Why Do I Gain Weight


•   If I eat less, and walk more I'll lose weight.

•   Yes, I know that.

•   But why do I gain so easily, so much, so fast?

•   One answer has to do with eating patterns habits that lead to insulin resistance.

•   Insulin metabolizes food into fuel for the body.

•   Blood sugar goes up after eating.

•   Insulin stores excess calories as fat.

•   When blood sugar drops, cells release fatty acids.

•   These fatty acids become available as energy.

•   That is the normal process for getting energy from food.

•   Insulin is the primary regulator of fat, carbohydrate, and protein metabolism.

•   When we eat normally, insulin regulates the way we process fat,
    carbohydrates, and proteins.

•   Insulin metabolizes what we eat, so we have energy.

•   Insulin keeps our bodies in a healthy state.

•   But the insulin mechanism can become defective -- go awry.

•   Body tissues can become unresponsive to insulin.

•   You get a condition called insulin resistance.

•   Genetics, diabetes, and overeating contribute to the condition.

•   When insulin resistance takes hold, a vicious cycle is set in motion.

•   In response to insulin resistance, the pancreas has to secrete ever more insulin.

•   The more insulin the pancreas secretes, the more resistant tissues become.

•   You have the urge to eat more.

•   As tissues become more resistant, more insulin is needed to regulate fat,
    carbohydrates, and protein.

•   As more insulin is secreted, you experience stronger urges for carbohydrates
    and fats.

•   You overeat to satisfy urges. A higher level of insulin is secreted. Your urges
    intensify for sweets and fats.

•   You get into a vicious cycle!

•   A companion theory is called the inflammation theory.

•   It explains what happens when too much fat accumulates in cells.

•   Fat makes cells increase in size.

•   Too much fat can overwhelm the cell's capacity for fat storage.

•   Fat cells need room.

•   If you were a house, you could add closets, finish a basement, add an attic to
    add capacity.

•   But your body can not build on to itself, or rent a storage unit.

•   Instead you gain weight.

•   But according to the theory when you overeat it you fill up the available
    storage space in your body.

•   The demand for fat storage overwhelms your cell's capacity to store fat.

•   Cells overloaded with too much fat, release inflammatory molecules.

•   If you are seriously overweight, or become obese, according to the theory,
    you may acquire a low-grade inflammatory response.

•   Having a low-grade inflammatory condition, due to being seriously overweight,
    puts your health at risk.

•   Inflammatory molecules affect insulin resistance, an unhealthful situation.

•   Being overweight is linked to serious medical conditions.

•   Being overweight carries risks for hypertension, high blood sugar, Type 2
    diabetes, coronary heart disease, and certain cancers.

•   That's why weight management is really about your health.

    weight management.

•   Keep your eyes open. and concentrate your attention.
