  4. 4. About SOLIDWORKS SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) application SolidWorks Corporation was founded in December 1993 by Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate Jon Hirschtick. SOLIDWORS is published by Dassault Systèmes . According to the publisher, over two million engineers and designers at more than 1.65 lacs companies were using SolidWorks as of 2013.

  7. 7. Editing sketch • Fillet creates a tangent are at the intersection of two sketch elements, trimming away the corner. Fillet • Trim/Extend trims or extends a sketch element. Trim/Extend • Move entities is used for moving any objects or sketch. Move • Convert Entities creates one or more curves in a sketch by projecting an edge, loop, face Convert • Mirror creates copies of sketch elements by are mirroring them around a centrelines. Mirror • Offset Entities creates sketch curves offset from a selected model edge, loop, face, external sketch curve Offset

  9. 9. Features Extrude: Extrude extends the sketched profile of a feature in one or two directions as either a thin feature or a solid feature. An extrude operation can add material to a part. Cut: A cut is a feature which removes material from a part or an assembly. Fillet/Round: Fillet/Round creates a rounded internal or external face on the part. You can fillet all edges of a face, selected sets of faces, selected edges, or edge loops. Chamfer: Chamfer creates a bevelled edge on the selected edges and/or faces. Revolved features: Revolved Boss/Base -material added by rotating the profiles about a centerline Swept Boss/Base - material added by sweeping a profile along the path Lofted: Loft creates a feature by making transitions between profiles. A loft can be a base, boss, cut, or surface.

  12. 12. Assembly Design • An assembly design consists of two or more components assembled together at their respective work positions using parametric relations. • All components are created as separate part documents, and then they are placed and referenced in the assembly as external components.

  17. 17. Benefits of SolidWorks Maximize the productivity of your design and engineering resources to create products better Faster and more cost-effective. Built-in intelligence takes the guess work out of 3D design. Easily manage product data, share designs, automate workflows. Securely share design data across your organization, with clients, and with external partners.
  18. 18. Industry Adoption trend for CAD
  19. 19. Conclusion SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD software is currently the most widely used software by engineers and designers throughout the design development phase. SOLIDWORKS 3D models are transforming ideas into reality with the ability to simulate the concept design through different scenarios and adjust as needed in the design development process. It is now considered to be the best according to industry standards that can be obtained for a wide array of designing. Mechanical Engineering Services and other industrial purposes. This software is utilized to provide some useful and practical designing software that will allow users to visualize as well as create prototypes of a product in realty and quick time .
