Srila Prabhupada’s lecture
SB 6.1.10 (Los Angeles, June 23, 1975)
84. Can a Scientist Believe in GOD? Path of Perfection
krte yad dhyayato visnum [SB 12.3.52]. Krte
mean in the Satya-yuga, when man
used to live for one hundred thousands
of years. Just like Valmiki Muni, he
underwent meditation for sixty
thousands of years, and he attained
success. So it was possible, krte, in the
Satya-yuga. Satya-yuga was the first,
beginning of millennium.
85. Can a Scientist Believe in GOD? Path of Perfection
Satya-yuga exists for eighteen
hundred thousand years, and then
Treta-yuga, for twelve hundred
thousand years, then Dvapara-yuga,
eight hundred thousands of years. Now
it is Kali-yuga, it is four hundred
thousands of years. And the duration of
life in Satya-yuga was one hundred
thousands of years, and in the Treta-
yuga it was ten thousands of years.
86. Can a Scientist Believe in GOD? Path of Perfection
And in the Dvapara-yuga one thousand
years. And now it is one hundred. That
is also not all. So this age is not suitable
for yogic meditation. That is not
possible. Therefore sastra gives us
instruction that "Self-realization which
was possible in the Satya-yuga by
meditation, the same thing was made
possible in the Treta-yuga," krte yad
dhyayato visnum tretayam yajato makhaih, "
87. Can a Scientist Believe in GOD? Path of Perfection
by performing big, big sacrifices." That is
Treta-yuga. And Krte yad dhyayato visnum
tretayam yajato makhaih, dvapare paricaryayam:
"In Dvapara-yuga by worshiping the Deity."
Therefore in India you will find so many
temples, because this is coming from
Dvapara-yuga. So kalau tad dhari-kirtanat.
In this age, Kali-yuga, the age of quarrel
and fight and misunderstanding -- this is
called Kali-yuga -- in this age this is the
only means: hari-kirtanat.
88. Can a Scientist Believe in GOD? Path of Perfection
The sankirtana movement is hari-kirtana.
Hari-kirtana... Kirtana means chanting
about the glorification of the Lord, hari-
kirtana. And this is also confirmed in the
Srimad-Bhagavatam:
kaler dosa-nidhe rajan
asti hy eko mahan gunah
kirtanad eva krsnasya
mukta-sangah param vrajet
[SB 12.3.51]
89. Can a Scientist Believe in GOD? Path of Perfection
So those who are intelligent, they catch
up this easy method of self-realization.
The more you chant, then the cleansing
process of the heart goes on very nicely.
Ceto-darpana-marjanam. This is
recommended. This is the first, because
our spiritual life does not begin unless
ceto-darpana-marjanam, unless the mirror of
the heart is cleansed. But this is the
easiest process.
90. Can a Scientist Believe in GOD? Path of Perfection
If you chant Hare Krishna maha-mantra
in ecstasy, the first benefit will be that
your heart will be cleansed. Then you
can see what is your position, what you
are, what is your business.

Editor's Notes
To man / control one satellite, scientist are working round the clock 24/7
A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said, “I don’t believe that God exists.” Why do you say that,” asked the customer.
“Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn’t exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can’t imagine a loving God who would allow all these things.”
The customer thought for a moment but didn’t respond because He didn’t want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just as he left the barber shop he saw a man in the street with long, string, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkept. The customer turned back and entered the barbershop again and he said to the barber, “You know what? Barbers do not exist.”
How can you say that,” asked the surprised barber. “I am here, I am a barber and I just worked on you!” “No!” the customer exclaimed. “Barbers don’t exist because if they did there would be no people with long dirty hair and untrimmed beards like that man outside.” “Ah, but barbers do exists! What happens is people don’t come to me.”
“Exactly,” affirmed the customer. “That’s the point! God, too, does exist! What happens is people do not go to Him or look for Him. That’s why there’s so much pain and suffering in the world.”
