The GLOPACK project
• Project title: Granting society with LOw environmental impact innovative PACKaging
• Project acronym: GLOPACK
• Funding: Horizon 2020 funded research project
• Acting Coordinator: University of Montpellier (Prof. Valerie Guillard)
• Overall goal: to investigate food packaging with no environmental footprint and the ability
to extend the shelf life of food products.
• Number of Partners: 16
• Project duration: 01/06/2018 - 31/05/2021

Main objectives
The project is focusing on 3 food packaging areas:
• biodegradable packaging made from agro-food residues (PHA and fibers)
• active packaging to improve food preservation and shelf life without additives
• Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) systems that use digitally readable including
smartphones food labels monitor in-pack food freshness.
User-friendly decision making software will be designed for food product producers to
select the right packaging solution for their product(s).

Stakeholder’s Platform
Forum for exchanging views with peers and the project partners for networking.
The purpose of the Stakeholder’s Platform (SP)
• To foster an understanding of what is new in sustainable food packaging from technical,
environmental and business concepts / cross-chain valorisation aspects, including
development opportunities and potential applications of innovative bioprocesses and bio-
products.
• To provide guidance to GLOPACK based on the key activities of the members of the SP, to
understand their needs and problems to ensure that the project activities and outcomes
are focused on priority areas and the proposed products and technologies will meet the
expectations of the stakeholders.

Benefits for the Stakeholder’s
Platform members
• Early access to the results of the GLOPACK;
• see examples of innovative food packaging solutions;
• meet with other stakeholders- networking;
• discuss the issues related to sustainable and biodegradable food packaging;
• fine-tune and have influence on developments and implementation of the GLOPACK
project.

Expectations from the SP members
• To provide expert view and feedback on:
✓ on their needs and interest;
✓ specific problems which have to be solved;
✓ necessary skills where you would welcome support;
✓ experiences on utilization of various food packaging.
• Participation in the testing GLOPACK’s solutions and methods.
• Strengthen the GLOPACK network.
• Consultation with project partners.
• Exploring new, innovative application opportunities with GLOPACK partners – example:
applications for digitalization.

Current collaboration with the SP
members
1) Improvement of the EcoBioCAP project’s Food Packaging Decision Support System.
• to develop the commercial version of the tool.
2) Commenting the structure of a Position paper on the use of biodegradable food
packaging to reduce/replace the application of single use plastics.
• They will be invited to comment the content as well.

How to become a member
• SP members will receive early access to the project results therefore they are requested to
sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, which covers confidentiality and intellectual property
issues.
