grey our homes are, we
people of flesh and blood
would rather live there
than in any other country,
be it ever so beautiful.

Great blaze of heaven - start from potential of amazing worlds, winnowed down to mundane things\n
Robot as smart home - smart home = interconnected, full of interactive technologies. Built as top down test sites. \n\n
1920 - middle classes: shortage of domestic servants; electrically powered sewing machines, vacuum cleaners etc introduced - one person (woman) can do it. Spring cleaning with electricity!\n
1930 - proportion of people with mains electricity risen. more work actually done - if thing is easier, you’ll do it more often, (clean floors etc). Already technology controls.\n
5. 1960s - more women starting to go out to work. kettles, toasters, cookers, labour saving devices. Central heating/thermostats more commonplace.\n\n
6. 1990s - teleworking - work moves back into the home.\n
Technology will not save us. Smart homes not designed around users: we can be stupid or not have knowledge (we can buy new kettle if it breaks - what if entire house breaks?). Makes very big assumptions about levels of knowledge, and who frames that knowledge. But technology can be stupid - unintuitive, not designed specifcally for us. Toaster might not want to go to office.\n
\nOffice technologies don’t work in home and different dynamics. \n
Multiple users with different needs - already discussed.\n
