E&I Completions Lead
I started in China on a Joint Venture between PetroChina and Chevron on
Chuandongbei Gas Project in Nanba City in Sichuan Province as E&I
Completions Lead. We are a team of 7 people working for Completions
Department. Our responsibilities are to do final walk downs and verifications
of punch items. Verifications of custody transfer dossiers. Assisting with
commissioning of the plant. We also do the final Custody Transfer walk
downs with the client on all disciplines.

November 2008 to October 2014 Worley Parsons Saudi Arabia
E&I Completions Coordinator
Still with SAMREF, my responsibility was to coordinate the loop checks on
the CFP project. I was the link between the sub-contractor and the client and
had to coordinate the flow of loop checks. This included the coordination
between all parties, the report back to my head of department and to the
client. Ensure the right route was followed on the punching of problem loops
and transmitting the loop folders back to get the problem loops rectified. I
also did the transmittals back to the sub-contractor to ensure the signed off
loop folders was transferred back.
Area Coordinator
Still working on the SAMREF clean fuels project I was transferred to the
YANPET site where I had the responsibility for my own assigned facility
working directly for the Area Construction Manager. I participate in
contractibility reviews, development and progressing of construction
schedule, development and implementation of construction procedures and/
or JSA’s, and other construction activities. I was responsible for overseeing
the activities in their assigned area and/or unit to insure the construction
subcontractor’s work was executed with timely completion, safe execution
and the required quality.

E&I Construction Specialist
After completion of the Ma’aden project I was transferred to the SAMREF
Clean Fuels Project in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. I was part of the team that was
responsible to do the changeover of the DCS system. I was responsible for
the day to day surveillance and inspections of construction activities. Duties
included daily review of all inspection reports, review of daily force reports,
verification of quantities installed, approved for the release Worley Parsons
furnished materials to the sub-contractor, initial review of subcontractor
request for information and facilitating coordination meetings. I reported
directly to my Area Construction Manager, John Vanweerd.
E&I Superintendent
After completion of PAP project I was transferred to Material handling in
Ma’aden where I was responsible for the control room and marshaling
cabinets. Cable pulling and terminations. After construction I did all pre
commissioning (loop checks) of conveyor belt instrumentation.
E&I Superintendent
I was transferred back to E&I Superintendent on the Ma’aden project after
completion of the HSE contract and we did the construction at the
Phosphoric Acid Plant (PAP) acting as the client representative. Our team
was also responsible for all pre commissioning (loop checks) on the project.
HSE Superintendent
After completion of SASREF Project I moved over to Ma’aden site as HSE
Superintendent. My main responsibility was to coordinate the main contractor
as we were the client’s representative and assist them on their HSE issues.
Occasionally I did lock out tag out training because of my back ground in E&I.
I reported directly to the HSE Manager.
Construction Superintendent
At SASREF I was responsible for progress of construction and to see that all
work gets done to client’s specification and approval. All work needed to be
carried out on live plant as it was a hot cut over from traditional 4 to 20 mA
Instrumentation to Foundation Field bus.

September 2008 to October 2008 Lumwana Copper Mine Zambia
E&I Commissioning Specialist,
We were 4 experts that was hired by B&W Electrical & Instrumentation to go
to Lumwana copper mine in the north of Zambia to assist with their
commissioning. It was difficult as there were problems with lack of knowledge
of the local people, documentation, vendor assistance (no vendor assistance)
and language barriers. We mostly worked on valves, changing action of
valves, setting up of level transmitters and commissioning of the plant. We
completed the commissioning in 3 weeks.

August 2008 to September 2008 PPC Cement South Africa
E&I Commissioning Specialist
We did the commissioning on Electrical & Instrumentation on the conveyors
and tanks. Checking each loop from the field right through to the DCS in the
control room and checking each electrical circuit. We were hired by the
contractor Kentz South Africa but worked directly with the client.

Lead Instrument Commissioning Specialist (Supervisor)
We were responsible for the commissioning of Refinery in Tengiz,
Kazakhstan. We also manage the construction teams to clear last punch
items that was left over as the majority of the construction team leaders
already left for other projects.

Cause and Effect Supervisor (Commissioning Engineer)
This was the same project as above. T.E.S.T. was demobilized from the
project and we where taken over by Kentz to complete our responsibilities on
the commissioning of this refinery at Tengiz, Kazakhstan.

Dec 2006 to Feb 2007 Senet Guinea
Commissioning Engineer We
where responsible for commissioning of a second hand gold mine in Lero,
Guinea. I was one of ten Instrument personnel that were sent from South
Africa to help with the commissioning of a gold mine. The Machinery was
bought from a plant that closed down and brought over to Guinea. All cables
where laid and we had to ring out the cables to see witch was witch. This job
was done with minimum drawings. We did out own drawings and redline
existing drawings and as built drawings as we carried on with the wiring. We
had to plan all panel layouts cross patching and PLC addresses. Twelve
weeks after we arrived the plant was commissioned successfully with no LTI.

