2. Introduction
• CPI Kenya is a peace organization that works with
School Children to promote peace and
reconciliation among the pastoralist communities
in South Rift region and Northern Kenya.
• Officially came into operation in September 2011
3. Target Communities
•Baringo County – Pokot.
•Samburu County – Samburu, Turkana
•Marsabit County - Turkana, Gabra, Rendille, Samburu
and El molo
4. 3 Phase Intervention
• Phase 1.
a. Create opportunity for children to interact.
a. Build friendship for peace sake and level the ground for
their parents to come together for a facilitated
interactions and dialogue.
a. Empower communities to sustain relationships through
interactions and dialogue.
Activities. Community Mobilization and Baseline Survey,
Children Peace Camp, Friendship for Peace Twinning,
Holiday Exchange Peace Program.

8. 3 Phase Intervention Continued
Phase 2 –
•Gives opportunity to parents from two or more target
communities to come together at the invitation of their
children for an informal peace interaction.
•Foundation for friendship, cohesion and co-existence.
•Activities- Children and family twining meetings/ Visits
for Peace.

• Phase 3 –
Education and Campaign. Communicating
peace messages through theatre.
Activity- Peace Concert, Peace Caravan, Peace
Clubs, Teacher Training for Peace Educators
and Commissioning of Friends for Peace.
11. Project Outcome
• Level, frequency and quality of interactions
between target communities increased.
– Children visiting friends during school holidays.
– Herding together (Pokot and Samburu children herding
Pokot cows together)
– Parents visit each other.
– Inter community religious fellowship.
– Shared markets – Livestock, Buy food etc
– Increase in number of children going to schools within
neighboring communities’ area.

– Exchange of gifts including livestock by families.
– Access to social services (Health, Education and Market)
– Access to Pasture and Water.
– Sharing basic commodities like food and clothes.
– Working on each others farms (Casual Labour)

– Children write letters to friends every month.
– Phone communication –sharing early warning
information.
– Emerging issues easily resolved.

• Empowering children to participate directly in
community peace process.
• Use of empathy as a tool for peace building.
• Interactions and exchange as a strategy to
address inter-ethnic peace.
• Use of trans-generational approach.
• Empowering women to actively participate in
peace issues.
