TURNS AS SMART
CONNECT ROOM
CONTROLS
Dial in and focus, please. Ideaworks
has created Turn, a new generation
of smart connected room controls.
-
face, intuitive rotary control and
clean design provides luxury and
Turn is unique. A beautifully curved
glass display, centered around a
weighted rotating ring. Every
element of Turn has been designed
to create an incredible user
experience. Crafted from 6000 series
aluminum alloy, the knurled tactile
feel allows you to adjust your
surroundings like never before.
Turn is so intuitive that it takes very
little learning. Instinctively you will
reach for a doorknob or a dimmer
switch, knowing which way to turn
it. Lights on, lights off, temperature
up, temperature down, blinds close,
blinds open. Expect intensity to be
varied by which the speed of the
device is turned. Fine adjustments
are achieved by turning slowly.
Moving between functions is simple;
just swipe across the screen in order
to select an application to manage.
Don’t be fooled by the elegant
exterior, Turn is truly a connected
device. Featuring an A9 dual core
chip, high-resolution multi-touch
display and, supporting wireless
technologies such as Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth 4.0.
VERY LITTLE ACOUSTICS SPEAKERS FOR A
360° SOUND SURROUNDING
So, as I understand it, Videoworks is
able to achieve the most demanding
audiophile’s needs, with 360°
sound surrounding the listener in a
unique virtual experience. Very little
acoustics speakers, by Revolution
Acoustics, represents a true audio
innovation.
Now listen closely. The following
information is to be handled
with special care. The SSP6™
Multiducer™ can turn all surfaces
for which they are installed in into
invisible sound walls. These power-
ful compact speakers can be quickly
installed and embedded into glass,
wood or aluminum, making the
material itself transmit as an
acoustic surface.
To obtain even higher surface rever-
beration results, Videoworks offers
an exclusively developed DSP board.
The DSP board is a result of “digital
room correction”, a mathematic
algorithm called “Percept”, which
has been realized through a direct
collaboration with the Università
Politecnica delle Marche. The board
is pivotal for the equalization of
repeatable and stable sound results.
“Percept” realizes a “digital room
correction” by making crucial
decisions, based on the result of the
signal nature. In this way, it reduces
all the factors that can negatively
surfaces, resonances and
asymmetries. Such interactive
space saving. But more importantly
and while hiding the product is
captivating-ergonomic sound will
use acoustic propagation physics as
a medium for true artistic expression
of technology.
RIGHT NOW,
PAY ATTENTION.
Othat the Internet of Things (IoT)
has an approved charted course
within the Superyacht market.
As there are more smart devices
connected to the Internet than there
are humans on planet earth,
I’m being somewhat successful
in my approach.
Recently developed IT solutions
and devices undoubtedly create
extraordinary potential for existing
Superyacht businesses, giving sight
to entirely new marine markets.
Putting it mildly, the predicted
annual economic global impact has
been estimated to be more than
10 trillion Euros. Remember, as your
Quartermaster, I never joke about
my work. This prospect comes
with an integer of engineering
challenges, most extraordinarily the
collective complexity of advanced
product requirements, regulation
and a stern operating environment.
It’s our future, and so we will just
have to get used to it. Good luck out
please return the equipment in one
piece.
REVOLUTIONARY TECHNOLOGY FOR
SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS
Don’t thank me, resourcefulness
is credited to e3 Systems and
Kymeta® who will demonstrate
Kymeta’s mTenna® technology. The
Kymeta antenna uses revolutionary
new, innovative software-enabled
meta-materials-based electronic
beam-forming technology for
satellite communications. This
technology will be used for land-
based satellite tracking antennas,
satellite antennas on any mobile
vehicle from yachts to trains to cars,
and on satellites to make connec-
tions between orbiting spacecraft.
By 2020 the future generation of
low earth orbit (LEO) satellites
will have been standardized,
providing ultra-high bandwidth
with very low latency. These tech-
nological marvels are small and
reliable tracking antennas that
will fundamentally change the
way Superyachts are ultimately
designed.
