The document summarizes the minutes from an Engineering Council general meeting on October 6, 2010. It lists societies currently on suspension and announcements from various officer positions and committees. Key announcements include upcoming events like the Engineering Open House, a town hall meeting from the Dean's Student Advisory Committee, and a leadership conference. The Knights of St. Patrick Award nominations are also due. Several societies, including ASME, the Biodiesel Initiative, and EWB, give funding presentations. A new society, the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers, makes a case for instatement. The meeting concludes with an EXPO co-director election and a reminder about pizza.

61. Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign EC General Meeting October 6, 2010
62. What is SASE Professional society for Asian heritage engineers & engineering students National org. founded in Nov. 2007 17 student chapters across U.S. (UIUC is 15th) 3 core missions: professional development, diversity, community service 40+ members Target membership: all engineering majors & LAS science majors
63. What We Do Prepare Asian heritage scientists & engineers for success in the global business world Network students with industry contacts and professors Celebrate diversity on campuses and in the workplace Provide opportunities for members to make contributions to their local communities Become the ultimate resource on campus for members
64. Our Current Plan 1st year: Establish SASE on U of I campus Professional development series 3 seminars/workshops per semester Topics on resumes, interviewing, winning first impressions, etc. Help members secure an internship/co-op Annual main event: Etiquette dinner (spring 2011) Regular volunteering & social events Collaborate with other Asian student orgs. on unique cultural events for our members
65. Why Join EC Reach out to students in College of Engineering Network with other engineering organizations Get our organization involved in EC activities Contribute to EC as a reputable society by fulfilling EC’s mission statement
Supported by 3 main sponsors: Proctor & Gamble, Dow, General Electric. Chapter count may not be accurate as more are approved every week; since UIUC was approved 2 weeks ago, 2 more chapters were approved. Membership count above is based on active members, not mailing list (we have about 240 on that). Although we target members in engineering and science majors, all U of I majors are welcome.
First year strategy revolves around establishing SASE as a stable organization, with a focus on development a regular tempo of events and professionalism. This is essential for maintaining members and meeting recruitment target of 100 actives by May 2011. Professional development series is provided by ECS and corporate sponsors. Resume workshop occurred in September. Winning first impressions will happen on Oct. 7 (tomorrow) with P&G. We are currently allotted 1 co-op slot and share 10 internship slots with other SASE chapters, given by GE Aviation. Most of our events are in the planning stages, so our lineup is short for fall semester.
If you have questions or want to pass this on to your society’s members, here’s our email.
