Data entry is boring. Developing web forms is tedious and can be complicated. As AJAX heavy applications have become the standard of today’s web developers have relied on many third party plugins and libraries to add client-side value to data entry forms. Modern browsers implement many of these features natively, in many cases eliminating the need to load and maintain an application against a third party library. In this session I will review new input types, attributes, styling and validation techniques that should make you forget those third party libraries for your next project.

Joomla is very flexible and has many possibilities. A disadvantage is that working with Joomla can seem complex because of all the settings and navigation choices. For a Joomla specialist this is usually not an issue, but for many end users it can be a stumbling block. However, with a little effort you can make a Joomla website more user-friendly for the end user. In this presentation, Sander will share 10 tips, from easy to more complex ones, to improve the usability of your Joomla website. And, as a bonus, a practical example that you can use in your own projects.

Many startups and open source projects have the luxury of starting greenfield projects. Unfortunately, the corporate world rarely works this way. It's more maintenance coding and a few new features every now and then. This session covers how you can use three of the hottest technologies (HTML5, CSS3 and Bootstrap) to spruce up a legacy application. It describes a real-world situation where a redesign was implemented in a few short weeks, making an old site look brand new. It also does a deep dive into Bootstrap, explains LESS, and shows pitfalls with older browsers. After this session, you'll be motivated to integrate Bootstrap into your applications and turn that legacy UI into something sexy! See blog post about this presentation at http://raibledesigns.com/rd/entry/my_bootstrap_presentation_from_html5.

In this talk jQuery Project Team member, Johnathan Sharp, sets out to answer four main questions: Where'd jQuery Come from?, Why is it so popular? How has it changed development? How will it drive innovation? **see the video at http://marakana.com/f/211 ** In the scope of his talk Johnathan also touches on: - What jQuery is not - Core concepts to understand before jumping into jQuery (CSS & Selectors, DOM, Events, JavaScript patterns, etc) - jQuery core, and jQuery project plugins - The larger jQuery Project including the jQuery core, jQuery UI, and jQuery mobile - jQuery going forward (HTML5, mobile browser support, official Plugins, growing corporate support services) Finally, Johnathan will dig deep into a few code demos to illustrate some of the core concepts of jQuery, like events, JavaScript patterns, and making Ajax requests.
