Case Description
The food service industry in the Philippines is growing at a phenomenal rate and everyone wants a part
of it. As one of the young entrepreneurs in the world, who made a good reputation in the field of food
service industry, we faced a lot of troubles, and we the company are still expecting a lot to come. Why?
Let me tell you this, every year we the entrepreneurs, business owners tend to face a lot of
inconvenience that usually because of a high continuing rapid change of generations in connection to
the demand of the costumers in terms of their preferences, new trends and affordability. For those
unaware, the food service industry is composed of all forms of food retail. This includes fast-food
chains, food kiosks, cafes, bars, take-out and delivery stores, and full-service restaurants or company
like catering services. The Philippine food service industry, in 2016, generated P535.9 billion in
revenues on the back of 84,503 food outlets operating in the country. This year, revenues are seen to
top P616 billion with 3,126 more food service establishments in operation than there were in 2016. The
food service industry is seen to expand in tandem with the growing population and rising incomes. For
the year 2020 and 2021, revenues are seen to reach P637.3 billion and P656.5, respectively. No surprise,
then, that everyone wants to put up a restaurant, be it fledgling entrepreneurs or established
businessmen looking for a cash flow on the side. To many, the food business seems like an easy way to
make money. It is equally important to understand the trends in the market. Being cognizant of trends
and leveraging on them is like swimming along with the tide, not against it. In many cases, it could spell
the difference between success and failure. That is why HOMA Events and Catering is expecting a lot
of inconvenience as soon as possible to make and formulate a strategic solution to face the problems
interfering to the internal and external management. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the closure
of many businesses and establishments including restaurant and catering services. This has resulted in
the loss of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars to this highly in-demand industry. Although during
the pandemic people tend to prepare and cook foods at home, consumers still crave a variety of dishes
that are normally found in their favorite restaurants. While some have managed to prepare and copy the
recipe of their desired meals, many have failed and give up the tedious process of cooking. As people
decide to stay home and reduce social interactions, food deliveries are becoming popular and are the
best, if not only, option to get the variety of foods that they are craving for. Some restaurants that did
not previously offer food deliveries have started to explore this business opportunity. As you can see,
the delivery services are now on trend not just it is because delivery riders are seen now in every part of
the world, but because it is also the key to our main problem this past 2 years, which COVID-19 is
spreading around the world, and of course as an entrepreneur we will see this as a solution to the main
problem which is the people is not around to make or set an event meant for catering. With regards to
that, HOMA Events and Catering is offering delivery service these past few years and still dominating.
The increasing demand for food delivery has led to higher pricing in some areas, however, it also
contributes to increasing employment, as some businesses have started to recruit new drivers and
delivery staff. It is true that we the business owner in the field of food service, tend to employ delivery
riders and led to higher pricing in some areas to make up this problem but of course we do not see this
as a problem and also maybe to our dearest customers instead we see this as an opportunity because by
this we hired people who badly needs to work and wants an income, it is also our asset to our company
to add delivery riders and staffs that we actually wanted this time of pandemic and the result is amazing.
All of these reflect the scope of opportunities in the catering industry and the potential for different
careers in this field of food service management. Still, HOMA Events and Catering is now on the edge
of accepting and formulating a strategic action to the threats that we actually see as an opportunity to
roar high in the food service industry.
Introduction
HOMA Events and Catering is a company who offers a wide range of cuisine with a diverse menu and
different services, providing an Event designs and decorations. It aims to build an outstanding
reputation and to allure every customer by giving them the special day they deserve. For us to
accomplish the mission and vision of our company, HOMA Events and Catering must be prepared
about the challenges that the company might encounter, such as, high competition in the field, limited
venue information prior to the event, finance, marketing strategies, unexpected scenarios etc. As the
business continue to dominate, different problems and opportunities needs different strategic solutions,
risk management implementation and strategical methods to comply, Business conditions change

