moisture-wicking fab- rics that allow freedom of movement. Look for stretchy materials that offer flexibility and support. When you feel comfortable, it enhances your confidence and makes your daily ac- tivities more enjoyable. Secondly, sneakers or shoes. These make a bold statement whenever it comes to wrapping up any outfit. Sneakers have transi- tioned from being just workout shoes to fashion- forward statement pieces. Invest in a few versatile pairs that can complement various outfits. Opt for clas- sic white sneakers for a clean and minimalist look or experiment with bold colours and patterns to add a pop of excitement to your ensemble. Now, let’s talk about the trick that can be twitched whenever and wherever needed, which is to play with color schemes and pat- terns. Don’t be afraid to ex- periment with vibrant colors and bold patterns. Mix and match different pieces to create eye-catching and en- ergetic ensembles. Incorpo- rate patterned leggings, colour-blocked tops or statement sports bras to add flair to your workout-in- spired looks. Even cycling shorts with various patterns can make a declaration these days. So, go all out when it comes to creating any outfit. Just remember, incorporating workout fash- ion into your daily life is all about finding the right bal- ance between comfort, cre- ativity and style. So, step out in elegance and let your workout fashion be a reflec- tion of your vibrant and dy- namic personality. SweatinStyle G Ishita Anand cityfirst@firstindia.co.in
  • 11. he beauty and wellness industry in India has been growing at a rap- id pace over the past few years. With increasing awareness about the importance of self-care, people are now more interested in invest- ing in beauty and wellness products and services. This has led to a surge in demand for skilled professionals in the beauty and wellness industry, which in turn has given rise to the need for quality education and training programs in this sector. The Beauty and Wellness indus- try of India offers unparalleled po- tential in terms of employment generation and overseas place- ments. Realising the vast opportu- nity and huge challenge, the gov- ernment has already initiated sev- eral initiatives through ‘The Beau- ty and Wellness Sector Skill Coun- cil (BWSSC)’ in terms of creat- ing relevant content and curricula, information databases, delivery systems, standardization of accred- itation and certification process, setting up industry-aligned infra- structure etc. To further develop and nurture the desired skills ecosystem in the beauty and wellness sector for eco- nomic growth and social develop- ment, the following are the recom- mendations with an overview of its future, challenges and solutions. Some possible ways in which the future of beauty and wellness edu- cation in India could shape are: As the beauty and wellness in- dustry continues to grow, there is a greater need for professionals who possess a diverse range of skills. To keep up with the changing trends, educational institutions are likely to place a greater emphasis on skill- based education. This could mean that students will be exposed to a wider range of practical training methods, such as hands-on intern- ships and apprenticeships. In addi- tion, collaborations with industry experts may become more com- mon, allowing students to learn directly from those who are already established in the field. Further- more, the use of advanced technol- ogy and equipment is also likely to play a larger role in beauty and wellness education programs. Integration of digital learning: The COVID-19 pandemic has ac- celerated the shift towards online learning, and beauty and wellness education is no exception. In the future, we could see more online courses, webinars, and virtual classrooms being offered to stu- dents. This could make education more accessible and flexible, while also allowing for greater collabora- tion and interaction between stu- dents and teachers. Emphasis on sustainability and ethical practices:As consumers be- come more conscious of their im- pact on the environment and soci- ety, there is likely to be a greater emphasis on sustainability and ethical practices in the beauty and wellness industry. CHALLENGES IN BEAUTY WELLNESS EDUCATION IN INDIA Lack of standardization One of the biggest challenges in beauty and wellness educa- tion in India is the lack of standardiza- tion in the curricu- lum. This leads to a variation in the qual- ity of education pro- vided across different institutes. Limited resources Another challenge faced by the in- dustry is the lim- ited resources available for training. Many institutes do not have access to the latest technology and equipment, which can hinder the quality of education provided. Perception of the industry The beauty and wellness industry is often viewed as a low-paying and low-status career option. This perception needs to change to at- tract more students to the field and provide them with better career prospects. Lack of skilled trainers The shortage of skilled trainers is another challenge faced by the in- dustry. Many institutes struggle to find trainers who have the neces- sary skills and experience to pro- vide quality education. To overcome these challenges, the industry needs to work towards standardizing the curriculum, pro- viding better resources for training, promoting the industry as a viable career option, and investing in training programs to produce more skilled trainers. SOLUTIONS RECOMMENDATIONS: Rationalise course curricula in the beauty and wellness sec- tor with more focus towards industry exposure. As the coun- try’s beauty