2. Introduction:
• Forests cover 31% of the land area on
our planet.
• They produce vital oxygen and
provide home for people and wildlife.
• Many of the world’s threatened and
endangered animals live in the
forests.
• 1.6 billion people live on the benefits
forests give, including food, fresh
water, clothing, traditional medicine,
and shelter.
3. Is the removal of a forest or stand of trees
from land which is then converted to a
non-forest use. Deforestation can involve
conversion of forest land to farms, ranches,
or urban use. The most concentrated
deforestation occurs in tropical rainforests.
Definition:
4. Causes:
1. Clearing land to build houses. Countries resort to
deforestation to cope with the increasing demand of housing
brought about by the growing population.
2. Felling trees for wood. Cutting down trees for timbre is
one of the main causes of deforestation.
3. Agriculture. To provide land for food crops, such as palm
oil, and for rearing cattle.
4. Other land uses; such as mining, industrial projects or
building dams.
5.
6.
7. Effects:
1. Increased soil erosion.
No trees anchoring the fertile soil.
The agricultural plants replacing the forest are unable to
hold the land.
As fertile soil washes away producers move on, clearing
more forests.
2. Disruption of water cycles.
• Trees play a key role in the local water cycle.
• Keep balance between the water on the land & the water
in the air
• Disrupted balance changes the precipitation & rivers flow.
8. Effects:
3. Reduced biodiversity.
• 80% of all species can be found in tropical rainforests.
• Accessible to hunters and poachers.
• Leading to extinction for some endangered species.
4. Economical.
• In southeast Asia deforestation contributed to migration &
social conflicts.
• Destroying sources of medicine.
• Increasing food insecurity.
• Flooding, causing many lives & homes loss.
• In Brazil native villagers are forced to move from their homes
inside the forest.
9. Effects:
5. Climate Change.
• Forests help mitigate carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases emissions.
• When forests are burned they will become carbon
dioxide source.
• Deforestation represent more than 15% of greenhouse
gases emissions.
• Rising temperatures, changed patterns of weather and
increase of extreme weather events.
Unless we change the present system that rewards forest
destruction, forest clearing will put another 200 billion tons
of carbon into the atmosphere in coming decades…

13. Solutions:
1. Implement anti-deforestation policies.
Corporations can implement policies that require suppliers to
operate in a way that doesn’t harm the environment.
2. Minimize paper wastage and encourage recycling.
Corporations are huge paper consumers. They can work
towards paper-free plan through E-mails & soft copies.
3. Reforestation.
Cutting trees should be compensated for by planting
new ones.
14. Solutions:
4. Support organizations that push for de-forestation.
• Governments have the resources to allow anti-deforestation
organizations to get their messageacross and increase their
sphere of influence.
5. Recycling.
• Everybody should be aware of the need to recycle. Instead of
throwing paper away, we can always recycle it or use it for
other purposes.
6. Use recycled products.
• By purchasing recycled products we are encouraging
companies to produce and use more recycled products,
therefore decrease the need for new raw materials.
15. Solutions:
7. Go paperless.
• By using E-mails, soft copies, electronic bills, electronic
advertisement, etc…. We dramatically reduce the paper need.
8. Be conscious of your food choices..
• Cattle grazing is one of the major causes of deforestation. Limiting
our consumption of fast food meat helps limiting deforestation.
9. Educate other for the need to fight deforestation.
• Spread the knowledge and urge others to step in to fight
deforestation.
16. Forest preservation in Bahrain:
Public can now visit and enjoy a view of the mangrove forest
and marine biotype at Tubli Bay, as Bahrain Tourism and
Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) has launched tours to the eco-
tourism spot.
Tubli Bay features a beautiful mix of well-protected green
mangrove forests and Bahrain skyline.
The Tubli Bay is known for it’s unique ecological blend of
mangroves, seagrass and corals. A variety of migratory and
resident birds are also living in the Tubli Bay forest.
17. Conclusion:
• Deforestation is a major harmful change we can
implement upon our own planet. It affects all living
species; limiting their food source, harming their
breathable air, and altering natural habitats. Unless we
all work together as governments, companies,
organizations, and individuals, by all means available to
limit this harmful method, our planet will no longer be
the friendly living place we all know.
