- We all have a different vision about what a Future City is looks like. Key principles future cities increasing urban population, with diminishing resources, we inspire our leaders to create thriving cities and communities – where people can work, live and play with an efficient use of resources and resilient to the impacts of climate change What does this look like – communities with a diversity of cultures and age, where they can live and work and play, the future of our cities is largely in the hands of our city leaders. At June 2013, just under two-thirds of the state's population (4.76 million people) resided in Greater Sydney. - Population of greater syndye Coverage of FCC members Significant influence In addition to the five foundation member cities Parramatta, Liverpool, Blacktown Waverley and Woollahra, we’ve welcomed six additional cities to the Future Cities Program for 2014, with the aim to welcome them as full members of the Collaborative at the completion of the Future Cities Program. Those 11 cities make up over 7% of the 152 local government areas in New South Wales, 21% of the Greater Sydney Metropolitan population, and 16% of the total population of New South Wales. This means that the hard work, dedication, and commitment to improvement that all of our cities demonstrate and share has a meaningful and real impact for a large proportion of people in the Sydney Metropolitan area and the state.

Each city is differnet in its starting place or catalyst for change, but each have the common challenge of leading change in a comples enviroentmn. The cities desire to learn from each other and continue to have on-going independent experstice into therei city development , has led to the formation fo the Future Cities Collaborative.
