FACTS (ACROSS THE GLOBE)
 According to UNESCO, 61 million primary school-age children
were not enrolled in school in 2010.
 58% of children do not complete primary education in India
(because they a ’t afford to lose o e la our fro their fa ily).
 The ASER report also estimates that only 50% of rural children
enrolled in standard five can fluently read a standard two text
book.
 While girls are less likely to begin school, boys are more likely to
repeat grades or drop out altogether.
 53 % of the orld s out-of-school children are girls and
two-thirds of the illiterate people in the world are women.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) has achieved the following in
10 years :
 Girls ad issio i pro ed dra atically. Gender parity is achieved.
 Out of School children number has been brought down significantly (8 million in 2009, 3 million in 2012).
 Big boost to additional schools -195,000 Primary and more than 100,000 Upper Primary schools sanctioned.
 2 million additional teacher posts.
 1.8 million additional classrooms approved. 230,000 drinking water projects approved.
 The scheme supports 200 million children in 1.4 million schools in the country.

IMMEDIATE GOALS
 Reduce dropout rates of children at the elementary
level.
 Develop minimum standards of educational attainment
in elementary schools, to ensure quality education.
 Increase the literacy rate for persons of age 7 years or
more upto 85 percent by 2013–14.
 Reduce the gender gap in literacy to atleast 10
percentage points by 2013-14.
 Reduce child mortality rates in villages.

which provides education on a mobile van while travelling from
village to village.
 Most stress should be laid on Girl Education.
 Provide necessary security for female students so that parents
can let them out without any fear.
 Exposure to computers and computer training at an early
stage.
 Measures to be taken for easy accessibility of books at
minimum costs to all sections of students.
 The focus should be on improving the processes &
streamlining the functioning of departments associated with
education.
 Spread awareness through advertisements.

Appoint an official to supervise the fund transactions for
various government projects so as to minimize corruption.
 Reduce homework at primary level to avoid overburden on
children.
 Provide special classes for physically & mentally disabled

 Proper counseling.
 Spread awareness through media and street plays.
 Recognize talent of children at their tender age and hone it.

FACTORS AFFECTING EDUCATION IN INDIA  Lack of awareness .  Lack of basic teaching facilities like blackboard, chalk, safe drinking water & food etc.  Incompatibility in the perceptions of parents and children.  Unavailability of modern facilities.  Number of schools are less in remote areas.  Corruption.  Poverty among the masses.  Poor quality education in the public schools.  Laws are made but not being implemented. FACTS (ACROSS THE GLOBE)  According to UNESCO, 61 million primary school-age children were not enrolled in school in 2010.  58% of children do not complete primary education in India (because they a ’t afford to lose o e la our fro their fa ily).  The ASER report also estimates that only 50% of rural children enrolled in standard five can fluently read a standard two text book.  While girls are less likely to begin school, boys are more likely to repeat grades or drop out altogether.  53 % of the orld s out-of-school children are girls and two-thirds of the illiterate people in the world are women. The go er e t s flagship program Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) has achieved the following in 10 years :  Girls ad issio i pro ed dra atically. Gender parity is achieved.  Out of School children number has been brought down significantly (8 million in 2009, 3 million in 2012).  Big boost to additional schools -195,000 Primary and more than 100,000 Upper Primary schools sanctioned.  2 million additional teacher posts.  1.8 million additional classrooms approved. 230,000 drinking water projects approved.  The scheme supports 200 million children in 1.4 million schools in the country. IMMEDIATE GOALS  Reduce dropout rates of children at the elementary level.  Develop minimum standards of educational attainment in elementary schools, to ensure quality education.  Increase the literacy rate for persons of age 7 years or more upto 85 percent by 2013–14.  Reduce the gender gap in literacy to atleast 10 percentage points by 2013-14.  Reduce child mortality rates in villages.
