We’re just like you—greatists too!
“You don’t need six-pack abs to be happy. And sometimes getting them
can make you less happy than when you started.”
- DEREK FLANZRAICH, I Got Six-Pack Abs in Six Weeks. Here’s
How I Feel One Year Later
“Instead of feeling strong, I felt weak. Instead of feeling like I was in
the best shape of my life (which I was), I felt broken.”
- LAURA SCHWECHERL, Why I Ran a Marathon, Qualified for
Boston, and May Never Race Again
“I used to use exercise as an easy way out. I believed that if I ran
enough, I would eventually get the body I always wanted, which would
help me meet the next great guy, and ultimately make me happier.”
- TARA FULLER, My Addiction to Exercise Permanently Damaged
My Body. But It Also Taught Me How to Love Myself
WE LIVE THE
AND WE HAVE
don’t take health
Greatist HQ is more than just an office.
Greatist is a place for growth, both
professional and personal. That’s why we
have regular happiness audits, efficiency
check-ins, performance reviews, team
retreats, and afternoon ice cream breaks.
We have meeting rooms called “Gin” and
“Whiskey” (don’t you?) and a “Cave of
Wonders” where people can meditate, nap,
or simply find some quiet time.
We get more delicious (and mostly healthy)
food and snacks than we know what to do
with. Please come eat some. We even do a
Thanksgriving dinner every year (though it’s
too bad we can’t do it every day).
And each week we write down our “small
wins” on Jenga blocks—a reminder that
the small stuff really adds up.
A typical day at Greatist includes a standing morning meeting,
3pm plank challenges, and Disney singalongs. Let it gooo!
There’s no vacation policy and no set “work hours.” Our schedule
overall is ultra-flexible, so your hours are truly your own.
Working out during the work day is encouraged big time (as are
power naps, walks, or whatever else you need). Sometimes we do
fitness outings called “gractivities” as a team!
But seriously, we put “GR” in front of everything: grappy hours, the
grounge, grutorials, and grocktails. Our welcome mat even says
“GRELCOME,” but you’ll have to see it to believe it.
The team at Greatist is special. We are:
hard f*cking working
all on the same team
On day zero, Greatist’s culture was simply a vision. It’s taken
a team of incredible people to mold that dream into a living,
breathing force that drives our mission.
AND WE’RE greatists.
We challenge and push each other to be better. We take a positive approach
to the hard stuff when it comes to achieving what healthy is to each and every
one of us.
A TEAM THAT
tuesday leg day
Greatist is different. We believe people deserve a brand and a
business that’s truly on their side. And we know the only way to
achieve this is by never compromising the quality of our content,
products, message, or anything we put our name on. We don’t
compromise those standards—the world deserves better.
At Greatist, we expect greatness from each other. We recognize
the only way an organization can grow and improve is through
creativity, dedication, innovation, and hard work.
“Just F***ing Do It” is our motto. We push ourselves to be the
best and we motivate others to do the same.
At Greatist, we’re all on the same team. That’s why we’re
transparent, open, and honest about everything we do. We over-
communicate and always give each other the benefit of the doubt.
We’re all learning, and we’re all pushing toward the same ultimate
goal: helping the world think of “healthy” in a healthier way.
Greatist is fun. We value being goofy, spontaneous, and silly.
Sometimes we sing aloud. Sometimes in foreign accents. If you’re
here, you’re still a kid at heart and believe nothing is too crazy
Be a greatist. We live the life we champion because Greatist isn’t
just a job, it’s a lifestyle. We work to become fitter, healthier, and
happier in a relatable and engaging way. And just like our readers,
we struggle with challenges along the way. It isn’t easy for us
either, but we try our best to make one better choice at a time.
IS TO BUILD THE DEFINING
BRAND AND BUSINESS.
In addition to our amazing content, we
want to provide people with the right
tools, apps, programs, gear, gyms, theme
parks (!), and more to help people make
healthier choices. Our site is just the
beginning. And only with a special culture
filled with smart and passionate people
will we—and we will—achieve success.
