● Employers have a step to step process of how they hire their employees
in consideration if they fit the profile and are able to manage the job.
● Things employers search for on social media accounts are: inappropriate
language, involvement of illegal activities, slander of past employers, and
many more.
● If employers don’t see anything out of the ordinary, their next step is to
set up a meeting with the desirable employee.

● First Impression: first consideration or judgment
● First Impressions last a lifetime because they’re always going to
remember the first time they met you.
● Everyone only gets one first impression, and no one wants it to be on
Social Media.

● Employers can decipher whether or not they will hire you based on your
appearance on social media.
● Before setting a date for the meeting the employer would have already
finished the social media background.
● When getting hired in the Medical field it is very important that you are a
person with an open book life.

● Provides Health Care Professionals with tools to share information
● Can be used to promote healthy behaviors
● Provides education and interacts with patients, caregivers, etc…
● Can be used to communicate directly with patients to augment clinical
care
● More than 90 pages on Facebook are related to Pharmacy Professions
(Ventola, 2014).

● The evolution of social media has produced a multitude of medically
focused professional communities that have been established and are
often private and protected from nonmembers (Ventola, 2014).
Some of the sites include:
● Sermo (Physician-Only)
● Doximity (Physician-Only)
● The Medical Directors Forum (Peer-to-Peer Interaction)
● QuantiaMD, Doctors’ Hangout, and Doc2Doc (Ventola, 2014).

● Keep political biases off your professional page
● Refrain from putting religious biases on your
professional page
● Restrict content to professional information only
● Make sure the information you post is accurate
● Be sure to maintain a professional appearance

● Social media can build relationships with people
● It can allow for you to stay connected with the world
● You can also share your experience with the world too
● You will gain followers on a social level
● Gives you a way to express how you feel and get feedback too
● Gives people a chance to see who you are and what you stand for

● Too much time on social media can lose sight of the job
● Your image as a good person of the job can be distorted
● Negative opinions can begin to form about the work you do
● You can also experience harassment from only viewers
● Account could be hacked and things could be posted not from you

● Have a balanced career that allows you to have fun using social media
● Allows for a chance to make the best of what you have
● Gives the constructive criticism of what needs to be bettered
● Changes the mentality that nothing is wrong or can be fixed

● Can either make or break your career as a whole

11. The Dangers Personal Media has on Your Career
When it comes to your personal life, Social Media plays a huge factor.
Social Media makes life a lot more interesting, but at the same time it is
ruining lives. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. More people are posting
everything they do on these Social Media sites. Because of that people
tend to not get their dream jobs or the jobs they went to college for.
Social Media also plays a major role in Government jobs like Doctors, the
FBI, Police Officers, etc. An example would be if a Doctor performed
surgery on a patient. After, the patient looks up his/her Doctor on
Facebook only to find out the Doctor posts themself getting blackout
drunk every weekend. How do you think the patient would feel? Not safe
at all.

When you are young you don’t think about what you post. Every child typically
gets a lecture from their parents when they first get into the social media life.
The reason we get lectured is because social media can ruin lives and our
parents know that.

Examples of dangers Social Media could have on professional life would be
● Social Media can cause you to lose your job
● Shows personal feelings that not everyone in the world should be able to
see
● Affects how you use proper language in your Professional life
● Can take time from your office work (meaning turning in or having
confusion)
● Can cause lack of sleep

14. The Dangers Personal Media has on Your Career
Social Media can cause social anxiety. With Social Anxiety playing a huge role
in your daily activities. Social Anxiety can cause you to not show up to work
because you are so stressed at what life throws at you. Social Anxiety can put
you in a negative place to where you do not want to talk to anyone or worry
about the smallest things in everyday life.
