2. Kerala Adventure Tourism Adventure Tourism is a type of tourism involving exploration or travel to remote areas, where the traveller should expect the unexpected. Adventure tourism is rapidly growing in popularity as tourists seek unusual holidays, different from the typical beach vacation. Adventure tourism typically involves travelling into remote and inaccessible terrain and performing acts that require significant effort and grit and involves perhaps some degree of risk.

3. Adventure travel in Kerala Adventure travel is a type of tourism, involving exploration or travel to remote, exotic and possibly hostile areas. Adventure tourism is rapidly growing in popularity, as tourists seek different kinds of vacations. According to the U.S. based Adventure Travel Trade Association, adventure travel may be any tourist activity, including two of the following three components: a physical activity, a cultural exchange or interaction and engagement with nature. Adventure levels can be based on the personal perception of risk and the type of travel which is perceived to be adventurous; and this will be inherent to the traveller.

In order to ensure safety of participants in such activities, there is a need to lay down the minimum acceptable standards in terms of equipment and human resources. As a first step, the Basic Minimum Standards are recommended for those activities which have the greatest volumes in terms of participation.