June 2005 to Nov 2006 FA Platform, PetroSA Mossel Bay
Instrument Technician (Maintenance)
Responsible for maintenance and construction work as well as shutdown
supervision on the offshore FA Platform south of Mossel Bay.
July 2004 to May 2005 Skorpion Zinc Namibia
Instrument Technician (Maintenance) Maintenance,
shutdowns and construction work. I mostly worked on night shift on a back to
back basis to perform breakdowns on the Cell house and Cast house. I was
also responsible for small construction jobs in the evening.
February 2004 to June 2004 Consol Glass Bellville
Site Supervisor
I was responsible for E&I installation on conveyor belts and lighting on the
new Cullet plant in Bellville, Cape Town.
April 2003 to November 2003 PetroSA Mossel Bay
Site Supervisor
I was the site supervisor for construction of the of the GTL Project in
Mossel Bay. I worked for B&W Electrical and Instrumentation. The main
Contractor was SA Five Engineering and I worked hand in hand with them
and the client Technip. The project was completed in one year.
February 2003 to March 2003 PetroSA Mossel Bay
Instrument Technician
I worked on the shutdown and had to replace some barriers with
Isolators and do there panel wiring in different satellite buildings. My job was
a great priority and I did it perfectly to PetroSA standards and PetroSA where
very happy about my standard of work. They asked if I could contact B&W
E&I to ask for position to run there GTL project and the job was given to me.
July 2002 to December 2002 FPSO Glass Dowr Cape Town
Fire & Gas Supervisor
I was employed by Brand Engineering to do the installation of fire and gas
detectors on the new compressor area, LPG skid aboard the Glass Dowr
FPSO while it was docked in the Cape Town Harbour. This involved the
cable tray installation, cable pulling and installation of detectors. PetroSA did
the commissioning but I was very much involved in it as well because of my
knowledge about commissioning.
January 1993 to June 2002 Caltex Refinery Cape Town
Instrument Technician (Maintenance contract)
I was part of a maintenance team that was responsible for the maintenance
and up keeping of the Caltex Refinery in Cape Town on the instrumentation
side. This included shutdowns, breakdowns, training, standby and
supervision. I was at the refinery for a long period of time and worked on the
Crude unit, vacuum unit, utilities, and Truck loading racks and specialized in
the boilers unit. I was also involved in new projects but it was for the client
(Caltex).

June 1992 to December 1992 SA Nylon Spinners Bellville
Instrument Technician
I was on the construction team that was responsible for the building of three
new Auto Claves and the Instrumentation involved. The contractor that I
worked for was Argus electrical and instrumentation. I moved to Caltex
refinery with them as well and started on maintenance contract there.
January 1992 to May 1992 Petronet Tarlton
Site Supervisor
I was the site supervisor for a firm called Mod Instrument Management and I
was responsible for the construction (E&I) of storage tanks in Tarlton and
Rustenburg. This mostly involve the Trenching, cable trays, cable pulling.
The installation of level gauges, flow switches, temperature monitoring,
construction of E&I on the truck and train loading racks.
June 1991 to November 1991 Engen Durban
Area Superintendent
I was in charge of a group of people responsible for a new section to be
erected on E&I during the shutdown. This was when Mobil became Engen.
We did construction, loop checks and the commissioning with the client.
October 1990 to April 1991 Mossgas Mossel Bay
Senior Instrument Technician
I had a team of people working on loop checks and I was responsible to do
the hand over of all loops passed to the client and loops that failed had to be
handed back to construction. I also had my own Quick fix team that would
tackle smaller problems like changing out temp probes that did not work etc
etc.
October 1989 to September 1990 Mondi Board Mill Springs
Instrument Technician (Maintenance)
I was on a maintenance team that was responsible for up keeping up and
maintaining instrumentation. We managed different shutdowns on the
machines. We worked 24 hour shifts.
October 1987 to October 1989 Impala Platinum Springs
Acting Instrument Technician (Maintenance)
This firm I did my apprenticeship with. I started my apprenticeship in 1984
and qualified in 1987. I stayed with them until 1990. I was in a team
responsible for doing maintenance and small projects. I also did standby,
mini shutdowns and house keeping.

