Community Entrance Visits (CEVs) to community leaders in
project locations in Ogun State
• The aim of the CEVs is to intimate the community leaders in the new
project locations added in the LGAs about the objectives of the Project,
with a view to soliciting for their support and commitment towards the
success of the project.
• CEVs have been conducted in all the 20 communities selected for 2018
Demonstration activities in Odeda, Remo-North, Ijebu-East and Yewa
North LGAs.
• In each of the communities visited, the project team was warmly
received by the various community leaders. The Community Leaders,
Chiefs, Opinion leaders, contact farmers and few other farmers.

Community Entrance Visits (CEVs) to community leaders in
project locations in Ogun State
• Project team explained the objectives and scope of the project as
well as what is expected from the leaders, contact farmers and
others, by way of participation, support and commitment.
• The Community Leaders and contact farmers were thereafter
presented with drinks (Bottles of Non-alcoholic wine and soft
drinks).
• The team was careful on each of the occasions to stress the
project objectives and scope, especially when farmers tend to be
over-expectant about assistance beyond project objectives and
scope.
• A total of 207 farmers comprising 134 males and 73 females were
reached during the CEVs.

SIGNING OF LETTERS OF AGREEMENT (LOA) BY FARMERS
After due sensitization and explanation of the project’s
expectations as specified in the Letters of Agreements to
participating farmers and Community leaders, the LOAs
were presented to them for signature.
The majority of the farmers signed the Letters of
Agreement (LOAs) during the joint sensitization meeting
with the farmers and Extension Agents in January 2018,
while the others and those of the Community leaders were
signed during the CEVs.

MID-SEASON EVALUATION OF ON-FARM DEMONSTRATIONS
• Mid-season evaluation of the on-farm
demonstrations were conducted by male and
female farmers on 13 demonstration farms.
• A total of 115 farmers comprising 58 males and
27 females participated in the Mid-season
Evaluation.

FARMERS FIELD DAYS
• Farmers Field Days were conducted on eleven (11) selected
2018 Demo-farms.
• The FFDs were highly participatory and successful.
Participants that responded to questions asked during the
interactive and appraisal sessions were presented with the
project’s souvenir T-Shirts and face Caps.
• A total of 561 farmers comprising 366 males and 195 females
were reached during the FFDs.

STEP-DOWN TRAININGS/TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT)
ON ABC OF CASSAVA WEED MANAGEMENT
• Eight (8) Extension Agents (EAs) were involved in the TOT
exercise, in 4 LGAs (Odeda, Yewa North, Remo North and
Ijebu East).
• Each EA trained male and female farmers on the ABC of
Cassava Weed Managements in 16 communities, totaling 128
communities.
• A total of 2351 farmers, comprising 1531 males and 820
females, benefitted from the Step-down trainings/TOTs in
Ogun State.

ON TAAT
Collaboration with the Communication and Extension Knowledge
Expert @ IITA (Mr. Godwin) on TAAT project in Ogun state, the State
Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Rural Development, as
follows:
• Selection of sites for demonstration of outcomes of the
cassava weed Management Project with TAAT project.
• TAAT launching in Ogun State on October 12, 2018; and
• Training of about 60 EAs and Npower nominated participants
of the 2 ministries on – 6 Steps of Cassava weed
Management, Calibration and Safe Use of Herbicides.

SCALING OUT ACTIVITIES
IN COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL GOVERNMENT
CHAIRPERSONS
• Meetings with the Chairpersons of the 4 LGAs (Odeda, Yewa North,
Remo North, and Ijebu East), to intimate them with the objectives,
outcomes and achievements of CWMP in their respective domains,
in the course of the project period.
• The CWMP and project EAs in the respective LGAs team were well
received by all the LGA Chairpersons. All the Chairpersons
promised to support their respective agricultural departments to
scale-out the project outcomes and CWMP technologies.
• The Chairpersons were presented with the project’s IEC/
educational materials, and the project’s souvenir T-Shirts and face
Caps for the LGA Agricultural Officers.
