2. What does being healthy
mean?
To be healthy means that you:
1. Eat healthy food like fruits and
vegetables
2. Drink plenty of water each day
3. Make healthier choices; apples
instead of fats
4. Turn off the T.V. and computer
and get active
3. Not only when your sick
People believe that they are healthy
when they are not sick. This is not true. You
can be unhealthy and not sick.
4. What to eat?
To be healthy you should eat:
1. Grains/bread
2. Fruits/Vegetables
3. Chicken and Fish/Beans/Meat
4. Dairy
5. Here are some tips for what to
eat:
Eat many different colors of fruits and
vegetables (5-8 fistfuls of fruit)
1 cup is around the size of a baseball (or 2
fists)
1 ounce is about the size of your fist
7. The Food Pyramid

you should eat in
one day.
8. Grains
Eat about
3-5 ounces
of grains in
one day.
Remember

ounce is

The serving size of
grain are:
1 slice of
bread

-Try to choose
wheat bread
instead of

1 cup of
cereal – a
fist or tennis
ball
½ cup of pasta –
a rounded

Nuts
Eat around 3
ounces of
meat/beans/
fish or nuts in
a day.

3 ounces of

fist or tennis ball
1 cup of broccoli – baseball

You should
drink/eat 2
cups of dairy
each day

1 ounce of cheese – size of

1 cup of ice cream – size

18. What should you be drinking?
To be healthy you need to drink:
Milk- 2 glasses of milk each day to
strengthen your bones
Fruit juice- pure fruit juice; no sugar
Water – 8 glasses of water daily to stay
hydrated throughout the day
You should not drink soda which
contains too much sugar and caffeine
for your body
19. Exercise
Being active is also very
important to staying healthy.
You should exercise between
30 minutes – 1hour daily.
It could mean that you go
outside to play your favorite
game with friends
Or go the park/ ride your bike
Do some of the following
stretches!
20. Stretching Time!
1. Kneel with both feet pressed together and knees
apart. Have the arms along the body with palms
facing up. While keeping back straight, bend over
slowly and try to touch your forehead to the ground.
Hold for 10 seconds.
