World Vegetable Center, ICRAF-The
World Agroforestry Center, IWMI, and
Bioversity International
3. Strategic Objectives
• The Humidtropics strategic objectives are:
– Accelerate household use of innovations and
technologies derived from systems and component
research activities.
– Improve the use of innovations and technologies that
promote a balance between enhancing livelihoods
and sustaining the biological and ecological integrity
of natural resources.
– Increase economic and social returns to households
from agricultural production systems within livelihoods
frameworks.
– Enhance partner and policy support to livelihood
frameworks.
– Increase and assess the value of the CRP for the
poor and vulnerable.
6. Action Areas
To realize tangible synergies between Centers and partners, Humidtropics opts
for a common approach towards R4D in well-defined Action Areas across
Tropical Africa, America, and Asia. This will allow comparison and learning,
resulting in international public goods, but also local specific solutions.
Strategic: The selected Action Areas encompass all these development paths
and a diversity of supportive systems and drivers of change.
Urgent needs: The Action Areas have relatively high population densities
where intensification and rural transformation are urgently needed.
Representativeness: The Action Areas are characterized by a wide diversity of
relevant farming systems, institutional environments, and policy
frameworks. The targeted farming systems have a large scaling-out
potential.
Furthering earlier investments: Interventions to be implemented in
Humidtropics are based on existing expertise of the Centers and their
partners.