Our team was also responsible for all pre commissioning (loop checks) on the project. HSE Superintendent After completion of SASREF Project I moved over to Ma’aden site as HSE Superintendent. My main responsibility was to coordinate the main contractor as we were the client’s representative and assist them on their HSE issues. Occasionally I did lock out tag out training because of my back ground in E&I. I reported directly to the HSE Manager. Construction Superintendent At SASREF I was responsible for progress of construction and to see that all work gets done to client’s specification and approval. September 2008 to October 2008 Lumwana Copper Mine Zambia E&I Commissioning Specialist, We were 4 experts that was hired by B&W Electrical & Instrumentation to go to Lumwana copper mine in the north of Zambia to assist with their commissioning. It was difficult as there were problems with lack of knowledge of the local people, documentation, vendor assistance (no vendor assistance) and language barriers. We mostly worked on valves, changing action of valves, setting up of level transmitters and commissioning of the plant. We completed the commissioning in 3 weeks. We also manage the construction teams to clear last punch items that was left over as the majority of the construction team leaders already left for other projects. T.E.S.T. was demobilized from the project and we where taken over by Kentz to complete our responsibilities on the commissioning of this refinery at Tengiz, Kazakhstan. Ref: Rod Quinlan: rkq@comcast.net Dec 2006 to Feb 2007 Senet Guinea Commissioning Engineer We where responsible for commissioning of a second hand gold mine in Lero, Guinea. I was one of ten Instrument personnel that were sent from South Africa to help with the commissioning of a gold mine. The Machinery was bought from a plant that closed down and brought over to Guinea. All cables where laid and we had to ring out the cables to see witch was witch. This job was done with minimum drawings. We did out own drawings and redline existing drawings and as built drawings as we carried on with the wiring. We had to plan all panel layouts cross patching and PLC addresses. Twelve weeks after we arrived the plant was commissioned successfully with no LTI. - 4 -

June 2005 to Nov 2006 FA Platform, PetroSA Mossel Bay Instrument Technician (Maintenance) Responsible for maintenance and construction work as well as shutdown supervision on the offshore FA Platform south of Mossel Bay. July 2004 to May 2005 Skorpion Zinc Namibia Instrument Technician (Maintenance) Maintenance, shutdowns and construction work. I mostly worked on night shift on a back to back basis to perform breakdowns on the Cell house and Cast house. I was also responsible for small construction jobs in the evening. February 2004 to June 2004 Consol Glass Bellville Site Supervisor I was responsible for E&I installation on conveyor belts and lighting on the new Cullet plant in Bellville, Cape Town. April 2003 to November 2003 PetroSA Mossel Bay Site Supervisor I was the site supervisor for construction of the of the GTL Project in Mossel Bay. I worked for B&W Electrical and Instrumentation. The main Contractor was SA Five Engineering and I worked hand in hand with them and the client Technip. The project was completed in one year. February 2003 to March 2003 PetroSA Mossel Bay Instrument Technician I worked on the shutdown and had to replace some barriers with Isolators and do there panel wiring in different satellite buildings. My job was a great priority and I did it perfectly to PetroSA standards and PetroSA where very happy about my standard of work. They asked if I could contact B&W E&I to ask for position to run there GTL project and the job was given to me. July 2002 to December 2002 FPSO Glass Dowr Cape Town Fire & Gas Supervisor I was employed by Brand Engineering to do the installation of fire and gas detectors on the new compressor area, LPG skid aboard the Glass Dowr FPSO while it was docked in the Cape Town Harbour. This involved the cable tray installation, cable pulling and installation of detectors. PetroSA did the commissioning but I was very much involved in it as well because of my knowledge about commissioning. January 1993 to June 2002 Caltex Refinery Cape Town Instrument Technician (Maintenance contract) I was part of a maintenance team that was responsible for the maintenance and up keeping of the Caltex Refinery in Cape Town on the instrumentation side. This included shutdowns, breakdowns, training, standby and supervision. I was at the refinery for a long period of time and worked on the Crude unit, vacuum unit, utilities, and Truck loading racks and specialized in the boilers unit. I was also involved in new projects but it was for the client (Caltex). - 5 -

June 1992 to December 1992 SA Nylon Spinners Bellville Instrument Technician I was on the construction team that was responsible for the building of three new Auto Claves and the Instrumentation involved. The contractor that I worked for was Argus electrical and instrumentation. I moved to Caltex refinery with them as well and started on maintenance contract there. January 1992 to May 1992 Petronet Tarlton Site Supervisor I was the site supervisor for a firm called Mod Instrument Management and I was responsible for the construction (E&I) of storage tanks in Tarlton and Rustenburg. This mostly involve the Trenching, cable trays, cable pulling. The installation of level gauges, flow switches, temperature monitoring, construction of E&I on the truck and train loading racks. June 1991 to November 1991 Engen Durban Area Superintendent I was in charge of a group of people responsible for a new section to be erected on E&I during the shutdown. This was when Mobil became Engen. We did construction, loop checks and the commissioning with the client. October 1990 to April 1991 Mossgas Mossel Bay Senior Instrument Technician I had a team of people working on loop checks and I was responsible to do the hand over of all loops passed to the client and loops that failed had to be handed back to construction. I also had my own Quick fix team that would tackle smaller problems like changing out temp probes that did not work etc etc. October 1989 to September 1990 Mondi Board Mill Springs Instrument Technician (Maintenance) I was on a maintenance team that was responsible for up keeping up and maintaining instrumentation. We managed different shutdowns on the machines. We worked 24 hour shifts. October 1987 to October 1989 Impala Platinum Springs Acting Instrument Technician (Maintenance) This firm I did my apprenticeship with. I started my apprenticeship in 1984 and qualified in 1987. I stayed with them until 1990. I was in a team responsible for doing maintenance and small projects. I also did standby, mini shutdowns and house keeping. . - 6 -