and wellness indus- try is gradually shifting towards becoming more organised, pro- fessionals in the sector should be informed about the need for fol- lowing professional standards in their services, seek formal indus- try-specific qualifications and cer- tification by respectable organiza- tions, as well as improve their ex- isting qualifications through access to higher education and research. To provide candidates with hands- on practical training and make them employable and future-ready, the job-related mix of classroom/ lab and workshop/ OJT could be revisited to 10:20:70 from the cur- rent 20:60:20 mix for job roles in the beauty and wellness sector. The industry’s involvement at this level will also strengthen the industry- academia connection and can move away from the trend of cap- tive skilling by a few industry play- ers to the industry’s contribution to skilling initiatives for the sector at large. Incorporating an element of extensive internship/ apprentice- ship/ OJT opportunities for the candidates would help them in gaining work ex- perience and a practical under- standing of the work. The lack of employer-led apprenticeship standards and career pathways in the sector results in lower demand from organisations to provide in- ternship opportunities, there- by barring many students from availing of this learning oppor- tunity. Accordingly, academic pathways should be created for apprentices, where apprentices can earn an advanced diploma/ certificate using the credit-based system in the sector. The credibil- ity of apprenticeship certificates should also be enhanced, through well-established and qualified third-party assessments. This will further help in strengthening the TVET ecosystem within the sec- tor and making the sector more aspirational among the country’s youth. Enable early introduction of beauty and wellness courses in schools As our current education systems emphasise knowledge-oriented training based on rote learning, rather than practical and experien- tial learning of what a student could perform in real life using his/ her mind and hand, it is necessary to orient our students in school to- wards vocational education as an alternative career choice. The ab- sence of such practical and experi- ential learning thwarts the process of innovation, imagination, and creativity among the learners, leav- ing the children bereft of any nec- essary knowledge or skills for what awaits them in the future – the un- certain and ever-evolving world of work. NEP 2020 calls for the inte- gration of vocational education with mainstream education. The aim would be to ex- pose 50 per cent of the learners in K12 and PG to vocational skills by 2025 and 100 per cent by 2030. In this regard, schools can play an im- portant role in disseminating awareness about career paths to students, should they choose to take up vocational courses. Entrepreneurship development and facilitation support for beauty and wellness industries Industry interactions have high- lighted that while more than 50 per cent of vocational pass-outs in the beauty and wellness sector opt for self- employment, there is also a noticeable tendency among the people working in the sector to start their enterprises as soon as they have acquired a few years of indus- try experience. Such entrepreneurs in the sector would need a vibrant support system to sustain their businesses, foster entrepreneur- ship, and support higher levels of innovation and employment generation in the beauty and wellness industry. While it is necessary to take many ini- tiatives in this regard, the most signifi- cant first step is to formal- ize their businesses through appro- priate registrations to obtain a legal identity and link them with mentors, net- working plat- forms and loans. Gov- ernments play a key role in developing an enabling reg- ulatory envi- ronment to un- leash the poten- tial of entrepre- neurship within any nation. By reform- ing their policies, laws and regulations, the government must ensure that entrepreneurial activities are facilitated by an eco- system for entrepreneurship educa- tion and development. In addition to this, entrepreneur- ship development in the sector could be further bolstered by de- signing an entrepreneurship devel- opment roadmap with the ethos of ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan; which would have elements of coaching from national and inter- national practitioners in the sector, capacity building through relevant skills training programs, platform to access market linkages, selection of right service-mix, customer seg- mentation techniques, hand-hold- ing such entrepreneurs in times of necessity to cope with vagaries of business, among many others. ITIs/ training pro- viders will be en- couraged to in- troduce Micro- Entrepreneur- ship Develop- ment Pro- g r a m m e s (MEDP)under which the insti- tutes can help such trainees in designing, launch- ing and running their venture/start-up after their training is over or dur- ing the training period itself. Promote Recognition of Prior Learning(RPL)forinformalwork- ers in the sector with significant industry experience As already highlighted, more than 60 per cent of the workforce in the beauty and wellness industry of the country are school dropouts with minimal or no access to even voca- tional education. Many of these work in the unorganised sector, where, despite possessing the re- quired skills in varying degrees of competencies, skill levels are high- ly underreported.Asignificant pro- portion of learning for such a work- force happens on the job, which is difficult to quantify and certify.
