With the development of information technologies and communication capacity and types of databases are growing, as well as the access of users to information, making retrieval of information in a digital environment complex task. These factors lead to ask whether users are able to meet their information needs efficiently. We conducted a study of seeking behavior of a sample of students from the Graduate UNESP Marília in databases, through systematic observation of the processes of seeks to identify the needs of process optimization planning and operation of the search strategy for effective information retrieval by users. With the support of theoretical relevant to the subject, data were tabulated and analyzed quantitative and qualitatively. As a result, we found several problems that hinder users to leverage the full potential that the databases currently provide for the retrieval of information. It is concluded that studies on the search behavior of users and the knowledge inherent in librarian can contribute to skills development necessary for the informational search and retrieval of information.
