Do everything you possibly
can for those who need
help. If your neighbor needs
something you have, don’t
say, “Come back tomorrow.”
Give it to him immediately.
Give to anyone who asks
you for something. Don’t
refuse to give to anyone
who wants to borrow from
you.
Give to others, and you will
receive. You will be given
much. It will be poured into
your hands—more than you
can hold. You will be given
so much that it will spill into
your lap. The way you give
to others is the way God will
give to you. (Proverbs 3:27-
28, Matthew 5:42, Luke
6:38)
This is the kind of
fasting I want:
...Share your food
with the hungry, and
give shelter to the
homeless. Give
clothes to those who
need them, and do
not hide from
relatives who need
your help. Then your
salvation will come
like the dawn, and
your wounds will
quickly heal. Your
godliness will lead
you forward, and the
glory of the LORD will
protect you from
behind. Then when
you call, the LORD will
answer. ‘Yes, I am
here,’ he will quickly
reply. (Isaiah 58:6-9)
You are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you
can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
You new life should be like this: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient. Don’t be
angry with each other, but forgive each other. If you feel someone has wronged you, forgive them.
Forgive others because the Lord forgave you. (1 Peter 2:9, Colossians 3:12-13)
Peter came to
Jesus and asked,
“Lord, how often
should I forgive
someone who sins
against me? Seven
times?” “No, not
seven times,”
Jesus replied, “but
seventy times
seven!
If you forgive
those who sin
against you, your
heavenly Father
will forgive you.
But if you refuse
to forgive others,
your Father will
not forgive your
sins. (Matthew
18:21,22;
Matthew 6:14-15)
The LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God.
Now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Put on your new
nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. (Micah 6:8, Colossians
3: 8, 10)
God is light, and
there is no darkness
in him at all. If we
are living in the
light, as God is in
the light, then we
have fellowship
with each other,
and the blood of
Jesus, his Son,
cleanses us from all
sin.
You are the light of
the world—like a
city on a hilltop that
cannot be hidden.
Let your good deeds
shine out for all to
see, so that
everyone will praise
your heavenly
Father. (1 John
1:5,7; Matthew
5:14,16)
