The Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds
Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom
of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good
seed in his field.
Parábola del trigo y la maleza
La siguiente es otra historia que contó Jesús:
«El reino del cielo es como un agricultor que
sembró buena semilla en su campo.

But that night as the workers slept, his
enemy came and planted weeds among
the wheat, then slipped away.
Pero aquella noche, mientras los trabajadores
dormían, vino su enemigo, sembró hierbas malas
entre el trigo y se escabulló.

When the crop began to grow and
produce grain, the weeds also grew.
Cuando el cultivo comenzó a crecer y a
producir granos, la maleza también creció.

“The farmer’s workers went to him and said,
‘Sir, the field where you planted that good
seed is full of weeds! Where did they come
from?’
‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer
exclaimed.
»Los empleados del agricultor fueron a hablar
con él y le dijeron: “Señor, el campo donde
usted sembró la buena semilla está lleno de
maleza. ¿De dónde salió?”.
»“¡Eso es obra de un enemigo!”, exclamó el
agricultor.

‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked.
“‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if
you do. Let both grow together until the
harvest.
»“¿Arrancamos la maleza?”, le preguntaron.
»“No—contestó el amo—, si lo hacen,
también arrancarán el trigo. Dejen que
ambas crezcan juntas hasta la cosecha.

Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out
the weeds, tie them into bundles, and
burn them,
Entonces les diré a los cosechadores que
separen la maleza, la aten en manojos y
la quemen,

…and to put the wheat in the barn.’” …y que pongan el trigo en el granero”».

Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, “Please
explain to us the story of the weeds in the field.”
Jesus replied, “The Son of Man is the farmer who plants the good seed.
Luego, Jesús dejó a las multitudes afuera y entró en la casa. Sus discípulos le dijeron: —Por
favor, explícanos la historia de la maleza en el campo.
Jesús respondió: —El Hijo del Hombre es el agricultor que siembra la buena semilla.

The field is the world, and the good seed
represents the people of the Kingdom. The
weeds are the people who belong to the
evil one. The enemy who planted the
weeds among the wheat is the devil.
El campo es el mundo, y la buena semilla
representa a la gente del reino. La maleza
representa a las personas que pertenecen al
maligno. El enemigo que sembró la maleza
entre el trigo es el diablo.

The harvest is the end of the world, and the
harvesters are the angels. Just as the weeds are
sorted out and burned in the fire, so it will be at
the end of the world. The Son of Man will send
his angels, and they will remove from his
Kingdom everything that causes sin and all who
do evil.
La cosecha es el fin del mundo, y los cosechadores
son los ángeles. Tal como se separa la maleza y se
quema en el fuego, así será en el fin del mundo. El
Hijo del Hombre enviará a sus ángeles, y ellos
quitarán del reino todo lo que produzca pecado y
a todos aquellos que hagan lo malo.

Then the righteous will shine like the sun in
their Father’s Kingdom.
Entonces los justos brillarán como el sol en el
reino de su Padre.