For many years, the yacht sky-
line has been painted with white
satellite domes mounted in the
rigging of sailboats and on the
masts of Superyachts. However,
this is all about to change, as e3’s
implementation of Kymeta mTenna
will replace such unsightly domes.
These revolutionary new sat-
ellite antennas are set to not
only improve the look of today’s
Superyachts, but also expand their
performance and reliability by
in supporting satellite connectivity
to places never reached before.
Systems specializes in HYBRID
data communications.

I have always tried to teach a few
things and software awareness in
one of them. Such as it is, Radio
Zeeland DMP software is written
in C++ and compiled into micro-
-
ware is extremely stabile and virtually
real time for a non-PC environment.
Windows application software on
PC-based platforms can be more
visually appealing and is therefore
used for man-machine-interface
visualizations as conning systems,
alarm monitoring and control
applications.
The Vessel Monitoring Alarms and
Control System (VMACS) is the
acquisition for custom systems.
Radio Zeeland’s acquisition back-
bone is VMACS, with a redundant
Ethernet ring as a dedicated
communication link. All intelligent
VMACS junction boxes are fully
self-supporting and continuously
broadcast information. All work-
stations, panels and remote
monitoring displays are able to use
that information for visualization
and to command any junction box.
The result is the ultimate
redundancy and fault-tolerant
system.
Handling electrical signals and
converting them to information,
can be handled by the system and
vice versa, is the task performed by
the VMACS acquisition level.
This data acquisition level can be
divided in two ranges of VMACS
units, namely the single board and
the multi-board. The multi-board
VMACS consist of an intelligent
junction box equipped with I/O
boards and converters.
Radio Zeeland DMP B.V. offers a
vast range of boards, making the

UNDERWATER VISUALISATION SYSTEM
Hmm, imaginative and highly
specialized. FarSounder sonars give
captains a real-time underwater view
of what is ahead of the superyacht at
(currently 1,000 meters). Recently,
an integration partnership with
Wärtsilä SAM Electronics and the
a sonar display integrated directly
inside the NACOS Platinum Bridge
System has been achieved.
This follows another success by
combining a sonar displays within
the Transas Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS.
Additional assimilations within other
major ECDIS/IBS systems are soon
expected. Being experts in 3D FLS
technology, integrating virtual touch
panels and IoTs allow designers to
create elegant custom bridge layouts
with streamlined human interfaces.
FarSounder will provide superyachts
the ability to reduce their overall
environmental impact by providing a
solution in underwater visualization.
LIVING TECHNOLOGY
Oh, pipe down. Van Berge
Henegouwen, (VBH), is the leader
in the design and delivery of Living
Technology. This term refers to all
the high-tech equipment and
life on board a superyacht.
VBH designs and installs the
integrated audio-visual, IT and
automation systems that play such
an important role in the modern
superyacht experience.
Recently VBH and their in-house
design team LuxperienceLab
beacons placed within overhead
ceiling, linking to an innovative
Pivot control app that receives
Follow Me signals which are
activated by the owner and guests.
This allows streaming AV entertain-
ment to automatically switch from
one room to the next as the user
moves around the yacht.
LuxperienceLab has also devised
a neat solution to improve the
response times of the crew to
service calls from owner and guests.
To achieve this, VBH has adapted
the Pivot app to operate on Apple
watches issued to crew. This enables
them to discreetly receive and
acknowledge steward calls and other
alerts issued via the VBH Pivot app.
And by linking the crew to a
coordinated network in this way,
when a crew member indicates via
their watch that they are on their way,
all the other crew instantly know that
the guest is being taken care of and
can continue with their duties
without interruption. It’s fast and
discreet, and the casual observer
wouldn’t even know it was
happening.

TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS
If you’ll be good enough to listen,
I’ll have you know ABB is developing
cutting-edge superyacht information
technology solutions. ABB’s marine
Integrated Operations concept
utilizes the Internet of Things,
Services and People (IoTSP).
