A2 media evalution. question 4
1. For the construction of my media products I had used a variety of technological
equipment. From Hardware to Software .
Hardware technology we had used a wide range. Most of the
equipment was used to create our music video.
We had used a hand held Camera to shot the video. With this
particular piece of equipment I personally had difficulty, this was
because I had never used one of these before. However before we
actually went and shot our genuine music video we had executed a
camera handling exercise in which we were asked to construct a
chase sequence. This exercise helped me as it enabled me to
understand how the functions of a camera works.
2. To take photos for the other Digi-pack we had uses a digital Sony camera. This
camera was not difficult to use as I have used one in the past . However I had
discovered that there were some functions that I didn’t not know about which later
came handy.
When we had gone for our shoot , we had also take lights with us in case it to dark n
we were unable to continue shooting the video. Myself and another member of my
group had tried very hard to get the lights on when we thought it had become to
dark . However things never go to plan as we had taken our time in opening them a
setting them up to find that there is no need for them.
The main and most important piece of technology that we had used was the
Computer. This allowed us to edit our products, create the Digi-pack. It also helped us
keep updated with our work.
We had also taken extra lights to one of our shoots as we believed that it would be
dark soon and they may be of help. However they didn’t not work on the day.
Fortunately we did not need them as we had completed our shoot just before dusk.
3. The software used in the construction of my media product were three main ones:
Final Cut Pro
Indesign
Photoshop
Until I had constructed a music video the words final cut pro were just three words put together. This software
was completely new to me. I had never heard of it until now. To familiarise us with this software we had to
edit the chase sequence that we had filmed in order to help us learn cameras functions. With this we were
given a guide book which told us what buttons did what function and what transition would fit best in what
place. This software would be the hardest software that I have ever used. But with the help of members in
my group and my teachers I was able too function the programme without any glitches .
With Indesign I believe that I had no problems as I had used this software before in order to complete my
work. I was familiar with the functions that it held and how to use them. In this I had constructed the bases of
my Digi –pack which then allowed me to progress it on to Photoshop.
Photoshop was a problem for me, even though I had used it before its functions were not clear. However this
problem was solved as I had researched on how to use this software. On top of that I had received help
from my friends who were well-known with this software.
4. Research technologies that were used was the internet . As it has various search engines which
would help me to construct my research in order to create my product. It allowed me to get
my work out there for audience feedback, such as on social networks like Facebook , Twitter or
even MySpace. I had also used a site called Wordpress where I had uploaded all my previous
work and research.
Another piece of technology that we had used was our mobile phones. They allowed us to contact
each other when scheduling a shoot or just gathering information from one another.
I had used YouTube, one of the worlds most famous video uploading sites as one the basis of my
research. Here I was able to look at current music videos by comparable artists. This helped me
to understand the codes and conventions of a music video. They also helped me to
understand the different theories by Propp, Todorov and Andrew Goodwin.
