How monitoring should be automated without jeopardizing accuracy. I will present a ready-to-use system that allows system admins to set up their servers to be automagically picked up by Naemon, and also allowing them to tweak their settings without requiring access to the monitoring system. Most notably, without even restarting or reloading the monitoring system. I will also present a working (I hope) demo of dynamic thresholds in Naemon, using various helpers in a request/response system.

By Neil Roberts. Users of mobile platforms are expecting more and more complex graphics on their devices. This means that taking advantage of the mobile GPUs efficiently is essential. A large part of this efficiency is dependent on the user-space drivers. Unfortunately being in user-space means that many GPU providers can get away with only providing a closed-source driver which hides a lot of the secrets needed to be efficient. This talk presents a project providing an open-source alternative including support for embedded platforms. Mesa is the standard open-source user-space library providing an implementation of the OpenGL, GLES and Vulkan APIs on Linux platforms. It has drivers for a range of different hardware. This talk will present the project, the user-space graphics stack and the inner workings of Mesa. It will then continue to present the embedded drivers that it supports such as Freedreno for the Adreno platform, Panfrost for Mali Midgard and Bifrost GPUs and the drivers for Broadcom GPUs. Tremendous recent progress in deep learning and computer vision algorithms has made it possible to create innovative applications that were not previously feasible. However, moving from academic research to real-world algorithm deployment is still complicated due to the amount of native programming and low-level knowledge that is required to unleash the full performance of processing platforms. This talk demonstrates how the Intel OpenVINO toolkit makes it easy to move deep learning algorithms from research to deployment. Gorbachev walks through the most important toolkit features that allow you to create lightweight applications and reach maximum performance on various processing platforms, including traditional CPUs as well as accelerators such as VPUs, GPUs and FPGAs.

Bitcoins were the currency of choice for discerning hackers, because who doesn't love untraceable money?

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system.