This highly intelligent system
connects Superyachts, their owners,
technical headquarters and ABB’s
support departments. ABB opened
an Integrated Operations Center last
year in Norway and a second
opening in Helsinki, Finland,
to focus on the Azipod propulsion
and passenger vessel segment.
The new facility is taking the support
for ships from the shore side to the
next level, bringing great cost and
paving the way for more autonomous
superyacht operations. Sensors
and software onboard the ship
send equipment and performance
data via satellite link, which allows
ship owners, in collaboration with
ABB’s experts, to perform remote
troubleshooting and make informed
judgements about the ship’s perfor-
mance and maintenance plan. With
Integrated Operations, ship owners
can implement a way of working that
potentially saves up to 50 percent on
dry docking costs on ABB equipment
if monitoring, pre-survey and project
execution are managed in close
cooperation between ABB and the
ship owner.
For over a decade now, ABB has
been working to develop and
enhance process control systems,
communications solutions, sensors
and software for the IoTSP. These
technologies enable Superyacht
clients to analyze their data more
intelligently, optimize operations,
ABB is advancing the IoTSP by
helping Superyachts clients develop
their existing technologies, while
keeping sight of enduring
commitment to safety, reliability,
cyber security and data privacy.
Now this I’m particularly proud of:
superyachts that need more band-
width for purposes from business
to entertainment there is the CELL-
Weaver. The roll-out of 4G (LTE)
mobile networks does hold out the
promise of up to 100 Mbit/s of data,
but actual speeds are likely to be
lower, even more so with 3G. The
compact, rack mounted unit takes
four SIM cards and combines their
data streams into one reliable and
secure ultra-high bandwidth.
Realistic average speed of 160 MBit/s
plus in 4G (LTE) areas and
40 MBit/s plus where there is 3G.
CELLweaver supports streaming-
based entertainment, interactive
and cloud-based
services that require not only fast
downloads but particularly fast
uploads.
CELLweaver also speeds up many
processes “behind the scenes”,
such as when crew members need
management purposes. Technology
works up to seven nautical miles
offshore, and even up to 25 nautical
miles with the optional CELLweaver
range extenders. Developed
especially with high-intensity
marine usage in mind.

MONITORING YOUR
YACHT’S PERFORMANCE,
SAFETY AND CONTROL
Oh, yes. Now see here:
For intelligent data management and
security purposes, Tijssen Elektro
has developed an MPA alarm and
monitoring system that gives access
to on-board information about your
yacht. Your yacht shouldn’t be
without such a system, because it
makes the life of captain and crew
much easier. MPA makes it possible
to closely monitor the yacht’s
performance, safety and
control over almost all the
electrical systems.
The components of the MPA system
are spread throughout the yacht with
two main areas: the main panel in the
engine room / control room and at
the dashboard in the wheelhouse.
All these components are connected
to a local network area (MPA
network) but also completely
separated from the ships LAN
network. Through tablet-based IT
application software solutions,
the MPA can even be continuously
monitored in real-time and from
anywhere there is a secure
connection to the internet.
INTEGRATED CONTROL VIA
A SINGLE TOUCH SCREEN INTERFACE
May I remind you, as a perfectly
feasible data management
solution, Cobham’s SAILOR GNSS /
DGNSS are vital components for
vessels’ primary navigation
systems. In order for me to track
your movements, Cobham will
provide highly accurate satellite
positioning data for a wide variety
of applications, including ECDIS
(Electronic Chart Display and
Information System) and INS
(Integrated Navigation System).
SAILOR GNSS / DGNSS and SAILOR
AIS deliver reliability and accuracy
as standalone products. Together
though, a navigation portfolio intro-
duces something entirely new for the
maritime industry; integrated control
via a single touch screen interface.
Cobham calls it, the SAILOR
‘Multi-Function Universe’.
This ‘integrated’ approach allows
crews and service engineers to
operate and access a range of
SAILOR products from the same
touch screen interface (the SAILOR
6004 control panel), which can
bridge, while also saving time and
cost in equipment maintenance.
