The Dreaded English Class
The dreaded English 102. Could this be my final English course in my career as a student? I don't
know for sure. I still need to decide what my major will be in. There is something that I know for
sure, that is, needing to take this class to move on. I am not certain how my time in this class will
go, but I plan to work hard to get the best grade that I can. Hence, I have decided to get this out of
the way now, I look to fine–tune my writing skills, and I expect this course to help me understand
my writing style. To start, I chose this class because I knew that eventually I would need to
complete it. What better time to do it, than right now? I had recently completed a math course
this past semester, so I did not want to take another stressful class that I find to not be my
strongest subject right after. My brother and some friends have mentioned that this course isn't as

a part time student and working full time is a lot to balance on ones plate. I have learned that
from experience. I formally was a full time student and worked part time, but the roles tend to

For me, learning a language is a complicated process. It is different from learning other subjects. It
involves a lot of practices and follow up. When I talk about my personal experience, I would say
that I have a rich experience in learning English as a second language. English was taught to me for

I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was

Upon entering English 111 on–line class, I had not taken an English class on–line before. In the past
I have taken several other basic classes. English has always been a struggle for me, mainly writing
and grammar. Neither, writing or grammar has come natural to me. The biggest challenge for me is

Currently I am employed full time, and also hold a part time position along with being a wife, and

Did you know that 92 percent of all English students end up passing the class, but that only 84
percent of choir students pass English class? In elementary school, I was able to write and read
efficiently. However, my comprehension of what as I read as I got older was not as good as it
could have been. I was able to read books and understand the main points, but often I would forget

My Experience For Speaking English
Ironically, the international school I went was overrun with native–thai speakers. Frequently, I would
unintentionally get into trouble for speaking Thai. It would be phenomenal to speak English and
satisfy the tyrannical hearts of my young farang teachers but the environment was unsupportive.
Everyday during free time I would sit in a corner surrounded by bookshelves and release my inner
English Literature teacher to speak English with the girls as they speak back to me but as soon as
free time is over and class are divided back into genders, my William Shakespeare form was not that
appreciated. The typical reply from a boy would be "why are you speaking in English? This is
Thailand" as they make funny faces and make fun of my big forehead.
Lunch time also known as the golden hour was supposedly be the time of our life. But for me it
wasn't. As a usual elementary school class, genders were a pretty sensitive topic of ours. Girls and
boys together are not socially accepted. During the golden time, I would paddle my little feet to get
my lunch and sit down with the boys. Initially, I would speak English but after a while the rejection

As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest
potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic
requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my
professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for
some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me

Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember
having to read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I could ever sit down and write about it. I was

critically. "A critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;"
(Trimble, 95) In Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical analysis helps a reader understand

It's hard to believe that it's already time for Midterms in my English 101 class. The adventure has
been a lot easier than I at first anticipated. In any case, I am happy that I am taking the class and
learning from it. In the beginning it appeared somewhat hard however I was resolved to compel my
way through this class regardless of what difficulties I needed to persevere.
On the first day of my English 101 class I was apprehensive, I had no clue what's in store from the
class. As I discovered what the class would have been similar to, I let myself know I was going to
attempt to get an B or higher toward the end of the semester and put all the exertion I had into each

Flash Backs Grammar. A confusing concept to my own mind while walking into a new class, yet
an intriguing topic to learn throughout a course. In the beginning of the semester, I worried a lot
about my success in this course because my own grammar, rhetoric, and style of writing needs
work. I knew this class was going to put my prior knowledge to the test, but I was beyond ready
for the challenge. As I continue throughout the course I become more aware of the grammar in
writings and the purpose that grammar serves in order to successfully display the message.
Between a poet's decision to capitalize an improper noun, or an author choosing to use an ellipses
rather than just ending showcases the use of grammar and what it can tell the audience about the

I didn't know what to expect when I started this class. "Advanced College Writing" is a vague title
for a class and could have gone in any number of directions. I certainly didn't expect to improve my
writing by such a high degree. Usually, "advanced" classes are more of a review where the student
uses tools that they already have. In contrast, I have learned more about writing in this class than in
almost any of my other classes. This class has improved my grammar, writing style, and approach to
writing altogether.
I appreciate that this class reviewed basic grammar principles. For the most part, I feel like I have an
above–average grasp on grammar; however, I know that I still have my weak points. In multiple
classes I have been found guilty of fused–sentences. I know that it is a common problem in my
writing. Nevertheless, I was never clear on how to fix the issue. This is the class that has given me
the cure to my grammar–ailment. I have learned that I am often misusing semicolons (or not using
them when I need them). The review on semicolons finally helped me understand their purpose.
With conscious effort, I have much improved my recurring problem of fused sentences. Likewise,
the review on colons helped me truly understand how to use colons. I have been skittish to use

I want to be in Advanced Placement English for four main reasons. A few reasons I want to be in
Advanced Placement English IV have logic behind them, while others are based solely on my
feelings. The principal reason I wish to be in Advanced Placement English IV is my hankering for a
strong education. Advanced Placement English IV is graded on the 5.0 GPA scale, so if I do well in
the class my GPA will increase. Advanced Placement English IV would also prepare me for the AP
English exam, which, if I do well on, will make me more appealing to any college I apply to. This

My Experience In English Writing
English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to

During my first semester in Advanced Composition, I have learned many valuable writing skills.