HOMA Events & Catering, is a fine catering service company started in 2021 located in Sorsogon City
specializing in creative recipes that integrated variety of dishes from around the world together
with contemporary original dishes. We had been offered to handle numerous events in different parts
of Sorsogon and at the same time accepted food orders from relatives and friends and other City
Government. Since then, through word of mouth advertising, our services grew dramatically; serving a
wide variety of dishes that compliments good quality service. Today, we have catered numerous
occasions, from small gatherings to a grand event of more than 6,000 people. Our Vision is to “Engage
our customers, the people of Sorsogon remarkable quality food experiences offering excellent products
and services to give them memorable life events”.
Our Mission is “providing exceptional services to the Sorsoganons. We aim and wishes to build
outstanding reputation by offering a diverse menu of cuisines, event design and decorations that would
allure every customer giving them the special days they deserve.” Currently, we offer catering services
with banquet settings and pre-packed meals based accordingly on client specifications. Dedication,

Bargaining power of the buyers or customers is the ability to put the firm or a business under
pressure, which in return affects the customer’s sensitivity to price changes. The power of the buyers
or the customers is high or low, depending upon the number of alternatives they have. The ability of
the customers of HOMA Events and Catering is high, which means that the customers or the buyers
have the power to exert cost over price of the service our service is offering. The company need to
offer unique products/service that will attract the customers. It can also introduce loyalty cards for

Blue Ocean Strategy (Value Creation and Value Innovation)
According to the Blue Ocean Strategy principles, companies should not only try to compete in
existing markets (Red Oceans), but also find or create new markets where competition does
not yet exist (Blue Oceans). In these unexplored and untapped markets, there is ample opportunity
for growth that is both profitable and rapid. In addition, competition is irrelevant because the rules of
the game are waiting to be set. Where Red Ocean Strategy is a zero-sum game that is all about splitting
up the pie between rivals, Blue Ocean Strategy is about creating the pie and/or enlarging it. In order to
create this shift in attention from Red Oceans to Blue Oceans the authors came up with a concept
called ‘Value Innovation ‘that allows for a simultaneous pursuit of both differentiation and low-cost.
Our Company decided to learn this kind of strategy specially that nobody knows about our Events and
Catering Services. We gather information through surveys and feasibility research on how people or the
market reacts and used their money on spending especially when special occasions arrived. And then
we take actions and use the Blue Ocean Strategy to execute our main plan which is not to compete but
rather build or innovate a thing (service) that nobody in our field is doing it. Value innovation is a kind
of strategy in which we put the customer, not the competition, at the core of strategy. By this, we
execute the plans that we set on creating and innovating a service that competition does not yet exist.
One example for this, is the affordable coffee stall in collaboration to the famous funeral brands here in
the Philippines, here in Sorsogon we got the St. Peter Life Plan: Chapels and Labalan Funeral Homes.
As we all know, a lot of funerals that we actually seen is they usually served a cup of coffee and biscuit
in a simple way. Rich, average or poor family got this idea on serving a cup of coffee and biscuits in
funeral. And we got this idea that what if HOMA Events and Catering accept, create and innovate the
way which the families of every Filipino is doing since then. That’s when the Coffee Stall and fresh
baked products is made to offer a service that nobody in our field is doing it yet.
Recent Development/ Major Accomplishments
Recently, HOMA Events and Catering received a National award for being one of the Best Events and
Catering Company in the Philippines, the Company received People’s Choice award, Best Caterer
award, Best in Cuisines award, and lastly the Overall award. We are so glad that we accomplished a lot
since we are still adjusting and we’re just starting our business in the field of Food Service Industry.

Strategic Issues/ Organizational Challenges
• One of the strategic issues that we see to our company, first is that, it is hard to
promote our new ideas, plans and innovations since a lot of market, the people, is
now settled to the old catering services as well as the event organizer company. It is
hard to get their trust on us, since a lot of our services is innovated.
• Second, the pandemic, as we all know that the COVID-19 spread throughout the
world and a lot of company and jobs are forced to shut-down. But in our Case
Description we gave a strategic solution for this issue. But it is not enough, since the
income is half compared to the operations wherein the world is still not in this
pandemic crisis.

  • 3. Case Description The food service industry in the Philippines is growing at a phenomenal rate and everyone wants a part of it. As one of the young entrepreneurs in the world, who made a good reputation in the field of food service industry, we faced a lot of troubles, and we the company are still expecting a lot to come. Why? Let me tell you this, every year we the entrepreneurs, business owners tend to face a lot of inconvenience that usually because of a high continuing rapid change of generations in connection to the demand of the costumers in terms of their preferences, new trends and affordability. For those unaware, the food service industry is composed of all forms of food retail. This includes fast-food chains, food kiosks, cafes, bars, take-out and delivery stores, and full-service restaurants or company like catering services. The Philippine food service industry, in 2016, generated P535.9 billion in revenues on the back of 84,503 food outlets operating in the country. This year, revenues are seen to top P616 billion with 3,126 more food service establishments in operation than there were in 2016. The food service industry is seen to expand in tandem with the growing population and rising incomes. For the year 2020 and 2021, revenues are seen to reach P637.3 billion and P656.5, respectively. No surprise, then, that everyone wants to put up a restaurant, be it fledgling entrepreneurs or established businessmen looking for a cash flow on the side. To many, the food business seems like an easy way to make money. It is equally important to understand the trends in the market. Being cognizant of trends and leveraging on them is like swimming along with the tide, not against it. In many cases, it could spell the difference between success and failure. That is why HOMA Events and Catering is expecting a lot of inconvenience as soon as possible to make and formulate a strategic solution to face the problems interfering to the internal and external management. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the closure of many businesses and establishments including restaurant and catering services. This has resulted in the loss of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars to this highly in-demand industry. Although during the pandemic people tend to prepare and cook foods at home, consumers still crave a variety of dishes that are normally found in their favorite restaurants. While some have managed to prepare and copy the recipe of their desired meals, many have failed and give up the tedious process of cooking. As people decide to stay home and reduce social interactions, food deliveries are becoming popular and are the best, if not only, option to get the variety of foods that they are craving for. Some restaurants that did not previously offer food deliveries have started to explore this business opportunity. As you can see, the delivery services are now on trend not just it is because delivery riders are seen now in every part of the world, but because it is also the key to our main problem this past 2 years, which COVID-19 is spreading around the world, and of course as an entrepreneur we will see this as a solution to the main problem which is the people is not around to make or set an event meant for catering. With regards to that, HOMA Events and Catering is offering delivery service these past few years and still dominating. The increasing demand for food delivery has led to higher pricing in some areas, however, it also contributes to increasing employment, as some businesses have started to recruit new drivers and delivery staff. It is true that we the business owner in the field of food service, tend to employ delivery riders and led to higher pricing in some areas to make up this problem but of course we do not see this as a problem and also maybe to our dearest customers instead we see this as an opportunity because by this we hired people who badly needs to work and wants an income, it is also our asset to our company

All of these reflect the scope of opportunities in the catering industry and the potential for different careers in this field of food service management. Still, HOMA Events and Catering is now on the edge of accepting and formulating a strategic action to the threats that we actually see as an opportunity to roar high in the food service industry. Introduction HOMA Events and Catering is a company who offers a wide range of cuisine with a diverse menu and different services, providing an Event designs and decorations. It aims to build an outstanding reputation and to allure every customer by giving them the special day they deserve. In these unexplored and untapped markets, there is ample opportunity for growth that is both profitable and rapid. In addition, competition is irrelevant because the rules of the game are waiting to be set. Where Red Ocean Strategy is a zero-sum game that is all about splitting up the pie between rivals, Blue Ocean Strategy is about creating the pie and/or enlarging it. In order to create this shift in attention from Red Oceans to Blue Oceans the authors came up with a concept called ‘Value Innovation ‘that allows for a simultaneous pursuit of both differentiation and low-cost. Our Company decided to learn this kind of strategy specially that nobody knows about our Events and Catering Services. We gather information through surveys and feasibility research on how people or the market reacts and used their money on spending especially when special occasions arrived. Strategic Issues/ Organizational Challenges • One of the strategic issues that we see to our company, first is that, it is hard to promote our new ideas, plans and innovations since a lot of market, the people, is now settled to the old catering services as well as the event organizer company. It is hard to get their trust on us, since a lot of our services is innovated. • Second, the pandemic, as we all know that the COVID-19 spread throughout the world and a lot of company and jobs are forced to shut-down. But in our Case Description we gave a strategic solution for this issue. But it is not enough, since the income is half compared to the operations wherein the world is still not in this pandemic crisis.
